It has always been around. Maybe the reason you don't recognize it is :

1) because you don't have it; or

2) because you don't realize you are being controlled by someone who DOES have it.

In their rituals, all secret societies have a "marking" system. These secret societies are based on "doing favors" and "carrying out obligations" for others of higher rank. These favors and obligations start small, but begin to entrench the person into the cult. Later, these actions are used to blackmail and thus control the participant.

People who have gotton involved with these secret societies are virtually ignorant of what they are doing in the beginning. The meetings and ceremonies are steeped in such ritual as to be unintelligible. They stay in perhaps out of fascination or thinking they will understand it later. Much like the way a JW keeps waiting for concrete answers to questions.

The Masons (males) guard the West gate. The Eastern Star (females) guard the East gate. They pledge allegiances to the "Most Worshipful Master". Among their ranks they have "wardens" and "overseers" and "mark masters".

There are many many numerous secret societies...some involve children as well. All of these societies are interconnected and have been for centuries.

Religious leaders, politicians, even the small local businessman may be members. This beast will cause all "both great and small" to take its mark. And what is a beast, but not a living vessel to carry burdens? Once you are obligated to do favors which may be unethical, illegal, even worse...your life becomes a burden; the obligations and threats become a burden.

The Master Mark Mason does apply a mark in the hand. I imagine this is true of all of those interconnected cults.

Just as all good JWs carry their blood cards, the Mormons must carry their "temple cards". That is, if they can get one.

Seems to me, all of these things are "MARKINGS".

Mormons who wish to participate in any of the temple rituals must first request an interview with the bishop of their local ward (that is, the pastor of their local Mormon congregation), who will examine them individually as to their religious beliefs, their loyalty to the church leaders, their abstinence from forbidden things (alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea), their sexual morality, and the extent of their financial contributions to the church. If the bishop determines from this examination that they are sufficiently worthy, he will issue them a "recommend," that is, a pass to the temple, valid for two years. (Until 2002 the recommend was valid for only one year.) The member must then take the recommend to the stake president (the church officer who oversees several local wards), who will conduct a similar interview before countersigning the recommend. Many Mormons always carry their recommend, which is the size of a credit card, in their purse or wallet.

i have seen lots of encouragement for us to 'unite' and accomplish something that would set back the wt society, but in such a diverse group as we are, it seems that even though we are together, we are alone.. has anyone thought of the possibility of 'semi' organizing a date certain for a bunch to abandon the organization?

If the trigger event wasn't the handling of pedofiles in the orginization what would be classified as a "trigger event"? There's loads of stuff that should be considered trigger event that doesn't actually trigger anything. They used to be called Servants (congregation servant, Watchtower Servant, Literature Servant, etc.) I think sometime in the 70's they became known as overseers. And you're right about the slaves....I've often thought this same thing.

Feeling sorry for the old time witnesses...wishing it were the "truth".

it's really pretty sad.

i think of my parents, my aunt, and a lot of the old timers that have been in this thing for so long, and i can't help but feel sorry for them.

i mean, how devastating it would/will it be to find out they have been duped all along.

Bear in mind that many of the wts followers, and especially from the old days may be somewhat lacking in formal education.

I have heard of many elderly who had to work on the family farm as children and maybe only have 6th grade education.

This is why the magazines originally appealed to those types of people. It was written on a 6th grade reading level.

Many people have trouble reading the King James Bible because the language is archaic.

Many people looked to the clergy for leadership. That is the way our system is laid out and handed down. It's tradition.

Various clergy have fraudently taken their seats as "Bible authorities" and each religion seems to have it's own spin on things.

Some people are being taught that they will sprout wings and fly out of here soon. The rest of the people on earth who do not think like they do will be "left behind" to suffer great torture. Too bad.

All religions are promoting great delusions.

Even people who are university educated attend various churches. Is it because they really believe? Is it for networking purposes to increase business? Are they just book educated and stupid when it comes to reasoning? I don't know. I suppose there are many answers to that question.

Also, bear in mind that these older witnesses were more along the order of "students" searching for answers. The organization is not the same today. Older people are sometimes "stuck in a time warp". They don't readily accept change and may not even realize the new changes for what they are.
