I always remembered that after the memorial, one or two of the elders would usually take home the wine and finish it off. They never gave a rat's ass about the bread. I'm sure if the bread contained alcohol, they'd polish that off too. And wasn't it funny how some people would always go out and party after the memorial. Woohoo!! We celebrated Jesus' death.....now let's all head to the lounge at Las Margaritas and have a few Coronas.

The Emblems
by Nosferatu inone thing that used to really boggle my mind were the emblems at the memorial.
i thought it would be much more sacred than going out to the grocery store and buying a box of passover crackers sitting right next to the vegetable thins.. i wondered why the wts never baked the crackers and brewed the wine themselves, instead of letting a worldly company do it for them.
worldly companies are dishonest, and there could be additives and all that other good stuff in the emblems.

Neonmadman stated:
To listen to JW's, field service is the cure for everything. Discouraged? Get out in service more. Depressed? Get out in service more. Family problems? Health problems? Job problems? Doubts about the organization? More field service will cure anything!
Your friend thinks that, whatever it is that's keeping you from "doing more," getting you out in service will be a step toward solving the problem. After all, your real problem, in their eyes, is low spirituality - measured, of course, by the fact that you aren't spending enough time in field service. Besides, until you get active again and start doing what you "should be" doing, you really aren't good enough association for those social activities you mentioned.
Great religion, huh?
I think you hit this one dead on!!!! Can't say it better myself. That pretty much sums it up as to what JW's think is the cure-all for everything. Service is kinda like duct tape. There ain't nothing it can't fix!!!!!!

Farkel......
I only had one RV. We always did everyone else's in the car group. I usually would say either I already did mine, or I would just do the one. Since we maybe did 3 or 4 RV's all morning (because break took up a lot of time) having only 1 RV was never a problem. And besides, everyone else's RV's were always ones they had hung onto forever. I never remember anyone having a "new" call to go on.

I can definitely vouch for what Blondie said. In the two years prior to leaving the borg, I NEVER did any door to door. It was always RV's. And I never drove, so it was always left up to whoever's car we were in as to what we did. I worked with elders and ministerial servants, and they never did door to door. It was always.....do a couple of RV's....then take a half hour break (this could be coffee and doughnuts or a full breakfast at Denny's)....do one more RV..then back to the hall to be dropped off. This was the same scenerio time after time. Nobody does door to door anymore.....except for maybe a few diehard pioneers during the week.

It is now 2003.... Where is Armageddon?
by Nosferatu ini find it extremely amusing how each year is passing without armageddon.
"for the year 2000, i visualize a world transformed into a beautiful paradise!
but i don't think that either the present world or its rulers will live to see that day.. we are living in the last days of the system of things.

I actually went and looked up this quote in the '86 Awake. What's even more interesting is what is quoted 2 paragraphs further. It says:
A close examination of Bible prophecies showed these young Witnesses that we are now living in a privileged period of history for the time has come for God to intervene in human affairs and rid the entire earth of unrighteousness. The Scriptures call this short period preceding God's intervention "the time of the end" and specify that it will not last longer than a "generation". Since the "generation" of 1914 is now well advanced in years, God's promise is really up-to-date news for young people today.
Seems to me quite a few generations have come and gone since 1914......oh wait, they changed that doctrine in '95. Silly me!!! Well, I guess this isn't "up-to-date news", now is it????

JW lawsuit on CNN!!!
by VeniceIT incnn's readerboard tonight said something to this effect.
"4 women sue jw's claiming they were molested by a nv leader, and that the church covered it up".
also mentioned.

"Our church policy protects children, not molesters," Brown said. "Molesters are punished, generally the most severe way, which is disfellowship or public reproof."
Public reproof is a severe punishment for child abuse?? Give me a f***ing break! Gee, maybe I should go rob some banks, or maybe work for Enron as an accountant, because I'll only be reproved. Does he realize how stupidly asinine this comment sounds. Is somebody who's not a JW gonna feel that dfing or reproving someone for molestation is a severe punishment? Try and tell that to the parents of the abused. What a joke! Gee, if a child's abuser is publicly reproved, I'm sure the parents will feel justice has been served. If JR Brown was a public spokesperson for a REAL corporation, he would've been fired a long time ago!!

Oral Sex
by Yerusalyim inthat always gets your attention, huh.
ok, i'm watching the "o'reilly factor", they just aired the case of two hs students who engaged in oral sex on a bus in silverlakes maryland while several other students cheered them on and the bus driver did nothing.
the principal of the school system didn't inform the school board until after the local newspaper broke the story and he refuses to say how the students will be punished.

Note...the only thing that will change the Society's policy regarding abuse is some sort of monetary penalty. When the Society has to start paying millions of dollars for abuse victims as well as their attornies' fees, then believe me, policies will change. Until then, quotes such as those made by JR Brown will continue to be made and their policy will continue to remain the same. It's as cut and dry as that! No corporation, whether it's the WTBTS or Microsoft will change their policy on something unless it hits them in their pocketbook. The day the Society ever changes their policy on anything because of having compassion for the R&F, is the day I return to the KH!

Officially Disassociated Tonight
by Princess insteve and i attended our very last meeting this evening.
i wrote a thread a few weeks ago about our elder visit and their decision to announce that we were disassociated.
they agreed to wait until we returned from our vacation so i could tell my grandma who still attends via phone link and so she wouldn't have to be alone in her devastation.

WOW! Those pictures really are PRICELESS! And I did notice all the empty seats. Must be the flu going around..... I'm sorry we won't make it to your party, but hopefully in the future we can. It cracks me up that they feel they have to make an announcement to everyone to inform them you're no longer a JW......like anybody with half a brain can't figure that out on their own. All it's doing is giving everyone an official excuse to shun you. (like they didn't do that already) So why even bother? It's such a load of crap!! The longer I'm out, the more ridiculous everything becomes. Well, guess I'm gonna have to start shunning you...... Have a fun party!!!!
