Best of luck. I struck gold with online dating and I've been with my gf (now fiancee) for six and a half years. Turns out she was an ex-jw to boot! I'm an atheist but man, I can't help but think that I must have done something very good in a past life to be this lucky. -

Losing Faith
by cappytan ini've always been a "spiritual" person.
i've been an avid bible reader since as early as i can remember.
i read the bible cover to cover for the first time when i was about 17 years old and have read it at least twice more since then.

It's scary that's for sure. Nobody can tell you what to do and it looks like you've already fallen down the rabbit hole in terms of discovering that the foundations for your faith are worthless, just be prepared for heartache either way. If you stay you'll be eaten away on the inside and if you leave you'll lose all your friends and maybe family.
Do what you feel you need to, I was in your shoes once and I just quit everything at once. The elders turned up once or twice but couldn't be bothered to even disfellowship me. I put everything behind me and moved on with my life, your results may vary.

How do flood apologists explain these?
by marmot inspear points dating to thousands of years before the flood (or even adam's alleged creation, for that matter) found preserved in situ among mammoth bones in naco, arizona.. or the 14,000 year-old footprint of a child at a mammoth hunting camp unearthed in a bog in monte verde, chile:.
the kicker is that this isn't even the oldest evidence for human settlement of the americas.
since the wt loves to trot out frozen mammoth carcasses as "proof" that mammoths died in the flood, who were these mammoth eaters in north america?

Did Noah's "preaching" work extend to North and South America? Is the book of Genesis really bullshit?

Good Netflix shows to watch
by Simon inin the long winter nights you need some good tv shows to watch while you wait for the eternity between seasons of game of thrones.. we've watched marco polo (pretty good) and have just started watching orange is the new black which is not at all what i imagined (didn't know it was funny!).
house of cards is on the list too as we've heard good things about that.. anyone have any others that are worth seeing?.

I'm a Netflix documentary freak. God Loves Uganda and Waiting for Armageddon are two cringe-worthy ones for an ex-jw viewer. I also loved all the PBS Front line documentaries as well as the Cosmos miniseries with Neil de Grasse Tyson. I actually got my JW mom to watch the first couple episodes, hopefully a grain of curiosity was planted.
As for movies, I loved Red State, Oldboy (the Korean original, not that crappy Hollywood remake) and Hara-Kiri.

If you're bothered by god murdering innocent children, you must have a "critical heart"
by OneEyedJoe inthis week's book study contains this gem:.
the way in which the bible is written serves to test what is in our heart.
hebrews 4:12 says: the word [or, message] of god is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit .

DEMONS: the torment I suffered
by Terry inwhen i was in my teens i wanted a room of my own, but i lived with my grandparents whose house was very small.. my uncle had been living in a little one room bed-sitter way out in the backyard.
he married and moved away and i moved in.. it was quite isolated and the ceiling was six feet from the floor.
unfortunately, the top of my head was four inches higher than that!

I'm pissed off with the WT because it made me miss out on some really awesome music for the first half of my life. When I was just starting school one of my friends would bring mix tapes of AC/DC, Iron Maiden, etc. and would wear the band T-shirts replete with skulls and monsters. Being the little witness indoctrinated child that I was I would actually HALLUCINATE DEMONS GETTING ON THE SCHOOLBUS while the mix tapes were playing and I would go home and cry to my mother afterwards.
I'm now a huge metal fan and can only shake my head in embarrassment at those memories.

Will the evolutionists save us from the coming catastrophe?
by abiather inthe earth's magnetic field is in a weakening stage right now.
data collected this summer by a european space agency (esa) satellite suggests the field is weakening 10 times faster than scientists originally thought.
if the magnetic field weakens enough, then the earth could be hit with dangerous amounts of solar radiation and cosmic rays .....

For your reading pleasure: Plotnick, Roy E. (1 January 1980). "Relationship between biological extinctions and geomagnetic reversals". Geology 8 (12): 578.
Cliff's Notes: there are no recorded mass extinctions caused by reversals in the earth's magnetic field.

Again, who says the reversal of the poles is going to be a catastrophe? It's been happening regularly for billions of years. Life continues. -

Of much greater concern to me are anthropogenic risks to the future of our species. And you're still a blithering fool for conflating magnetism with evolution.
