although i haven't been a witness for over 20 years, it has taken me that long to finally feel brave enough to join another church (aka christendom) and begin researching my past beliefs.
all this research has opened a few old wounds, but mostly liberated me from a lot of quilt.

will we ever see another governing body member leave the organization like ray franz did and speak out against them?.
one can only imagine the kind of dirt that's been concealed behind those gb sessions since the 1980's.. what are your thoughts?.
Slimboyfat...
yes
Giggles.... oh the implications that could mean within Legal

Do you really think the Legal Department would allow anyone to join without signing a non-disclosure contract?
The only way I could see anything possible to the likes of Crisis of Consciences is a posthumous commentary/notations shared by the surviving wife or child(ren) of a GB.
Even then I could see legal action to block publication.

anyone speak legal-ese?
sounds to me, (not fluent in legal-ese mind you or real estate-ese) like they are being sued for a bad real estate deal.
Honestly....
I think Lorterdan is hoping to delay repurchase or for a settlement less than 11.5 million...
I would side with the WTS on this one...
From what was posted/linked I don't see exact language requiring the WTS to pursue rezoning beyond initial application .... afterall the Town could continue to call for amendments forever if they didn't like the revised final zoning proposal .....(which obviously could exceed the 2 yr period).

I am only on page 12....
But what i am reading is
2 yrs repurchase agreement (RA).
WTS seeks rezoning....shot down, asked to resubmit and fails to do so (bottom pg 7)but pursues tax issues in the meanwhile.
Tax issues are quieted with community donations somewhat but the WTS has to constantly reapply on Taxes...
WTS gets fed up and say 'FIDO-it' and seeks Repurchase Agreement.
Lorterdan learns that WTS failed to resubmit revised final zoning proposal and believe they have a window to nullify RA and receive the CA money (9.5 mil).
apologies if there is another recent thread on this, but i have heard from 4 different people in 3 different geographic areas (including someone who does advance work for the dcs), that beginning in 2013 the three day dc program will be replaced by a second two-day circuit assembly.
some people were passing the info along like a secret, others seemed to think that everyone already knew.. if everyone in j-dub land is already talking about this, how is it not all over this forum??.
anyway, can anyone confirm or deny?.
Okay I am on a Service break right now....(DC campaign)
We all relaxing--2 of us with pad/netbook
All of us plan on driving home each day as nearest (singular) hotel is booked by Elders/MS/DC coordinators and Non-JWs attending/participating secular event being held on the other side of venue.... next nearest hotels are 5/10 miles away.
Asked their thoughts on us having our DC moved to AH....(same distance as DC but opposite direction)
Oldest sister shot the idea down saying 'we give a public witness through the DCs'
So if we do move the DCs to the AH...... HOW ARE WE GONNA GIVE A PUBLIC WITNESS?
(((( BTW all are okay with a 2-day DC....Fridays are nice but massively empty minus moms, MS/Elders and retirees ))))
last saturday i was home with my wife, having a leisurely brekky pottering around in the kitchen ,then i noticed her standing still pondering ,what`s up i asked , wife :i thought i heard someone knocking ,i looked out the window to see two middle aged guys exciting my front drive.why didn`t you tell me they were their,i didn`t hear them.
i would have engaged them in conversation , but my wife doesn`t think i ought to,just let it go ,is her motto.. but my point is : i`m not deaf , and i didn`t hear them at the door , we were both in the front room ,my wife only thought she heard someone at the door only to be proved right observing them leaving i was in my pj`s and dressing gown so was not going to pursue them.
we have been living here nearly 5 years now and i can honestly say they have never been on our doorstep more than 4 times if that , i personally have only encountered them 3 times at the most.
I am in FS right now.... (we just drove 25 miles to our break destination and we gonna goof until it is time to head home)
Here is what I can tell you about my territory...
Memorial = real knocking (especially if we have the 'good' time slot-- cuz we like to dazzle CO with turnout)..... if we got the so-so and sucky slot--we focus solely on those who have associated with congregation or Org.. Strict territorial lines are to be observed-but they get ignored in hopes of raising attendance.
DC = koolaid knocking, Elders want us to have high numbers/zeal .......(if you can get a worldly to accompany you to the DC you get some sort of bonus if you are Brother reaching out). We intermingle with other congregations during this campaign.....
Regular non-CO visiting FS=
Pioneers= 90% meandering/bs/shopping-errands/socially visiting with forever rv .....7% nobody home ....2% actually talked to householder or left a lil something-something and marked as a RV......1% 'real' informal witnessing (favored by Sisters who are 65+ during shopping/errands/standing in lines)
Weekend publishers= usually families, packs of teens led by Brother MS, older ones driven by Elder/Elderette, childless/empty-nest Elder/Ms and their wives doing social service (read long breaks and rural routes) or single mom sisters pairing up. The doors are actually more likely to be approached during the weekend accompanied by the faint or faked knock.
Most of the worldly who have taken a sincere interest are either because they liked a JW romantically, related to a JW, employment with a JW, had some other social dependence on a JW (but has little to no access to internet or isn't internet savvy) or the one time (yes only once in our congos 30+ years existance) because they were at a 'needy' point in their lives and as if by prayer a JW ended up on their door.
I think many Bro/Sis don't feel the the end is really nigh and nothing new is on the horizon.....when I spilled the beans about yet another year and no book release quite a few were 'discouraged'.....the brochures just don't feel 'meaty' enough.
Google, the economy and general disinterest among the poor in matters of faith (middle class and up mostly attend churches (minus RCC) here and make many feel unwelcomed in their popularity game or in our case expected dress-code) are killing the harvest.....
i'm doing some research for a new blog article on the governing body.
it's in a question-and-answer or "faq" format, and attempts to give simple but well-founded answers to most questions that people could conceivably ask about the governing body.. one thing i noticed when looking at the history of the governing body is that we seem to be in the middle of a lengthy "dry spell" when it comes to making new appointments.. gerrit losch is currently the longest-serving member having been appointed in 1994. however, his appointment came at the end of a 17 year period in which no appointments were made.
this contrasts notably with the remarkable six-year period between 1971 and 1977 when 15 members were added.. since losch's appointment, 4 members were added in 1999 (herd, lett, pierce and splane) and 2 more recently in 2005 (morris and jackson).. the seven year spell since the last appointments were made has seen the deaths of barber, barr, jaracz, shroeder and sydlik - cutting the number of governing body members almost in half.
Rumors have circulated Bethel for YEARS of new appointments...
If I was a GB memeber I wouldn't want to add until Sam is on his death bed or passes.
If I was a GB and being forced to choose .... I think the previous rumored men would be good but also adding a Brother with a Latino surname for good measure.
i am an atheist and have been for a few years.
i was in the troof for about 10 years, and am so glad to be a sinner now.
good to meet you all..
(and then whispers good night, sleep tight!)
ive been lurking for quite sometime and now feel the need to come and noob it up.
it's taken a lot to bring me to read anything critical of the wts.
i used to glance at these apostate sites and shutter in fear because of the obvious demonic venom that can be found :) i am still an active witness and have been in this struggle to stay both in and be removed mentally from this organization.
