1.) A pink house. 2.) A black dog. 3.) A baby brother.
1. We moved next door to a pink house.
2. My grandmother's neighbor had a black dog and I was allowed to pet it.
3. My brother was born when I was seven.

You might be surprised... I saw a homeless couple sitting in a bus shelter yesterday, and the man was reading an Awake! magazine. When the bus pulled up I thought the guy would throw the magazine away or leave it behind, but he didn't. He marked his place and took the magazine on the bus with them.
Heck, I even read some of the articles if I see a clean magazine on a bus bench or somewhere. It's not about believing what you read, at least not with me. It's more about having something to do while waiting around, and seeing what other people believe. It's food for thought.

Am I mistaken or are these stupid mistakes on watchtower.org?
by WontLeave inam i the only one who notices a couple of problems with this?.
first of all, passover is on 15 nisan, not 14.. the sheep should prove to be sound, a male, a year old, for you.
you may pick from the young rams or from the goats.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that WT calculates their dates from a different starting point that is common? (Something about when the sun sets or rises over Jerusalem.)
What's the difference anyway? If you do things the Witness way it doesn't matter, and if you don't, it still doesn't matter!
They're not stupid, they're Watchtower!

Found Sheep: The pages on this forum are numbered. They start at 1. The current page is 10,000. Years ago, when I started reading this forum, the current page was somewhere around page 250. You can click on Page 1 and work your way through if you want to, and I did. I thought back to all the posters who have long since left the forum, and about the ones who are still here, about the newer posters, how people seem to flock in and flock back out, and how the board has evolved since 'way back then.
My question is: where did you (any "you", any poster who cares to respond) come in (start reading the forum)? Note that I didn't ask when a poster joined, only when a person started reading here.
It's been an interesting journey for me, from thinking that demons would jump out of the monitor if I typed "Jehovah" into a browser, to distrusting everything I read, to being afraid to post, being afraid of "getting caught"....through the years until now, when I wonder why I was ever afraid in the first place!
Sometimes it's good to go back and reflect.

DRY BEGGING....
by Snoozy ini just learned about this yesterday..i was amazed!.
i have a grown daughter that is a expert at this... .
dry begging:to ask for in an indirect and roundabout way.
-
AnneB
Before y'all are too hard on your kids, consider this: Indirectness is the language of subservience. It means the person is in a lower place than the one they are addressing.
Think of Kings and their subjects: could the servant walk up and take a piece of the king's chocolate cake? Could the servant even *ask* for some of the cake? Nope! But...if the king was in a good mood the servant might be able to comment on how good the cake looked and, if the king thought of it, he might offer some of the cake to the servant....and no one stepped out of their role!
Kids don't think they have the "right" to ask, in many cases. Even when they do, they remember all the times they've been refused. They aren't sure of what rules apply and in most families, rules are applied haphazardly anyhow, so kids are never sure where they stand or what they can do. They're "lower". They know it. They do their best to get what they want/need while minimizing the risk of refusal.
Whatever happened to the days when a person could compliment without being accused of indirect manipulation? Is praise disappearing from the world?

Wife wants me to read Secret of Family Happiness, any suggestions?
by insearchoftruth inhello, have been on this board for a few years, and now my wife is asking me to read the subject book with her.
.
it seems pretty 'vanilla' in my scan through it, seems to lift up the male headship issue a few times and of course the cure to all ill is to 'attend christian meetings'.. am still working to fully open her eyes, anything in here i can use that may help, any conflicts with current doctrine i could possibly point out??.

AnneB
Ask her why the H she's directing you in what to do when the book teaches that the wife should be submissive to the husband so that he "may be won without a word"!!!
Remind her that it's what *you* want that matters to Jehovah, not what she wants.
If she wants to play the WT game let her pay the price.

How can I convince my parents to vote?
by Sharpie inhey, first off i didn't know where to post either here or in the poltics section?
but anyways, for the canadians on this board you all know there is the federal ellection in one month.
now i do remember there are a number of articals that say, or rather don't say its not allowed to vote.
-
AnneB
If your parents don't vote it may not be just because they are Jehovah's Witnesses. Lots of non-witnesses don't vote.
Sometimes people view governments the same as they do corporations, and in that case they reason that voting for something they're not a part of just doesn't make sense.
As far as voting within the JW congregation, JW's are a part of that group so voting makes sense. As the article quoted above states, there's no harm in the act of voting, it's when and where that have to be considered.
