  Why can't regular pioneers get some of the money back that they use out in field service?

  can someone please explain this to me: gas money, handing out endless amounts of publications, magazines, tracks, etc.

  why can't get some of this money back, tax write off, etc?

  why can't this happen?

  If the pioneers were reimbursed in any way for their field service it may lead to status as employees or agents of WT and expose WT to certain forms of liability. A few years ago there was a case involving a Bethelite and an auto accident where WT was found liable, the settlement was huge. As I recall the determination was that the driver was acting in behalf of WT when he became involved in the accident. Pioneers, regular publishers, brothers with positions of responsibility, are all taught to say that they do volunteer work at their own expense, according to their own schedule, and under local direction. Every bit of that is legal language designed to keep WT free of any legal entanglement.

  What some pioneers do with the contribution money they collect is another story.

  Confusing messages at DC

  okay i know everyone has probably already attended the dc and have posted their experiences here, but i just went to fri. and sat.

  session (with a drama although timely for families i thought would never end) and a couple of bizarre things stood out.. very poor attempt at explaining the overlapping gen. new light.

  during the brother's talk he said" there are two phases to the overlapping generations".

  I wonder who the lucky fortunate JW is who got the contract for providing the credit card machines? It's quite a lucrative business what with fees for the processing and all.

  serioulsy read some of their stuff and theres clear symtoms there of either drug taking and or mental insanity.. these days men claiming to have god talking to them, seeing mythical animals, rambling for chapters and chapters at a time in such a way that not even your contempories can figure out.

  are given medication for their troubles, conseling and if needed put in a pyshco ward..

  "The organization has never disappointed us..."

  in the simplified english edition of the july 15th, 2011 watchtower, in an article that warns jws about apostate influences, the following quote is given as a reason to stick close to the watchtower organization:.

  "the organization has never disappointed us and always gives us an abundance of pure waters of truth from god's word.".

  Dontcha just love it when they make a statement like that from a place where you can't dispute it? Like a convention platform or in the literature?

  It reminds me of the Wizard of Oz being behind "just" a man behind a curtain when all of Oz thought the man they saw in the bubble was the wizard.

  The Jehovah’s Witness Baby Sitter

  just thought id pop in with a new thread concerning the development on my childrens lives.

  my youngest daughter goes to a babysitter who is a sister in my wifes congregation.

  the reason being is because the child is an infant and regular daycare is much too expensive.

  Since when does an adult (the babysitter) tell a child (yours) what she does and does not like? It's inappropriate. You might want to bring just that much to her attention (leaving out the JW angle).

  Im being disfellowshipped

  i was supposed to go to a judical meeting on sat but i told the elders i wasnt going but they held it anyway.

  its going to be announced that im going to be disfellowshipped at the weekend.

  hate the fact my parents wont talk to me anymore.

  Disfellowshipping is humiliating....for as long as *you* believe the elders have the right and the authority. Once you figure out that they're not special in the eyes of God and don't represent God or his "arrangement", you will begin to recover.

  As for how people treat you, once you stop thinking you should cast your eyes down and cower in a corner, people will treat you pretty much the same as they treat anyone else. If they're nasty people they'll shun you to make themselves feel better, if they're good-hearted they'll treat you much as they always have, with love.

  You're going to learn a lot from this experience and, as people have already said, a lot of us are here to help. Spend as much time as you need seeking support and don't feel that you're burdening anybody here, 'cause there are many to share the load.

  Wow, this bit of info surprised even me!!!

  i just spoke to a witness friend (has been a witness 25+ years), who said that the elders in her congregation told her that witnesses had better be prepared to begin going door to door, not to announce "good news", but to denounce people who refuse to accept "the trvth".

  has anyone else heard about this?

  i thought it was a joke at first, but she said no, that's where the elders told her things were headed.

  onacruise - Craig Mills 1952-2011

  i was given the link to a bit of information regarding on old poster/moderator of this forum.

  i was not sure of the validity of the information so have been trying to find out if it is true.. earlier today craig's estranged wife, kate, (bikerchic) confirmed that craig died at his home on aug 10, 2011.. i am sure that many people here remember craig's time here and how he went out of his way to offer support to posters, even calling them, to give whatever help he could as they adjusted to their post-jw lives.. i know many people here will grieve his loss.. --------------.

  you hear the witlesses harping on how great tribulation is coming.

  there are signs even in the world that major bedlam is soon to break out.. so then, how many witlesses did you know that have plans to make such tribulation a bit more endurable?

  you know, things like gold and silver in case their currency becomes worthless.

  During my time as a JW were were told (via Awake! articles, mostly) not to stockpile anytihng (except maybe a couple of extra cans of coffee, no joke!) because people would just carry it off anyway once they figured out JW's were prepared. Strong emphasis was placed on reliance on Jehovah to provide.

  In more recent years there have been stories about government-prepared internment camps just waiting to be filled with JW's, in which case the government would act as host, providing food, shelter, and clothing. The scripture used to support this line of reasoning was the one that says they (the worldly people) are bread to us.

  Long ago I met a PO and his wife who were spending a lot of money on exotic plants for their garden. One of the most expensive plants wasn't even expected to bloom for another 17 years! I asked how they could justify the expenditure and they said only the wicked people were leaving, the earth would still be around, so it was OK to build and to plant while at the same time expecting The End to arrive any day. I suppose WT thinks along the same lines; they're still building. Wouldn't it make good sense to distribute the money they've collected among the publishers so that they could work at the full time ministry right up to The End?

  The way I see it, rolling blackouts and lack of basic skills aren't going to be the biggest problems. I don't want to be in the city when the toilets no longer flush!
