why do so many "non witness " jws not bother to find out the "truth"

my siblings who have left (3/7 last count) have no desire to talk about or hear about much less read about what the deal is witht the org our parents decided would bring them everlasting life.

it is head shaking to me - and i try not to bring it up at all- but when they ask, or it comes up and they are all freaked out about me being interested in it all i just shake my head.

even friends i grew up with in the org have no desire to know - they are just not interested.

When my sister was out, she helped me get out. But when my brother would criticize (sp) the JWs she would always take up for them. She ended up going back in.

I know people who have come out and when I ask them if they are interested in meeting with others who have left or been DF or abused or whatever, they look at me like I am crazy.

I talked to a pro counselor one time and she surmized it might be they are still running from bad memories. But I think they just don't want to think about how wrong they were.

But in my experience, if you don't study your history, you might repeat it. I know there are people here who no longer believe in God, but when I read the Bible, I get continual support for leaving the borg with their way of twisting Scriptures and taking them out of context.

weird coincidence.

right after the sept km which happened to mention how bad it is to learn hebrew or greek to check the accuracy of the nwt, i heard a radio ad i have never heard before.

I studied Hebrew for a short time until I realized the teacher had an agenda of her own. I will get back to it I hope with a more reliable teacher. But when I mentioned my interest to my JW relative, the question was asked, "Why would you want to do that?"

Of course, they don't want you knowing any real Hebrew. You might actually no more than the idiots who "translated" their NWT. You wouldn't have to know much to surpass them. A good strong's concordance will do it.

When I took General Psychology and Critical Thinking in college I learned that this type of thing is how the society keeps the rank and file pumped and working.

It's called Mass Behavior Modification. Sure opened my eyes. The teacher in Gen Psych. was talking about how these "campaigns" are used in factories or businesses and sales meetings to get and people enthused and slaving. This huge light went on in my head. What a moment. It was another reason why they witnesses "shouldn't" get a higher education.

How A Group Can Close a Diner

i can remember when i was a witless, we would go to a particular diner frequently.

this place closed at 10:00 pm, so obviously they did not like having 40 or 50 of us coming after the circus meeting.

that was what they did, week after week, showing up at precisely 9:50 pm.

I used to work at a restaurant and the local pentacostals were just as bad. We had one young man finally interested in the Bible and then they came in, let their children run amuk, were rude and ignorant, stayed way too long, left a HUGE mess and no tip. He wasn't interested after that, saying that if that's how Christians behaved, he didn't want to be one.

I think a lot of people who have never worked in restaurants need a wake-up call there.

My mom raised us on tips and taught us that if we can't be considerate and can't afford to tip, we don't need to go out.

I am finally reading Crisis of Conscience and Awakening...

i finally obtained these books from a friend.

they won't make any difference about how i feel about the religion now because i already know what i know and have so for at least seven years.

i started reading the first chapter or so of c of c and was horrified about what went on in the beginning of the religion and how young people were told not to marry, etc.

boy, i sure did.

forties suits with handpainted ties.

fifties/sixties sharkskin "rat pack" suits with the skinniest ties i could get away with, etc.,

I noticed in some KHs the dress was different. I was a member of a predominantly black KH for a while. Their singing and dress was so much better, so different. The dress was so stylish and the singing was SO alive. I really enjoyed that.

Then I moved to hicksville with a bunch of corn fed hicks from the sticks and the clothes they wore were pathetic. And the singing was like funeral dirges. Ick. I hated it. They were so narrow minded and unfriendly that it probably hastened my departure, so I guess I should really be thankful.

I ran into a JW at the store right after I was thrown out for disagreeing with their supremacy.

I said hi to the lady and she looked insulted and said, "You are not allowed to speak to me."

I told her, "I am free in Christ. I can speak to anyone I want."

She literally RAN from me. WOW.

Sinning Against the Holy Spirit

Of course the elders decide who has sinned and who is forgiven.

They make fun of Catholics all the time for confessing to the priest and asking forgiveness, but they expect the rank and file to go to the elders and do the same thing. Why can't people see this?

I heard it was announced at the assembly (Follow the Christ) that talking to apostates is "grieving the holy spirit". Does anyone know if this is true? And how do you grieve something that is only a breath or a force?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I don't capitalize holy spirit since they don't really believe in the Holy Spirit since we as individuals are not able to get help from the Holy Spirit to understand Scripture like is promised in the Bible, but must (supposedly - yeah right) rely on the faithless slave for that help. NOT!

I too read part way through Crisis of Conscience and had to put it down years ago.

I finished it this year! But what is this book "Awakening"?

I read another book besides C of C when I was first coming out that was very helpful. My sister loaned it to me and then went back in and would never loan it to me again, or even tell me what it was.

Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be Awakening? Is Awakening that old?
