i just learned about this yesterday..i was amazed!.
i have a grown daughter that is a expert at this... .
dry begging:to ask for in an indirect and roundabout way.
Before y'all are too hard on your kids, consider this: Indirectness is the language of subservience. It means the person is in a lower place than the one they are addressing.
Think of Kings and their subjects: could the servant walk up and take a piece of the king's chocolate cake? Could the servant even *ask* for some of the cake? Nope! But...if the king was in a good mood the servant might be able to comment on how good the cake looked and, if the king thought of it, he might offer some of the cake to the servant....and no one stepped out of their role!
Kids don't think they have the "right" to ask, in many cases. Even when they do, they remember all the times they've been refused. They aren't sure of what rules apply and in most families, rules are applied haphazardly anyhow, so kids are never sure where they stand or what they can do. They're "lower". They know it. They do their best to get what they want/need while minimizing the risk of refusal.
Whatever happened to the days when a person could compliment without being accused of indirect manipulation? Is praise disappearing from the world?
hello, have been on this board for a few years, and now my wife is asking me to read the subject book with her.
.
it seems pretty 'vanilla' in my scan through it, seems to lift up the male headship issue a few times and of course the cure to all ill is to 'attend christian meetings'.. am still working to fully open her eyes, anything in here i can use that may help, any conflicts with current doctrine i could possibly point out??.
Ask her why the H she's directing you in what to do when the book teaches that the wife should be submissive to the husband so that he "may be won without a word"!!!
Remind her that it's what *you* want that matters to Jehovah, not what she wants.
If she wants to play the WT game let her pay the price.
hey, first off i didn't know where to post either here or in the poltics section?
but anyways, for the canadians on this board you all know there is the federal ellection in one month.
now i do remember there are a number of articals that say, or rather don't say its not allowed to vote.
If your parents don't vote it may not be just because they are Jehovah's Witnesses. Lots of non-witnesses don't vote.
Sometimes people view governments the same as they do corporations, and in that case they reason that voting for something they're not a part of just doesn't make sense.
As far as voting within the JW congregation, JW's are a part of that group so voting makes sense. As the article quoted above states, there's no harm in the act of voting, it's when and where that have to be considered.

i live in michigan and am currently looking to leave the area, as it is no longer the land of plenty that it once was.
i intend to move out of state, but i have this problem.
i don't have the funds to simply move and then find work when it comes to me, so it is important that i find work before i actually relocate.
Recruiters often look at your area code. If you're out of the area they really aren't interested since fewer companies are paying to fly people to interviews or coughing up relocation expenses. Now, if you have some fantastic skill or experience the story is different, but if you're applying for a job that has the potential for loads of applicants in the local area, forget it.
If you're really determined....leave your address off your resume. Get a Google Voice telephone number (free) with the area code of the place you want to move. Use email and phone only (most don't write to your postal address anyhow). Spend some time Google mapping, learn about the place you applied to and where it is in relation to everything else in the area. If you have a friend (even an online friend that you half way trust) in the area you might be able to get around the address part by hinting that you're staying with friends until you get a permanent job (to cut costs...everyone understands that!).
Michigan isn't the only place going through hard times, it's all over the country. Why move? Do you have any idea what it's like to have to learn a job at the same time you're trying to figure out where to live, how to get from Point A to Point B and how long it takes? Or where to get your car worked on, what stores have the best prices, where to eat, clean your clothes, buy new ones to suit the weather and the styles, etc.? Can you cope with the lonliness or will you be calling "home" all the time just to have someone to talk to who actually knows who you are?
Start small. Try to get on with a consulting company, if there is such a thing in your line of work. Let them send you out for a while. That way you'll be getting paid to check out new locations. You'll be making connections as well.
Try going back to school, either to upgrade your current skills or to learn new ones. No matter what your age you'll be able to make some networking connections among the faculty and students. Maybe you can land a better job where you are.
when i was a kid back in the late 50's / early 60's (yes, i am very old, now let's move on) there was a television program that capitalised on the lives of miserable women.
it was my mom's favourie.
each day monday to friday there would be four women on the show, each with a sad story to tell.
The Dave Garroway Show (first thing in the morning)
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans (my sister was "Anne Oakley", I was "Dale Evans"...we played at that for hours)
The Amos & Andy Show (worked on the radio but not on TV...hmmmm, wonder why?)
Polly Bergen advertising Pepsi
Who was the woman in the commercials for Muriel cigars?
Pepsodent! Ipana!
As The World Turns
Days of Our Lives
My grandmother took care of me when I was very young. She watched a lot of TV and I slept on the sofa.

How many of those women claimed "Oh! I never thought it would be me!" Then why were you on the show??? Sheesh. Even a kid can see through that. And all those Jacuzzi's!
How about The Life of Riley, or The William Bendix Show? Arthur Godfrey?
very thought provoking issue.
i'd like some thought from both sides if possible.
please watch the whole thing, it's worth it.
I had long-term growths on my head amputated and they were restored at the rate of about a half to one inch a month.
i'm a loner.. offline, i have few friends.
the friends i do have are dear to me but i'm bad at communicating with them, meaning i don't call often.
facebook has been a boom with me cuz i can keep contact with folks i really care about without being constantly in contact with them which would drive me crazy.. on this board i haven't got too deep with folks.
"jesus christ, what is the point of this post and who cares."
See? It worked!!!
G'nite all.
