hi people,.
i want as much data as possible on the effect of the internet on the time captured by the cult.. please answer the three following questions about yourself or about someone you know (for example, if your parents or grandparents were jw's and left).
1) were you raised as a jw, or did you convert?.

so what scriptures do you think will never make the cut?i will start off with one to warm you all up.. 1 corinthians 4:6 - do not go beyond the things that are written,.
From in search of Christian freedom quoted from the Jerusalem bible, ref the GB:
"Is it that you have everything you wantโthat you are rich already, in possession of your kingdom, with us left outside? . . . Here we are, fools for the sake of Christ, while you are the learned men in Christ; we have no power, but you are influential; you are celebrities, we are nobodies." 1 Cor 4:8-10
i mean this with all due respect, i would like to hear from genuine people who think jw have it wrong and then what is the truth?.
im not talking about silly little quibbles here and there.. is jehovah real?
the the bible is word?
I'd like to believe God is the way Jesus revealed him to be, loving, compassionate, merciful. So I'm choosing basic Christianity, if it's true then the wheat and the weeds are everywhere, I certainly met a few weeds among the witnesses. We can only do our best as individuals.
If in reality God is like the witnesses say he is; jealous, vengeful, insisting on only worship based on a difficult to find 'accurate' knowledge, if he would kill sincere although misled people for getting it 'wrong', well then he's not very pleasant, and I'd rather not worship him but instead take my chances with the 99.9%.
Its like I'm a parent, imagine I ask my kids to look after something precious to me, but the instructions I leave are confusing and difficult to follow, then they get damaged so you can't even read them properly. I come back to find they've tried their best, are very sincere and wanted to look after the precious thing, but they've got it all wrong because the instructions were a mess. Would I be angry with them? Would I have a right to be angry? As a loving parent, wouldn't I be pleased they did their best, made an effort, had good intentions? Wouldn't I be sorry I didn't make things clearer?
This world's religions & beliefs are a quagmire of confusion, I wouldn't be surprised if all the scriptures are corrupted. As a humanist, atheist, agnostic or theist, the best chance any of us have is to show love, tolerance, kindness and mercy, be thankful for our blessings and hope if there is a god he's a decent guy too.
just a little disclaimer: english isn't my first language (i'm from france) thus the poor writing skills.here is the situation: i'm not a jw.
however, i'm in the process of becoming one.
in fact, i'm studying with the jw's, and i'll proceed to become an unbaptized publisher as soon as i finish the first book.to make a long story short i was introduced to the truth when i was 18een.
just read on sky news that pistorius' charge has been changed to murder by the appeals court, on the basis that: .
"pistorius must have foreseen that firing into the toilet would likely have killed whoever was inside - but he went ahead anyway".
quite right too imo, he should go back to prison now.

Quite right too IMO, he should go back to prison now. Chances are he knew what he was doing but even you believe his account and he did think it was an intruder, whoever it was in that toilet stood no chance. Anyone in that circumstance who really thought they were in danger, would a) look for or speak to their girlfriend in the other side of the bed first b) run out of the door instead of towards the 'danger'.
it's easy to get down and disheartened about depressing world events.. it's important to remember that the good guys outnumber the bad guys, they just don't make the headlines as often.. so here's a nice story:.
on sunday, 11-year-old tontrevion campbell went to church with his mom.. at the same time, police say, burglars entered his home and broke one of the commandments.. as the memphis police department describes it on its facebook page: "the thief or thieves stole several of his mom's items, but they also stole the young man's xbox game system and every single game that this 11-year-old owned.".
there are quite a few adults who'd be upset.
What a lovely story, thanks Simon. An act of human kindness, there's lots of those that don't hear about, I agree the good guys outweigh the bad. Look at how people responded in Paris the other week, helping eachother, showing solidarity.
If was god I'd look down and be proud that the majority are decent, compassionate people, I wouldn't be looking for reasons to kill 99.9% of them.

Great thread!
Deut 18:20-22 : If any prophet presumptuously speaks a word in my name that I did not command him to speak or speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. 21 However, you may say in your heart: โHow will we know that Jehovah has not spoken the word?โ 22 When the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word is not fulfilled or does not come true, then Jehovah did not speak that word. The prophet spoke it presumptuously. You should not fear him.โ
i've quickly read through watchtower's submission to the royal commission.
seems like they aren't planning to change policy anytime soon.
they are critical of how the royal commission handled the situation.. the tone is of the submission is shear arrogance.
at the beginning of the may broadcast stephen lett said this was a historic broadcast.
he explained that every member of the governing body had hosted a show and they were starting over again.
that was all the explanation he gave.
