  Why do you think that some are more "controlled" by the WBTS than others?

  i used to think that maybe it was just the people who were raised in the truth, especially from infancy.

  they didn't know what life outside of the organization was so it was all they had to cling to.

  but that's obviously wrong because many, many have left--happily--never to return.

  Are these people just weak minded? Do they lack inherent ability to make their own decisions and depend on others to rule them (sheep)? Is there some other psychological issue there that makes them more likely for total commitment than others?

  I suspect that prior abuse has something to do with it. Some are born into a culture of abuse and don't even realize that another way of life is possible.

  If a person is taught by life experience that some human higher than themselves is always right, that to voice different thoughts is sure to be punished, that to act on one's own initiative means emotional and physical torture, then yes, such people will be much more easily controlled by WT policies if they should become JW's.

  They're not weak-minded, not at all, nor do they lack inate abilities. They just haven't come up (yet) with a way to escape their current situation. It takes time and exposure to another life course before an abused person can make a successful transition to a more fulfilling way of life.

  has anybody seen the ads on the discovery health channel for the show autism times 6?

  they have 6 children and apparently all 6 of the children have autism.

  i was doing some reading about this family.. its very sad.

  As long as the process doesn't involve "misuse" of blood or require cells from a non-marriage partner, I imagine it would be a "matter of conscience"!

  If the parent(s) of the cloned "child" are baptized, would the clone automatically be a JW?

  I'll go for Door #4: "the opinion you hold with respect to political questions":

  I don't think voting does a bit of good. I think it's something of a placebo; it allows people to think they have a voice, an effect, when, in fact, they have nothing of the kind.

  Remember the old story about the householder refusing the magazines because he just knew the publisher was getting rich peddling them door to door? I heard it back when the magazines were going for $.05. Even after a thorough explanation of the expenses incurred by the publisher in bringing the magazines to the public, the householder's logic was that all those nickels add up, so the publisher must be getting rich!

  Carry that "logic" over to the matter of voting: Do all those votes really add up to a force that sways governmental affairs?

  I think not, therefore I have no interest in participating in that aspect of the political system.

  keeping a straight face during the song is hard enough given the wacky lyrical content; the last thing i need is the "new sister" standing right behind me and loudly delivering a breathy, lispy, over-dramatic rendition of "stay asleep stand firm grow culty".

  simon cowell is not listening in.

  or how about that one guy every hall has who bawls the songs out, painfully out of tune, way louder than anyone else.

  Some folks at the hall stand out because they want to appear more whole-hearted in their singing than others are.

  And some folks at the hall just give it the best they have, "Good" or "Bad". "Whole-souled *as to Jehovah* and not to men"....remember?
