i am thankful for my partner of almost 11 years, and am thankful for the friends that i have made on the board, which include, but are not limited to:.
snowbird, broken promises, glander, mr and mrs. rabbit, big tex, nina, elsewhere, lady lee and all others i have had a chance to know.. i am thankful for our humble home, and am thankful that i have been able to fill it with furnishings and trinkets of yesteryear, things made from people that have been passed from generation to generation over the course of 200 plus years.. i'm thankful that we have enough food to eat, and that we are able to feed the countless raccoons, possums, birds, squirrels, slugs, snails, reptiles and every other living creature that passes our doorsteps and yard.. i am thankful that i had my little girl for 14-1/2 years before she died.
even though i still grieve for her on a daily basis, i am glad that i was able to share with her and give her the same love that she showed me while she was alive.. i am thankful that we are able to have enough to sponsor 3 children in africa and south america every month, so that they too can eat and have much needed medical care.. i am thankful that the latest overseas fight didn't end in a world war.. what things are you thankful for??

I think we will see some hesitation due implementation of Obamacare but all in all we will adjust and move onward to brighter days.
My husband was talking yesterday about his plans after his current project is over and he was upbeat, he hasn't been 'upbeat' since late 2007!
I don't entirely mind the US going into debt a bit more if it is over investing in education and innovation ......I see it as kind of like sending a failing student to tutoring to ensure they get the marks for a full scholarship.

i think this forum's best moments can be attributed to the involvement of actual jw's in doctrinaire discussions and to heated (though not always dialectic) debates.

sorry if anyone has already posted on this but i did not see anything related in the few pages of active topics i checked.. last saturday i went to an oil change facilty and one of their perks is they give you a copy of the current usa today while you wait in your car.
on page 8a is a full page ad titled "liberty of conscience threatened.... a national sunday law will be established as the mark of the beast.".
the article then goes on a typical adventist rant about how saturday, not sunday, is the real sabbath established by god.
I dunno.....
I did notice today they were advertizing a prophecy series.
i told some jw friends about the confirmed changes to the understanding of who the fds is.
two brothers that are in appointed positions stated "i thought that was the understanding already".. .

My biggest struggle putting my kids in public is they get bored, annoyed at the level of institutional structure or the pressure of hall herding to class with minimum time (but they love the electives and socialization).
My youngest has expressed a desire to homeschool one semester a year and than 'hang' with buds during basketball and baseball season, while my oldest is devising plans to test out of basic courses and load up on electives...

I know a few JWs who briefly used both newsystemschool and pearblossom....
I would say that if a parent was clueless of lesson plans then newsystemschool is a good start if online public school isn't available.
These days it is pretty easy to obtain free resources from online public school textbooks and yags or using achive or google books for historical teaching methods (I loved Ray's Arithmetic and McGuffey's primers/readers)
Ultimately, homeschooling success (JW or other) depends on the parent (and ideally a great support group).
Also it is of the utmost importance to abide state laws.

book publishers who sell their textbooks for astronomical prices in the u.s. but much cheaper in other countries are suing entrepreneurs who import the cheaper but identical books and sell them for less.. at issue is whether you own the stuff you buy.
Such a sad state of affairs....
This is why sites like library pirate (textbooks) are getting more traffic ...
These days the textbook companies still make money when a publisher site is used as part of the class with an average of $75-$100 access fee (free with full price book purchase).
