Closure of an Elder run JW forum
by CharlieBrownsLovelyDaughter insome of you may know of a longstanding jw owned and operated forum named "touchstone forum" (www.touchstoneforum.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/yabb.pl).
wrench, the elder who ran the board, closed its doors rather quickly a couple of weeks ago, and has refused to discuss the reasons for the closure.
no announcement of closing.

I crashed one of those types of forums about a year ago. Was on it for about 3 months. Whenever a thread would start about how enjoyable the holiday witnessing was or how interesting the last assembly was, I would post a comment like this: "I went out over the holidays and it was a drag, no one wanted to talk and no one took the magazines"
Or on assembly threads I would say: "I thought the last assembly was boring I had a hard time staying awake"
The moderator would send me emails telling me I was too negative and I simply replied that I was just being honest and isn't that what we're supposed to be?
I finally quit because it was getting boring.

Confessed my Doubts to my Wife
by cantleave inwell - i today i had the opportunity to tell my wife i no longer believe in the things that i have spent my life immersed in and that i didn't want my life run by 9 geriatrics in brooklyn.. her reaction was understandable her first questions was "what have you been reading"?.
i didn't mention this site but told her i was shocked by something i heard regarding the wts's ngo status with the un, dissapointed by the new light on the generation and disturbed by the flip flopping on blood fractions.
i explained how these things were at best hypocritical and at worst have meant some people have lost their lives unnecessarily because of the societies previous position.

Joshua and my father
by mrsjones5 inreading oompa's little dilemma reminds me of something my mother said to me about a week ago.
apparently my father thinks that my youngest shouldn't go on the outings that my father takes the kids on.
he questions whether the things that they are doing (going to g rated movies) is age appropriate for my youngest son joshua (he's 6).

After observing your children this past week, it would be absurd to leave Joshua out of the activities.
It's plain to see all of your other children love Joshua and that Joshua is an intelligent young man who loves to interact with his siblings and others.
Your father must not have the desire or patience to deal with a special child.
Speaking as a Grandfather, I found Joshua heart-warming very bright and he has a great sense of humor.
It's too bad your father can't see those things.

NWT - Accurately translated bible rumor
by Girlie inhas anyone on here heard of this rumor or even know if this is true?
supposedly, on an episode of jeopardy, one of the questions asked was which version of the bible was considered the most accurately translated from the original hebrew and greek text and the answer was the new world translation.
i tried looking this up online to no avail.

JWs who don't believe they have the truth. What percent?
by I quit! inevery year i think about this and i believe every year the percent goes up but it is hard to know what the number is because any doubting jw lives in fear of being found out.
they know how their lives would be permanently changed if they openly stated that they just couldn't believe it anymore.
i think there could be kingdom halls were 50% of the people attending don't believe they have the truth but think they are the only one that feels that way because every other doubter is doing the same thing they are doing.

To many of the under 40 rank and file their mostly doing a lot of the Jdub stuff because it's their tradition. So instead of a tradition to celebrate birthdays the tradition becomes not celebrating and Yada Yada Yada.
Maybe once their believing parents die off, they will be less under pressure to keep up the Jdub traditions.

Why The WTS chooses to shoot itself in the foot
by besty infrank and barbara kavelin's recent disfellowshipping for 'apostasy' two years after they stopped going to meetings made me ponder why exactly the wts frequently pursues people long after they have disappeared off the jw scene.
at first glance it seems a counterproductive strategy to make enemies out of people who would otherwise leave quietly.
i've had the pleasure of getting to know frank and barb over the last year or so and i know for a fact that frank's story would not be on jwn and freeminds if he hadn't been disfellowshipped.
