New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures
by Quendi ini know this has been discussed before, but i want to reopen the topic.
i am currently reading ray franz's memoir crisis of conscience and ran across this footnote with respect to the new world translation of the holy scriptures:.
"the new world translation bears no translator's name and is presented as the anonymous work of the "new world translation committee.

entirelypossible andj jefft are dead on....wt smashes other bibles that have changed or added text to make it say what they wanted...these are called spurious verses. rev 22:17,18 i believe makes clear you can not add nor subtract a single word of that scroll...the name jehovah appears 12 times in the bood of rev...but that is ok because appendix 1:d says we have restored the name when the greek is quoting a scripture from the hebrew (old testament) scriptures....but that is not true in a single case of the name jehovah in the uber important book of rev.....just check the cross references to the old testament...WT REMOVED the words kyrios and theos (lord and god)....and replaced them with YHWH (actually jehovah in english)...without ANY textual, historical, or biblical support....they are very deceiptful about having done this and do NOT like to be questioned about it!!!
also just look for quotation marks around the verses anywhere the name jehovah appears in their Greek scriptures (new testament)...there are dozens of places they have "restored" the name where there are no quotes from the hebrew scriptures using Jehovah....and even if there was, a translator still does not have the right to CHANGE a word in Greek to make it be what they want it to be just because they want it to say what they want...so there is no way the NAME has actually been "restored"
i know how to build a house...i know how to restore a house...you can not restore a house that has not been built................oompa

How is it that well educated and financially stable people become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by 21stcenturywoman inwhen i was growing up most of the jws around me were poor and lower middle class.
some were middle class, but very few were upper middle class.
only (maybe) about 1% were college educated.

Do Active Witnesses Find Meetings Exciting?
by Band on the Run inkh meetings were utter hell.
the boredom, particularly for a child, was awful.
i feel it was a form of child abuse.

OMG this hits home...the hours i spent in bathrooms, library, convention corridors, and often just sitting in my car reading the paper.....i can think of a LOT of adjectives to describe the meetings....exciting was NEVER one of them....after i quit attending i would intentionally ask my wife what she had learned when attending....that got old fast because even if there was new light she, like most, would somehow miss it...most people here know way more about current wt teachings than the flock....and this site is way closer to exciting than any meeting i ever went to...........................oompa
the elders even counseld me for doing so much research in the library during the meeting....saying it was "disturbing" some of the congo....i laughed and said my memory was so bad that if i did not get up to look something up i would forget it later...so stayed in the library all i wanted...that really pissed them off

by Broken Promises inif, and i'm saying, if, the pics of osama were released, would you want to look at them?.
do you think you could stomach the sight of a man with a bullet through the eye?.
or would it be worth it just to prove once and for all that the terrorist king is dead?.

yes in many ways...but it could be way worse...i could have been a woman born in any number of hardcore islamic countries....they did not really have a choice either....i mean jw rules are endless and ya you can get cut off and shunned.....but some of those countries cut off body parts, stone people to death, and treat animals far better than the women there.....so sad.........................................................................oompa
