Body Modification/older societies/similar to WBTS view of women
by restrangled ini have just read the book, "snow flower and the secret fan" along with watching part of the national geographic series "taboo".
sadly, most of the modification involves distortion of the female body which then inturn, affects the minds for generations.. most of the justification for the body modification was to keep women in line mentally.
generation after generation of mothers were taught that neck lengthening, breast flatening, foot binding, and female circumsizing kept the girls clean and free from attracting men and kept them "down" in their societies.. i am not suggesting the wbts society approved of these physical methods, but the mental ramifications were adhered to and the result is the same.. women are considered second class citizens in this patriarchal society.

It's a matter of the basic, general attitude - a lot of things makes sense if you get a good birdseye view of things. In a way it's almost like little kids, don't touch girls because they have couties - well okay we like touching them, but we want to be in charge.. Some kind of fear of really being engaged I guess, in spite of all the hot monkey sex people are having.

By the way, it also explains why this view is so retarded when it comes to "fleshly desires" and so forth. When you've been in denial over a part of your NATURE for so long, no wonder you have all this conflicting angst. So I guess the basic idea is that women are more in touch with their physical nature, but men felt threatened by it so they devised this scheme to dumb down their natural instincts - turning it into a power dynamic rather than appreciating the difference and forming a greater potential based on the two.

I don't know if those practices have any religious implications, but one thing that made a lot of sense to me is this idea that making God/the divine somewhere else (deus absconditus?) and declaring earthly/fleshly things bad is the basic strategy of this patriarchal power dynamic. Rather than spirituality as something natural to you, we have this idea of some kind of intrinsic badness/problemhood - and of course these guys have the solution because they have access to that in the somewhere else, you just gotta follow what they say.

Awake magazine - Statements Made Minimize Children's Feelings
by flipper ini recieved the august 2007 awake from a man i anti witnessed to about child molestation.
couldn't help but see a disturbing paragraph about acknowledging children's feelings.
it went , i quote: .

Yes you said it, they are disconnected from real life and emotions, and therefore there is no connection between the two either.
Anyway, since when is acknowledging someone's feelings condoning anything? There are two different words because they are two different things - the feeling exists, it's a FACT. Condoning is actually neither here nor there, because it comes from an authoritarian perspective like this is okay and that is not okay, I'm the parent so what I go says.
The essence of this is basically in direct contradiction to the idea of 'let the children come to me' and 'whoever wants to enter into the kingdom of the heavens must be like a young child.' They are destroying that innocence early, by disregarding children's experience in favor of programming with ones they consider acceptable.

If Your Spouse Told The Elders On U, Is That a Marital or Religious Problem
by minimus inif a faithful devout jw saw her husband on a board like this or reading "apostate" literature, if she was so disturbed by her husband's actions and the husband justified himself, would you think that if she told the elders because she was truly concerned that her mate was going to leave "the truth" and ultimately not make it into the "new system", --------that this was simply a marital issue-----not a religious one?.
your opinions please..

Of course, you can hardly have the existence of a Witness if they didn't compartmentalize things in terms of this or that kind of issue, even if the beliefs reaches into everything. The simple fact of the matter is there is much more world than there is JW world, so they have to kind of build some kind of walls to keep it out.
The opposite view would be there is NOTHING that can tarnish the holy, whether you're talking about God or love or whatever - but of course people are too caught up in their own trip to even consider that.
I can imagine that in a very unlikely alternate reality, the JWs actually hold these beliefs but there is actual love permeating it all. Clearly they would be much more tolerant if nothing else, but more importantly the beliefs wouldn't be nearly as important - it would be like the color of your car.

And I would just add that for those who stayed together, perhaps the spiritual bond is in the marriage and not the religion, interesting isn't it?

THat's just the thing, it depends on your perspective, where you're coming from. Viewing it from strictly one perspective is narrow and will probably not work very well, although there is the question of which has more pull - apparently there has been a few cases where the marriage was so strong that it pulled the other out.
If we want to dig a little deeper it kind of shows how shallow/deep the relationship may be in the first place, and membership in the same religion with reasonably attractive personal features is just not a good or very deep bond. Of course we've heard of the three cord thingy, the problem is people think religion is the same as a spiritual bond. Has anyone in the organization ever pointed this out? Or is it a matter of taking care of the "desires incidental to youth"? No? Maybe they don't even know what spirituality is in the first place.
