My Bethel Experience Part 15
by new boy inthe courtship from hell.......i started driving up to rhode island in september of 1972. i would go about every other week.
i needed to "step down" as a book study servant, because at the time daryl christianson had come up with this brillant idea that all the book study conductors should visit everyone in their own book studies and everyone in someone else's book studies every 2 months.........so between, bethel, and a part time "g" job, going up to rhode island and shepparding everyone in the book studies, it was just to much.
so for the first time in my life, i declined a "privilege of service"........it didn't feel that bad......and in fact felt damn good.......little did i know i was leaving one hell for another one.. what i 'm about to tell you...........is the absolute truth!..........we had 2 dates in a year and a half........that is two dates in 18 months.........."2" dates...........the only time they would let us be together with out a chaperone was in the field service...........the whole courtship was spent on her parents couch in the living room......with one of them in the other room!

I just read this, starting over at Randy's site. Good information, very revealing. Thank you for sharing your stories and experiences at Bethell.

Who to Send a Disassociation Letter To?
by WTWizard inif i am going to send a disassociation letter, i am wondering which hounder to send it to.
i know there is no mailboxes at the kingdumb hell, so any letters that get sent there would end up dead mail.
and i know that one does not send them to the washtowel slaveholdery.

There are many examples on the internet of disassociation letters. Do a google search for the phrase disassociation letter and it will turn up several results that could be used for examples. Maybe we need a list of those links here for others in the links section.

Jehovah's Witnesses and Apostates
by tfjw injehovah's witnesses basically define the term "apostate" as someone who was once a member of the "organization" (a jehovah's witness) but no longer follows the teachings, rules, regulations and practices.
the society gives their official definition in the following manner: "apostasy is abandoning or deserting the worship and service of god, actually a rebellion against jehovah god.
some apostates profess to know and serve god but reject teachings or requirements set out in his word.

Excellent post - Stephen...are you really over 70 years ? You certainly speak as one of us "Senior" ones with many years of Borg service behind you..
Yep, I'm that old. I was raised in the organization. My grandparents were among the early adventist type Bible students who knew Russell. I stepped away as one of the "anointed christians".

Singing at the Meetings is so mindless...
by logic&reason ini was always uncomfortable singing at the meetings when i was a kid.
as an adult, i rarely if ever sing anymore because i think it is a joke.
sit down, listen for 45 minutes.

What about the ones (they were rare) who thought they were opera singers. This one sister would gesture while she was singing, and she would try to hold notes at the end of the verse. It was awful. She would close her eyes and contort her face while she was singing. Sometimes we would be in tears from laughter. I mean really... how can you take it that serious when you are singing such shitty songs?
In one of the cong's I attended the District Overseer's wife thought she was an opera singer. Terrible. Like a cat getting its tail stepped on. Absolutely freakish!I agree that the pink book wasn't so bad. A long time ago we didn't have the sound system and usually someone wasn't able to play the piano so we did it without music. Really bad! One of my least favorite ones, "Loyally Submitting to Theocratic Order". Stephen -

The KH I attended last didn't have a mail box. I had my original notarized (which wasn't really necessary), then I made several copies. Sent the original to Bethel, a copy to each elder in the local KH, the pioneers, various regular publishers, copies to some of the preachers of the bigger churches in the area, and a few to family members.
All mail was certified with signature required upon receipt.
That was probably over doing it though but I wanted to get the word out.
I receieved a visit from three elders about the matter. I remember the PO saying, "Well, we'll have to talk to the Society about this because there isn't anything we can do at the moment." It was announced about a month later and I never heard back from them and then I moved from that town and state. I have heard from some of the publishers and one of the pioneers who later left the Society.

Maybe when I was younger I would do that but not now. Too feeble and wabbly.

The Society knows that the "apostates" are the most dangerous group to them because it's the "apostates" that expose them. "Apostates" are the best witnesses against the Society because they know the inside of the tower better than the new ones coming into the organization.

Worshipping the Watchtower: Symbolism and Idolatry
by Eyes Open inthe other day, something occurred to me: the symbol of the watchtower is in my old kingdom hall's driveway, created with different coloured bricks.
it would be interesting to read of any other displays which show that the symbol of the watchtower is effectively held as sacred.

Here is a photograph taken at the WT Educational Center in Patterson with the symbol on the glass doors.
