Computer Science is a booming market right now. Mix it with a business degree and you are golden. Do be careful not to equate a degree with success, though. Some degrees are truly worthless, except as a step to even higher education or in a niche market. This is why I major in Accounting and minor in Writing. I want to be a writer, but I can't be sure that writing will put food on the table. Accounting on the other hand has not felt the same squeeze as other fields with the crumbling economy, so is a much safer bet.

I am trying to figure out my future if I should go to college or just keep working a regular job...............................
by andys ini am faced with a dilema right now and need some advice on what i should do with my future, i realize that eventually i'll grow old and will need to somehow work my way up so i have something to fall back on, like someone told me once i don't really have a support structure to fall back on, if something happened where i could not work i would probably wind up homeless, moving back in with my parents house would be out of the question because i would never go back to the borg.. this is my situation right now, everything is going good, i love my job, i am single no kids, i work at a hosptal making $10/hour doing janitorial work, also my rent is very cheap about $350 a month for rent on a duplex, i live less then a mile from work, right now i have the most ideal situation to save alot of money even on $10/hr job, but also i realize that everything can go all at once, if i ever lost my job since i don't have no support structure and could not find work i would be sol.. now to some of the things i like doing, i like to drive, one of the things i have always wanted to do is learn truck driving, since i don't have no extra responsibilites, i am still having a hard time though making a decision, on one hand i like my current job, but on the other hand i realize that i do have to plan for the future, if anyone can give me some advice i am at a loss of what to do, also because of the way the econommy is here in the us right now sometimes i think its best to stick with the job that i have but still don't know whats best..

in your opinion what is the best way to stop drinking?
by stuckinamovement ini have found myself drinking more and more since i realized that the truth was a lie just to quiet my mind.
it's not like i am a drunk or anything, it hasn't affected my work or relationships, it is that i really don't like being a slave to anyone or anything including delicious beer.
mmmm beer.... so to avoid being a slave to a habit, i have determined to stop drinking.

I drank a lot after leaving the JWs and my abusive husband. I found that every time I thought about the things he did, or how long I stayed, or how stupid or weak I was, I would have a beer and it would relax my mind and take away the anxiety.
So, I found another way to relax my mind (for me it was running) and didn't focus on the alcohol. I can drink responsibly because I am not an alcoholic. You don't sound like one either, but only you can know that. Figure out what the beer is giving you and find a healthier way to get it. Don't give up alcohol if that isn't your true issue.
But, if you find you need the alcohol, and your JW exit is merely an excuse, then seek professional help.

I bet that your employer would accommodate you if you told them you were considering college. They may adjust your schedule for classes. Some places have scholarships and tuition reimbursement as well. My school offers nearly free tuition to employees and many of our janitors have worked their way through college that way. It doesn't have to be an either/or decision.

I am starting my 5th year of a 5 year program in a private liberal arts college in MT. I anticipate my Master's of Accountancy in May 2012. I am 31 and a single mom of two.
I know that anonymity is key to a lot of you out there in X-JW land, but for the students, what are you studying and how close are you to earning your degree?

If You Heard An Acquaintance Was Considering A Study With JWs Would You Get Involved At All?
by minimus inwould you express an opinion to that person studying with the witnesses or would you keep quiet?.
if you did say something, what would it be?.

I would speak up. The hard part is trying to sound sane when telling someone that the nice 'bible lady' is trained to unconsciously brainwash people into joining a cult. In the past, I have just thrown a couple of examples of weird teachings out there and suggested internet research.

I prayed and then there was a knock at the door ...
by wannabefree ini had heard about the mormons, but i had not been the least interested in them.
in that 5 month time period from when i prayed to god up until the day i got saved, no mormons or jehovah's witnesses came knocking on my door and they would always come to my house on saturdays.
anna looked up to see her baby brother falling toward her.

LOL @Robdar
I prayed for guidance when I left the RCC after a year - that was my first attempt to move on from the JWs - and the next day I received a package from my great aunt with some things that my grandmother left me. Inside, I found a mezuzah, kiddish cups, a challah cover and recipe, and photos of my great X 5 grandmother.
Now I am an agnostic (I don't believe that God, if He/She is up there, sends random people or packages to us when we pray) But, after studying Judaism, I feel more comfortable with my non-christian status. So some good came out of it...

Solitude Ella Wheeler Wilcox Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth, But has trouble enough of its own.
Sing, and the hills will answer; Sigh, it is lost on the air.
The echoes bound to a joyful sound, But shrink from voicing care.
Rejoice, and men will seek you; Grieve, and they turn and go.
They want full measure of all your pleasure, But they do not need your woe.
Be glad, and your friends are many; Be sad, and you lose them all.
There are none to decline your nectared wine, But alone you must drink life's gall.
Feast, and your halls are crowded; Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give, and it helps you live, But no man can help you die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure For a long and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on Through the narrow aisles of pain.

I would either go with "Hi, I am doing well! Life is wonderful, isn't it?" or no response at all. If you can't pull off the "I'm so happy" bit, then ignore. You don't have to explain and she didn't ask for an explanation. Treat it as if she were a long lost friend and think about whether you want her back in your life, all things considered. Good luck!

Great job! I am in my thirties and in college as well. I graduate with honors this spring from a 5-year program. (BS+MA Accountancy) It is more difficult for us non-trads, I believe, because we also have "real life" to attend to in addition to classes, but it is possible to strike a balance.
Good luck on the rest! It looks like you are taking the campus by storm!!
