Favorite Stones song???
by bluesbreaker59 inok, because flipper brought up the beatles, i have to bring up the "anti- beatles".
i always preferred the rougher, raw edge of the stones, and the more guitar driven sound with a swaggering, swinging beat.. i'll go with tumbling dice, keith here was at the peak of his addictions and still came up with one of the coolest riffs.
anything from the micktaylor era is fabulous in my opinion, but sticky fingers and exile on main street are my favorite albums..

Who is the Lord of lords?
by Antredd inin order to understand who the lord of lords is, some groundwork on god being one needs to be established as biblical truth.
if the bible in deuteronomy says that god is one, and that hes the lord of lords, then would it make sense to say if there were two lord of lords, then one of them would have a lord that he wasnt the lord over?.
if the two lord of lords were equal, then they both would have a lord which doesnt make sense and contradicts the bible about god-jehovah being just one lord of lords.

Welcome to the board, Antredd. Looks like you have some catching up to do. Stick around and read awhile. You will eventually find the answers you seek.

hindered prayers says my wife...so I stopped
by oompa ini really have never understood prayers too well or how they are answered or not.
i really think it is more of a self-help type excercise.
aren't there some really funny experiences in the yearbooks on prayers answered!?

I know there is some scripture about perfunctory prayer. And I think the scripture says that type of prayer is not acceptable. To me that means any type of prayer when you make a show for others or when the prayer is given as a duty, obligation, or ritual. Any prayer that is routine and superficial would not be acceptable. I wish I knew the scriptures to uphold that, but I bet you can find them, oompa.
I would quote her the scripture that Jesus said when he gave instruction on how to pray. He said not to make a show of it and to go into your closet to pray. And then, I would take my plate from the table and tell her I'll pray somewhere else in private where its more acceptable to God. Then, I take my dinner and watch TV in the other room and let her eat by herself for awhile.
If she has any sense she should be praying for her loss of good company and companionship!

A CALL TO ACTION: HIGH PRIORITY
by Wingman inhi everyone,.
a letter has been prepared by anonymous brothers to be sent to bodies of elders around the world.. of course this is a massive undertaking and we are asking for assistance from active and inactive ones around the world who share the sentiments of the letters contents.. your participation in this action indicates your sincere desire to see change within the organization that has become authoritarian in recent years.. we ask that the letter be addressed to "the body of elders" in each respective congregation.. please do not add any further information or commentary.. we are also relying on non-english speaking brothers to translate and distribute this letter.. it will not matter if more than one letter is received by each congregation.

I have an idea. Why not "write in" the (congregation of name, town) or a name of elder in that congregation.....and send letters to the little people, too. That's right. Send some of these letters to congregation members. Maybe they will think it is a piece of misdirected mail. In the meantime, it is so nicely and professionally worded, that of course they will read it. Maybe it will even get through to some. Of course, you know they will discuss it with their friends. Get them involved in doing the work of questioning the elders about it! Ha! How are the elders going to not answer to it and be called to account now??!! Why put all of the power into the hands of the few elite. Give the people back their power!!!

Seems to me they all just memorize the same few scriptures and use that to cover every argument. It is certainly not from a well rounded Bible reading. Just my 2cents.
Source:: Interview with Crime Time (a British-based magazine about mystery, crime and detective fiction), 06 August 2001
URL: http://www.crimetime.co.uk/interviews/mickeyspillane.htmlQ. You were raised a Catholic, right?
Spillane: No I wasn't raised either one (Catholic or Protestant). I'm one of the Jehovahs Witnesses.
Q. You joined in the fifties?
Spillane: You don't join that, you have to be a witness. Witnessing is an active word.
Q. The word apocalyptic keeps coming up in criticism of your work. Do you believe in the second coming?
Spillane: The word coming is a misnomer. The word used is parousia in Greek, and it means 'presence'. Take President Clinton. Do you know him? No. But you feel his presence, all the taxes he lays on you. We feel his presence because we have to live under his direction. So when these things were asked of Jesus they asked 'what will be the sign of your presence, and the end of the system of things...now that was translated in the King James Bible as the end of the world. Now the word 'world' and the word 'earth' are two different things...the Bible says the earth abides forever. It's the simplicity of it, religion has turned everything inside out! Someone says how'd you like to be able to live forever? You say, oh boy would I liketa live forever, there's so many things I'd like to do, I used to be able to pass a football with either hand, now I can't throw from here to the wall...there's so many things...I think the best time for me was around 35... but if you're not a wise guy you can put up with those things...I know too many guys my age, they walk around, like they're crippled. I try to stay in good physical shape, I don't smoke, I don't drink...I'll have a beer once in a while. People say,' you have a beer, you're a Jehovah's Witness...but the Bible doesn't proclaim against drinking, it proclaims against drunkenness...anyway, someone says how'd you like to live forever...we know what death is, you can kick a dead dog, it won't bite you...but Jesus makes the greatest remark I think it's so funny nobody pays any attention, he says 'this means everlasting life', and they say what, 'you gotta stand on your head, you gotta pay knowledge, what', and he says it's taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and that's so easy...I get so excited about this, I'll keep talking to you like this if you don't say that's enough, but this is why people think you're a nut, they say, don't people turn you down, I say 'they don't turn me down, they turn God down'. That's why people can't stop drinking, do drugs, that's why the world's the way it is...do you know a stable country in the world?
Other source:
The guy who brought broads and blood to the reading masses is a Jehovah's Witness, a fundamentalist [group] that preaches the imminent end of the world.
"There's nothing phony about them. Everything they say is true," says Spillane, a one-time "nominal" Protestant converted years ago by a Jehovah's Witness who knocked on his door.

Venus and Serena Williams
Williams sisters are Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs), and JWs are not supposed to sing anthems, pledge allegiance to the flag, or have a nationalistic bone in their bodies. The Olympics are considered by the Watchtower Society (the JW's equivalent of the Pope) to be a nationalistic event, and therefore to be avoided. Carrying the flag is considered to be an act of idolatry. Singing the anthem, or giving a standing ovation, for that matter, is tantamount to offering prayer to another god. This isn't just a minor thing like the Catholic "prohibition" against eating meat on Fridays. It is a very big deal.
Personally, I don't care if either of the Williams sisters carry the flag, yodel out the anthem, or receive stars-and-stripes enemas. There are, however, numerous repurcussions bouncing about amongst the JW and ex-JW communities. This tempest in a tennis court is similar to the Michael Jackson Thriller scandal of the 1980s. Once upon a time, Michael Jackson was considered a JW in good standing. Then he started a solo career. JW children everywhere were clamouring for Michael posters and trendy but oh-so-tacky leather jackets.
At public assemblies of JWs, elders (JW priests) gave cautionary lectures on why we shouldn't give adulation to lowly people, but only to God. "After all," they said, "we don't have posters of our elders hanging on our bedroom walls, do we? So why should we have posters of some other JW, or even worse, a worldly person (JW-speak for a non-JW)?"
