Wow, this bit of info surprised even me!!!
by LeKook ini just spoke to a witness friend (has been a witness 25+ years), who said that the elders in her congregation told her that witnesses had better be prepared to begin going door to door, not to announce "good news", but to denounce people who refuse to accept "the trvth".
has anyone else heard about this?
i thought it was a joke at first, but she said no, that's where the elders told her things were headed.

onacruise - Craig Mills 1952-2011
by Lady Lee ini was given the link to a bit of information regarding on old poster/moderator of this forum.
i was not sure of the validity of the information so have been trying to find out if it is true.. earlier today craig's estranged wife, kate, (bikerchic) confirmed that craig died at his home on aug 10, 2011.. i am sure that many people here remember craig's time here and how he went out of his way to offer support to posters, even calling them, to give whatever help he could as they adjusted to their post-jw lives.. i know many people here will grieve his loss.. --------------.
ps i tried posting this earlier but the computer i was working with would not allow the posts.

If they really are expecting the end so soon...
by WTWizard inyou hear the witlesses harping on how great tribulation is coming.
there are signs even in the world that major bedlam is soon to break out.. so then, how many witlesses did you know that have plans to make such tribulation a bit more endurable?
you know, things like gold and silver in case their currency becomes worthless.

During my time as a JW were were told (via Awake! articles, mostly) not to stockpile anytihng (except maybe a couple of extra cans of coffee, no joke!) because people would just carry it off anyway once they figured out JW's were prepared. Strong emphasis was placed on reliance on Jehovah to provide.
In more recent years there have been stories about government-prepared internment camps just waiting to be filled with JW's, in which case the government would act as host, providing food, shelter, and clothing. The scripture used to support this line of reasoning was the one that says they (the worldly people) are bread to us.
Long ago I met a PO and his wife who were spending a lot of money on exotic plants for their garden. One of the most expensive plants wasn't even expected to bloom for another 17 years! I asked how they could justify the expenditure and they said only the wicked people were leaving, the earth would still be around, so it was OK to build and to plant while at the same time expecting The End to arrive any day. I suppose WT thinks along the same lines; they're still building. Wouldn't it make good sense to distribute the money they've collected among the publishers so that they could work at the full time ministry right up to The End?
The way I see it, rolling blackouts and lack of basic skills aren't going to be the biggest problems. I don't want to be in the city when the toilets no longer flush!

Finding peace
by Nickolas inthis is for those of you who are familiar with my periodic rants about being married to a jehovah's witness.
you won't be seeing any more of them.. my wife and i were up before dawn on friday and spent the entire day on our boat, trolling 10 miles from shore and talking.
we talked about our lives together, the ground we've covered in the 40 years since we met as university freshmen.

Shunned by the window washer
by ldrnomo inover the many years my wife and i were captives of the watchtower organization we hired witnesses from time to time to heip us maintain our home.
one of those witnesses was a window washer who was quite good and reasonably priced so we have continued to use his services even after we faded 4 years ago.. so this year, my wife called to set up an appointment for him to come over and do our windows and he tells her he's not interested.
now this may be because he's so busy and overworked that he just can't fit us in or it could be that after four years of not being at meetings he has chosen to shun us.

I think you should ask him outright. Speculation (your own or someone else's) is worthless.

I wont leave her in a burning building because she doesn’t realize it is on fire.
Your statement is valid only to a certain point. You may come to realize that one parent who has made it to safety is a better example to a child than two who are breathing the smoke on the inside. Certainly be patient, but somewhere along the line give your wife credit for being a rational human being and let her make her own choice, just as you are making yours.
Love and best wishes to all involved,

Watchtower Lawyer Fills in the Baptism Blank
by Marvin Shilmer inwatchtower lawyer fills in the baptism blank .
today i uploaded a new article to my blog addressing something important that watchtower does not disclose to baptismal candidates, yet on the other hand is ever ready to point out to persons after baptism if they do something silly like ask for correspondence written about their own person.
my article contains a letter from a watchtower staff attorney informing just such an individual.

There's an "and" between "from the date of your baptism" and "your joining the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses". "And" can be construed in several ways including the mention of two separate items without necessarily linking them in the way WT would have you believe. Baptism does not necessarily mean the admission of the baptized person to a specific "religion", nor does "the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses" mean WT or any of it's subgroups (i.e., JW's as a specific legal entity). Of course, if a person is led to believe it does, so much the better for The Organization! But think, haven't several WT publications indicated that "men of old" were "Jehovah's Witnesses"? Isn't that very phrase found in the Old Testament/Hebrew scriptures? There wasn't even a legal Organization back then! Legal is one thing, spiritual is another. The two don't unite just because somebody got dunked!
Can WT and it's legal representatives get away with the things they do which make people uncomfortable? Sure....as long as you give them permission. How do you withdraw that "permission"? Walk away. It's that simple. There's no need to officially disassociate, in fact, to do so only validates the WT perspective and the power you personally believe it holds over you.
Are there social issues connected with claiming or disclaiming association with the religion commonly known as Jehovah's Witnesses? Yes, there are, but that's a separate discussion.
P.S. Regarding the 1985 baptismal question: "Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?" WT would have a difficult time proving to a court of law that it's them! If you believe it is, then you're obligating yourself. The minute you realize that the question can be understood in a different way, you're free.
