mgm: I tend to agree with you that this blood thing will go away one day. I think that the main reason for it will be because of litigation brought against the society, perhaps by those European countries that have been led to believe that it is up to the individual whether or not he takes blood.

Blood Fraction
by claudia inok i need help here, i want to know how i can justify taking blood fractions, from stored and collected blood?
how do i answer my relatives, the people who are the most wonderful people in the world even though they are roman catholic, they are not trying to persecute me, they love me, so i dont even want to go the persecution route.also where is the biblical support for fractions.
i feel it is selfish to take from bloodbanks, but not give in return, and on top of that hear badmouthing of bloodbanks.

Precisely when in 1914 did the GT end???
by JCole ini have been asking this question since studying the babylon the great book back in the '60s.
maybe i'm thickskulled, but simply restating that it ended in october or tishri doesn't explain away my reasons for asking the question.
i'm only looking for answers about the date in 1914, and i'm not looking for the typical apostate replies that the year is wrong.. i question october/tishri being the end of the gentile times, and thus the start of jesus' reign, for the following reasons:.

Dear JCole: I think perhaps that I was not clear in my response to you and for that I apologize. Let me try again. There is nothing wrong or improper with your question as I understand it. The elders are simply mature men who having been 'in the truth' for many years are (or at least should be) very familiar with our publications, doctrines, procedures, and the reasoning behind what we believe. All that knowledge comes from the publications. They are not privy to any 'special' or 'additional' knowledge about any of these things. They can only go by 'what has been written'. All of the information in the Society's publications come from the GB's writing staff. They decide how this and that applies and no one else. Elders are not allowed to go beyond what the society's publications say on the matter.
Formulate your question and send it by letter to the Society. If they do not respond then tell your C.O. about the letter (showing him a copy of it would be nice too.)
Ask him what he thinks about it. He can give you further directions. There will be no committee involved in this.

Thank you, Martini for those gracious words. I would like to express my gratitude as well to all here so far that have shared in our discussions for the fine way in which they have conducted themsleves. It's so pleasant to be with reasonable people. Thank you all.

What's Sacred, what's not?
by Frenchy inlet's put forth a question here that should provoke some interesting responses.
please feel free to give your thoughts on the matter inasmuch as that is the purpose of these boards.
we (jehovah's witnesses) do not accept blood transfusions on the principle that 'blood is sacred'.

Thank you for your repsonse, Catyf. You stated in your post: "A lot of people here are misrendering the new stance the society has taken. THEY ARE NOT SAYING USE OF BLOOD IS OKAY OR FINE OR WE SUPPORT IT. They are saying we can't do anything about it and they are absolutely correct. " I don't believe I have misread the stance or the directions. Having served as an elder for a number of years I am quite familiar with what happens when someone takes blood. The Society is not now saying nor has it ever said that it could not do anything about taking blood. When it becomes known that a witness has accepted a blood transfusion, a judicial committee is convoked and unless repentance is demonstrated by the 'offender' then disfellowshipping can indeed occur. The society STILL prohibits transfusions. This is not a conscience matter. You and I do not have a choice. The blood fractions, however, is another matter entirely. The society says that this is a matter for you to decide on. My question on this topic is: Why are certain parts of the blood still sacred and other parts are not? Why are some components a matter of conscience and others not? What is the Scriptural basis for this?
Thank you again for taking the time to respond. Please do so again.

Caliban, yes, that sounds vaguely familiar (it's been a long time since I've read SF) Who was that character? One of Asimov's robot characters?

To answer your question about possible infection from blood fractions, the short answer is yes, it's possible but very improbable. Of course the probability of contracting an infectious disease from whole blood is pretty slim also. BUT IT STILL EXISTS, nonetheless. There is also a possibility of your dying on the operating table when they are taking out your gall bladder or your tonsils, or anything else. On those occassions we balance out the risk against the benefits.
Sad to say, many witnesses are now thoroughly confused about the whole matter and really don't know what they are allowed to do and not to do.

Thank you, Claudia. I'm afraid that I don't know Pink Floyd. I'm sure I'm from a different generation than you ladies. I grew up on country music (George Jones, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, etc) How about citing us some of your favorite lyrics? I would love to see them.

Difficult moment in service
by Drew ini was out in service last week and a gentleman (mid 40s, i'd say) asked me about 1975. i answered that it was overzealous brothers, etc... he was very insistent with me and i ended up telling him that i would get back to him after speaking to an elder for further clarification.
have you guys ever encountered that?
i heard about a similar situation once but i am wondering what the best way to handle it is.

Drew: If you truly believe in helping other people come to know the truth, then you will not diguise it. You will make no excuses for anything that is not the truth. One of the strongest points for the authenticity of the Bible is its Candor. Any attempt at veiling or disguising the truth is itself a lie, is it not? Always be truthful. God does not lie and neither should we.
You sound like a very sincere person. I know that you are having difficulty with this. Believe me when I say that a forthright reply (no double talk) to the question (any question!) is always the best policy.
"...and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Caudia, I think that all of us who 'grew up in the truth' got 'nugdged' for baptism. It appears that of late, we are getting younger and younger baptismal candidates. My advice to you would be to wait until you are certain. Be firm about it, after all it's your life. Your parents should respect that you are mature enough to take this very seriously and you may want to reason with them along those lines.
