I have a fingers in the ears spouse too, I feel your pain...
im just learning tatt so I'm zealous about it, especially this week with the Australian royal commission but he won't even read a newspaper article about it, it is maddening isn't it?
having said that I had a bit of an epiphany this week, he became very depressed to the point of not functioning because I'd managed to get some stuff through to him that I think caused C.D. He had an awful childhood and a very early adult difficult life and I think he feels Jehovah/the org saved him. I'm honestly not sure he could cope mentally with awakening.
So I've decided to back off, agree to disagree and focus on positive non jw aspects of our marriage, kids, eating out together, movies, sex etc... Try to be a good wifey, the only time that will be difficult is when we clash on parenting, but I hope to be the voice of reason&balance for the kids when it comes to higher education, extracurricular activities and 'worldly' friends, we'll see how that goes?!?!?!

Well written, scathing article that summarises first 3 days of RC hearing.
by Pants of Righteousness inthere's been quite a number newspaper articles quoted over the past week, but i would recommend this as a good summary of the first three days of the royal commission hearing in australia - complete with some scathing commentary.. apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but have not seen this posted previously.. https://www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/law-crime/2015/08/01/royal-commission-examines-jehovah-witnesses-cover/14383512002194.
just one thing that is not quite right is that the article refers to joe bello as a narrogin elder.
the assualts took place while the victim was part of the narrogin congregation.

I'm not sure why this thread got so argumentative so quickly, didn't see much to offend in the op....
anyway, by the way WTs lawyer was conversing with the chair at the end of Friday's session whilst questioning Monica applewhite, it appeared they are ready to make some concessions, speaking of their policies evolving etc..
I wonder if they will allow a mature sister to support the victim, allow testimony by recording or letter to work in line with what has been brought out about protecting the victim, and appease the state a little . But I can't see them changing the 2 witness rule because it is so fundamental to their judicial process.

This mandatory reporting business is driving me crazy, so much emphasis on if you have to report by law or not.
where's the common sense? Where's the humanity? What kind of state would society be in if nobody ever reported a crime unless they were required by law to do so?
People shouldn't have to be forced to report a person who is clearly a danger to children!!! Nobody should be looking for an excuse to allow a child abuser to go unchecked and unpunished by the authorities which btw 'were placed in their relative positions by God".
shame on any elder who's ever avoided his moral obligation to report such a monster, shame on wt society for actively discouraging elders from doing so.

Stewart (or whoever his researchers are) should write a book about JWs, I'm amazed at how they have been able to cut through the 'spin'.
For example, the way they pulled apart the claims that elders are 'fellow workers' and 'servants', equal to the r&f, the investigators showed:
they are shepherds, not sheep, so they arent equal, they lead
they are claimed to be appointed by Holy Spirit (they had 40 references for this) which statement clearly places them above the publishers as 'closer to god'
they 'take the lead', so they are leaders then?
ultimately they have the authority to form jcs, impose sanctions and decide the spiritual future of the members.
so of course there is no hierarchy is there, everyone is equal? Lol

JW EXPERT WITNESS FLOORED BY COMMISSION OF INQUIRY LAWYER
by steve2 inmuch has already been written about dr monica applewhite, the expert witness hired by the jw organization.
her job was to provide "expert" testimony to the australian commission of inquiry into jehovsh's witnesses' policies and practices on child sexual abuse.
astonishingly, dr applewhite was unprepared for the inquiry lawyers' questions.

I agree with cha.ching, they are looking for a great quote, even now they could say 'an expert witness said we were better than any other religion in our proactive publishing of literature warning against child abuse' or some such, I will be looking out for it on JW broadcasting.
they know they control the r&f so strongly that they will just lap it up and won't research who this expert is or the context...
The only hope is that when the reports conclusion comes (which has to be damning right?) the worlds media makes enough of it to make it headline news which JWs can't ignore and that maybe UK charities commission follows suit and so on...
