I can't wait until they finally excavate the main tomb. It supposedly has a small scale replica of the entire empire with lakes and rivers of liquid mercury.

Any metal heads?
by DEDMACHINE injust curious if there's any major metal heads here?
what sort of bands or music are all you guys into?
i'm a huge opeth fan, and death metal for that matter.

As a born-in I was obviously forbidden from listening to anything metal but in secret I would loop any song I could get my hands on that featured crunchy distorted guitar. I was a metalhead in hiding.
One of the best moments of my life was attending the Heavy MTL festival in Montreal where I got to see Testament, Mastodon, Megadeth, Anvil, Slayer, Skeletonwitch and Lamb of God. I was on pure metal overload.

Design or Non-Design, finally we know, Darwin's Doubt
by QC inif you want to read the definitive explanation on fossils and how life arrived its covered in darwins doubt, by s.c. meyer.
this is a game changer.

QC - You just stated that all creatures have their DNA "custom made" which is why I specifically asked about Neanderthals. Going in with no assumptions about evolution, this species has unique DNA from modern man yet also had complex social structures (religious burial, advanced stone tool making, etc.)
How do you rationalize this?

Ok, if humans were the primary focus of God's creative efforts, why did he create separate species of man like the Neanderthals and allow them to die out as well? And yes, Neanderthals ARE a separate species with distinct DNA.

Ok, so playing Devil's advocate here we'll accept QC's proposition that God created all distinct species out of thin air. It is estimated that 99.9% of all species (plant, animal and other) that have ever existed are extinct - Newman, Mark. "A Mathematical Model for Mass Extinction". Cornell University. May 20, 1994.
According to the journal Nature, there are 8.7 million eukaryotic species currently on the earth, of which 86% of land species and 91% of marine species remain undiscovered.
What's the fugging point of creating billions upon billions of species only to let them die out? Also, how the heck did Noah cram two breeding pairs of 8.7 million species aboard a creaky wooden box just 4000-odd years ago? If you trot out the "kinds" argument I'm gonna slap you upside the head, though, because that would presuppose hyper evolution on a massive scale.

Is asking questions of logic about a Global Flood effective in waking loved ones?
by BU2B ini was thinking about using a tactic of asking questions revolving around "noahs flood" to try to start my wife doing some serious thinking.
unlike doctrine that cannot often be proven one way or another, this issue can be proven beyond the slightest doubt that it is impossible.. i was thinking about asking a question something like this "i was reading about coral reefs today, and they sure are amazing!
what amazed me the most is how long it takes for them to build the reef, and how long they live!
-

Sorry, but even a highly educated witness can ignore glaring evidence against the flood. Case in point, my uncle has a phD in psychology but consistently dismissed any evidence I brought up against a global flood. The irony is he knows full well what cognitive dissonance is. My dad, too, is a smart man but his answer is always "wait on Jehovah." Sigh.

The End of False Religion Is Near! HAHAHA
by tootired2care inmemories!
i remember a few years back being involved in the campaign work, and having the distinctly awkward experience of having to hand the householders this piece of sh1t tract "the end of false religion is near!"..
i recall the discomfort i had trying to get into a conversation about this nonsense.

Wow, six (well, seven, given that this thread is a year old) years already? I remember the brother (Craig Pollack from Winnipeg) who gave the talk when this tract was unveiled and I distinctly remember his words. He started by sniffing loudly into the microphone and saying "Armageddon is SOOOO close, can you smell it?"
I was technically still in at the time but I couldn't help but laugh inwardly and think yeah, smells like bullshit.

I'm tired of atheist vs theist, let's some god-on-god action!
by marmot ini've noticed that whenever there's a discussion about god or belief on this forum it's invariably the christian god that gets center attention.
why does yahweh get a free pass and all the other other gods get short shrift?.
surely the monotheistic tradition is just as silly as any number of deities out there, i want to see some deist bashing coming from other deists to liven things up a bit.. why should i believe in the god of the bible that made a man out of clay and let a talking snake convince the first woman to eat forbidden fruit over other equally ludicrous creation myths?

More power to ya, I guess. I wouldn't be able to preach lies to people, though. Have you tried other "feel good" churches or religions that don't have all the negative baggage that the witnesses have?

Why do Christians have to have a stranglehold on the whole god concept on this forum? I was born-in to the WT and left because of the silliness of the bible (man appearing on earth only 6000 years ago, global flood, sun standing still, mythical genocides unsupported by archaeology), yet there are many other belief systems out there aside from the monotheistic concept. I don't believe in the Christian God and I haven't seen any other evidence for the existence of a deity or deities actively involved in the affairs of humanity.
