On what scriptures does the WT oppose higher education?

recently the wt has taken a stricter stand regarding going to college and getting a higher education.

does anyone know what scriptures the wt uses to support this?

i can't find any in the bible.

I purposely didn't read over nor paid attention to the recent WT discussing such matters.....but a quick search of the CD yielded.

Higher Education?
A Christian has a Scriptural obligation to care for his family, and that includes providing for their material needs. (1 Tim. 5:8) Still, does this really require a college or a university degree?It would be good to consider what effect pursuing higher education could have on one's relationship with Jehovah. Let us illustrate this by considering a Scriptural example.
Baruch was the secretary to the prophet Jeremiah. At one point, rather than focusing on the privileges he had in serving Jehovah, Baruch became ambitious. Jehovah noticed this and through Jeremiah warned him: "You keep seeking great things for yourself. Do not keep on seeking."-Jer. 45:5.
What were the "great things" that Baruch kept seeking? He may have been tempted to make a name for himself in the Jewish system of things. Or the great things could have been material prosperity. In any case, he had lost sight of the more important things, those having spiritual value. (Phil. 1:10) Yet, Baruch obviously listened to Jehovah's warning through Jeremiah and thus gained his soul as a spoil.-Jer. 43:6.
What can we draw from this account? The counsel Baruch received indicates that something was amiss. He was seeking great things for himself. If you have a means of supporting yourself, do you really need to spend time, money, and effort on further education just to realize personal aspirations or those of your parents or other relatives?
Consider Grzegorz, a computer programmer. Persuaded by his colleagues, he took up an intensive course of additional specialized training. Soon he had no time left for spiritual pursuits. He recalls: "I constantly felt on edge. My conscience troubled me because I could not reach the spiritual goals I had set for myself."

eisenhower may have been instrumental in bringing "under god" to the pledge of allegiance and making "in god we trust" the national motto, but he was reared in a religious tradition that does not allow its adherents to take oaths of office or to recite the pledge of allegiance--the jehovah's witnesses (a religion/denomination born in the united states, as was mormonism).

c.t russell was, they admit 90% wrong.. ditto for rutherford.. ditto for a lot in the intervening years, wrong and wrong again, so the need for "new light".. what makes them think that the 2012 version is any more right than the previous tripe ?.

how can they know it won't all be dross tomorrow ?.

Scriptural Grounds for divorce.....

i was watching a dumb show with my dear wife.

in the program a wife tried unsuccessfully to kill her husband.

i remarked to my wife "if you ever did that i would divorce you!

There are not 'scriptural grounds for divorce' (you can get divorced for less than adultery) and since a spouse can choose to forgive adultery it ain't hard and fast.......

There are only scriptural grounds for remarriage......

Chap 4, section 20 from the 'shepherding' says:

20. If a Christian contemplating separation,
the elders can point out what the Scriptures say.
(1 Cor. 7:10, 11) They can explain there a few
exceptional situations that some have viewed as a basis
for separation. (Iv pp. 219-221; w8811/1 pp. 22-25)
If the Christian is considering obtaining a divorce,
the elders should explain that divorce does not free
him to remarry unless adultery occurs. (Matt. 19:9) In
addition, the extreme step of divorce may make it
more difficult to reconcile. Elders should not encourage separation
or divorce; neither should they forbid
it. Separation and divorce are personal matters, and
each Christian will to accept the consequences
for his decision. (Gal. 6:7) However, the elders may
determine that a publisher's decisions in this area
disqualify him or her from receiving special privileges
normally given to those viewed as exemplary.

Theo Min School and Public Speaker Training Outdated...

i used to think that the theocratic ministry school was extremely valuable.. and i think it does have it's value.. but i think public speaking has changed so dramatically the last few years.. last time i went to the kh... the public speakers were speaking at a very "low" level.. i think part of the thing the current crop of religious speakers (like joel osteen, etc... they are so dynamic.. and even speakers like tony robbins.... i think the style of speaking for witness speakers has become old school.. granted - yes... they have an audience that is "obligated" to listen to them.

but they have not evolved at all as public speakers - and probably is getting worse.. most public speakers aren't glued to an outline.... just a thought.... .

Our WT conductor could give lessons to the GB he soo good!......outline, he don't need no stinking outline (ditto for our previous CO).

Our COBOE...... he manages to mangle even a straight outline presentation......he just a nervous nelly. A 14 yr old dubbie bred boy could deliver better then him.

REMINDS ME.......I propose that SD-7 rewrite the outlines for parody!

"Who has the Truth" ......."TRUTH" in the WTS is just 'Jesus was enthroned in 1914" (but we didn't even start teaching that til the 1920s)

So as defined by the WTS only the WTS and the 'reformed JWs of Romania' have the 'TRUTH' ....

If you want to be a Christian, yes the Bible is the holy book you need to seek.

That said, interpetations vary.

While I don't discourage your study in the Bible I would also encourage you to find yourself worthy of self-preservation. Beating yourself up with alcohol isnt a good idea since you are more then likely gonna die in this system of things and there is a lot of life to enjoy versus it passing in a haze. Get into a detox program, start restoring your body through proper nutrition and come talk to us when the JW thing starts gnawing on your mind.....

While I usually post how the WTS can 'modernize/mormonize' and last another 100 yrs or whatever.....

Cedar's comment has given me opportunity to suggest an exit strategy for the WTS.

2034 is perfect, they don't have to change a thing, just let this barge slowly ground itself.

Sell off the rest of the property, claim it is going into the world wide work, remote lands requiring much more funds to sneak in the 'truth'...

Make big demands on culty allegiance and donations....

Get the money out of the US and into a safe area where it can be reinvested for personal gain.....

Tout without fail that Oct 31 2034 will be the END! A very special edition of a OCT 31ST WT, the final epub "The end has come ...... we thank all our loyal readers" To whom it may concern the stockholders on the morning of Oct 31, 2034 unanimously agreed to halt all production and funtion of the WT.

While the thought of greedy stockholders continuing to live off the invested donations of the many victims of the WT pyramid is disheartening.... I would gladly trade it for them continuing to claim victims with this never ending farce......
