  I'm not sure what we will end up doing but I do appreciate your encouraging words. My husband is struggling right now with so many stresses. He is an elder our older son is also an elder and both are hurting. Our family is under so much stress it is all we can do to just go to the meetings but my husband must also give parts at the meetings etc.

  Whatever we do we will likely help our younger children to remain in the Organization until they reach an age where they can make their own choices. This to us seems to be the most balanced at this time. My husband is probably going to step down but remain for a while longer.

  This should not be, but it is what it is and we are devastated over it.

  I still declare my love for Jehovah and his son and the brothers and sisters in my faith!

  I read and reread your post. It makes sense in my head but my heart is screaming at me. A heart that has loved feeling "safe" is not one which easily rushes to unknown places. But if we leave I know that's what we will have to do and your post will be upper most in my mind.

  in the spring of 1980, i was re-investigating my beliefs as a jehovah's witness and this led me to discussions with some people who had done a bit of research on the new world translation.

  one of the questions that was disturbing me was the apparent ease the new testament writers quoted old testament passages about jehovah and applied them to christ.

  i knew i couldn't get away with that at the kingdom hall, but why did paul, peter and other disciples do this?

  Thank you for the links.

  I agree that until, and if, manuscript evidence should surface that provides proof the Tetragrammaton was used in the Greek Scriptures they should be left as they are. Jesus was called Immanuel for a reason though not in my opinion because he was God himself.

  If you're an atheist I presume that's because you believe that to be the truth of our existence. Wouldn't you explain to your child what you yourself believe to be true? And in doing so wouldn't you then be influencing your child?

  I'm a little lost here. Do you have references I can look up on this? Links or books?

  My husband has Brenton's LXX English translation and we would appreciate any other references you can provide.

  Thank you for the advice. Panic does not even come close to what we are feeling. It's somewhere between the Titanic sinking and permanently Lost in Space. We don't want to leave our faith, but it seems our religious home is cracking and the first thing we've decided to do is investigate what is out there.

  Is it really possible for parents to in some degree not indoctrinate their children? Don't atheist parents influence their children to be atheists? Don't Catholic parents do the same? It is natural for parents to train their children as they believe. My husband and I believe that Jesus taught the worship of Jehovah not himself. We believe Jesus taught us to love our neighbor not to kill him in wars. Because we believe these teachings are good we try to instill them in our children. "Ophelia" is a young adult she will one day be on her own and free to make her own choices just as her older brother is but for now we are charged with the responsibility to do what we feel is best for our minor children.

  I've read the thread on the child abuse cd most on that thread had some really good things to say about Barbara Anderson, her integrity and so on. I wondered if she had found a place to go to. If some other person's name had come up here as someone who had left and who was someone to be trusted I would have asked them instead.

  I have no hidden agenda.

  Do you really believe we can take our children to the local Baptist or Lutheran church and find association that will encourage our young son to continue in his belief of no trinity? Or no political involvement?

  Maybe I'm stupid but to me for the most part we are who we associate with at least until we get to stand on our own feet. I'm not here to argue and to those who have tried to give contructive advice I am indebted.

  Some here are a little judgemental and a bit paranoid. "Ophelia" is my daughter, the other person I have no idea who that is.

  Someone objected to my use of the word "ilk" it means kind, Jim Penton is a former Jehovah's Witness who has written books against my faith, he is a "kind" of former Jehovah's Witness one who remains a believer and non trinitarian. Others wondered why I used Barbara Anderson's name in the title, she too is someone who has left, from what I understand has written a book and I've been told she remains a Christian. Does it really seem that strange that I would seek out her advice?

  My point? Where are those of us who may in any way be considering leaving our faith and who have young children find religious association?

  There is no way my husband and I will leave without a place to go to, a place where our children can find friends who are non-trinitarians. Yes, non-trinitarian. Is that a crime here, to want to give our children a Christian upbringing within a non-trinitarian faith? The Unitarians are splintered and have joined the Universalists. If we were Jews I hardly think that anyone would advise us to go to a Christian church for religious association, as Jehovah's Witnesses we are not that far from the Jewish perspective of one God.

  My husband is depressed and considering stepping down. We are merely asking for some advice, a stepping stone that will enable us to give our children some religious stability.

  I have obviously come to the wrong place.

  Hello Barbara,

  I commend your effort to correct the Watchtower Society. God knows they need it!

  Are you still a non-trinitarian? I believe Jim Penton (as well some others of his ilk who have chosen to leave the Watchtower) remains so.

  Do you believe an xJW couple who remains non-trinitarian can, on their own, give their children sufficient Christian association apart from a formal religion? If not, what religious association do you suggest? Can xJW non-trinitarian teens keep spiritually alive though friendless?

  If you believe so please answer this sincere request for help. How do I supply my 14 year old son with religious non-trinitarian association apart from the Watchtower? There are no kids in our neighborhood who are interested in religion no less in non-trinitarian religion.

  I would like to encourage my son to remain a non-trinitarian Christian, a Christian who does not get involved in wars and politics, a Christian who follows the Christ. If he were 25 that would not be a problem he could stand on his own but at 14 he needs friends and he needs spiritual fellowship.

  There is a dichotomy here that has not been addressed, how to keep our children in the non-trinitarian faith without friends and association outside of family. I hope you have some common sense advice for us.
