I remember a talk once where the speaker criticised other religions for having Sunday schools, youth groups etc. He then proceeded to demonstrate how "Jehovah's Organisation" provided for the spiritual needs of young people by producing five books for them in as many decades. The irony escaped most people there (as it usually does!)

Why dont JW's have a youth group?
by In_between_days insomething that has been alarming to my jw family is the amount of teens ("young ones") that have bailed out of the organisation, never to return.. they use the excuse, as would most jw's that "satan is getting them - he knows young ones are vulnerable.".
if you want my opinion, young people are getting far more educated - they are becoming far more broad minded than they were say 10 or 20 years ago.
because of the slow yet sturdy slackening of the "no college" rule, many more young jw's are attending university or college than ever before, and with further education comes more knowledge, more interaction with reasonable and intelligent conversations with educated people and most importantly -use of the internet ("satans latest tool, as put by a jw i talked to recently).

I'm sure people will disagree with me (funkyderek springs to mind)! nevertheless I think its true.
It's nice to have a reputation. I'd better not disappoint:
Coincidences that at first seem amazing are usually quite mundane when examined further. A 20,000 to 1 coincidence seems almost impossible until we realise that we all know dozens or even hundreds of people, each of whom has hundreds of pieces of information available for coincidence, it becomes inevitable that we will encounter many of these coincidences (which is why so many people here have stories to share).
For example:
My wife and I have birthdays seven days apart. We are both left handed, both first born, and both have ancestors that faught in the Revolutionary War. My son's birthday is one day before mine, and my oldest daughter's is 12 days after mine. She is left handed also.
Both left handed, both first born, both have ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War. The odds for that particular set of data are probably fairly low but they're just three unrelated characteristics out of thousands. For another couple it could be (for example), both have brown eyes, both were born on a Wednesday, both lost a grandparent to cancer.
The cluster of birthdays is perhaps worthy of note but again there are many other configurations that would be just as coincidental. That some improbable event will occur is likely; that a particular one will occur is unlikely.
Here's an article that deals more with the probabilities behind coincidences, especially ones to do with shared birthdates.

Terrorism in the UK
by roybatty inthis past weekend i was watching a movie entitled "blown away.
" basically it's about a renegade ira bomber seeking revenge on a former compatriot who's fled to the us.
with relative ease, the "mad bomber" proceeds to blow up several people and sites in the city of boston.

Just in case anyone thinks terrorism in the six counties is all about republicans bombing the "mainland":

Voyeur gets women to bare breasts for satellite
by ashitaka invoyeur gets women to bare breasts for satellite .
(filed: 28/06/2002) .
four women have contacted police after being persuaded to stand topless in their windows or balconies so that a satellite could give them a mammogram.. the women, aged between 19 and 45, living in the algarve, southern portugal, were all contacted by telephone by a woman claiming to be a doctor.. she told them that a revolutionary method had been developed of conducting breast examinations by satellite.. they were told that the consultation would be free if they followed instructions by stripping to the waist and standing in view of the satellite.. one woman was so trusting that she took off all her clothes for the "examination".. later, the women were telephoned with the alleged results of the examinations.

I won't cut my beard!
by caballoSentado insome time ago i learned of the un affair & saw the truth...i am fading away now so i have not been attending meetings regularly for some time, specially the book study.
two days ago, i learned that a letter was read in my book study regarding personal attire, and it was said that one should not grow a beard (this letter was not read in any of the other book studies).
they say you are not a good christian, you are not spiritual, if you grow a beard.

I would like them to show me, with the bible, why I cannot wear a beard!.

What is the basis of Deism? Reason and nature. We see the design found throughout the known universe and this realization brings us to a sound belief in a Designer or God.
The argument from design is fundamentally flawed. What they really mean is "We see the complexity found throughout the known universe and assume or prove that complexity means design, and from this infer a belief in a Designer or God." Such an argument rests on the strength of the correlation between complexity and design.

BRAZIL 2 X 1 ENGLAND (the best match of this cup)
Have you been watching the other games?! It was pretty dull and neither team played particularly well.
The best match so far has to be Ireland v Spain. 2 disallowed goals, a missed penalty, an equaliser in stoppage time, extra time, a penalty shoot-out, down to the last penalty. What more could you want? (Except a few more decent penalty-takers on the Irish team!)

UK Congregation List - ASSISTANCE NEEDED!
by nicolaou inthere are approximately 1300 congregations in the uk.
it would be useful for those who are working on various projects to have access to this list in an easy to use form.
the simplest way of gathering the addresses and po contact details is via the charity commission website.. unfortunately, the site only yields a maximum of 500 alphabetical results [still not bad!

There's a "Search for charities by the area in which they operate" link. Wouldn't using that be easier?
