Aside from facile attempts at humor, anything to add to the conversation? I welcome discussion. -

I am a dyed in the wool carnivore. I suffer from cheese addiction. Lobsters are mercilessly boiled alive.
But after watching this new documentary called Cowspiracy on Netflix, all that may change. I had no idea that animal agriculture has even MORE of an impact on climate change than the entire energy and transportation sector. I already take short showers and try to conserve water and electricity and I drive a fuel efficient car, but did you know a 1/4 lb hamburger takes 660 gallons of water to produce and contributes more greenhouse gas to the atmosphere than your morning commute? I didn't.
Halfway through the movie, I thought "Ok, maybe I'll become a vegetarian but still eat fish, that can be sustainable, right?" Wrong. Farm-raised fish have to either eat ground-up protein from the sea (which still kills tons upon tons of wild fish) or soy-based protein from farms, which is tremendously inefficient at converting one type of edible biomass (plants) into another (fish).
I hate to sound preachy, but watch this movie.

Buddhism Anyone?
by LaurenM inso, i have recently been delving in buddhism and i must say it all makes sense!
like, the philosophies and ideas are what i've always believed but could never put a name to.
for example, they don't believe in god, they teach acceptance of all faiths, that peace can be achieved - not by changing other people - but by changing yourself, that everyone has goodness in themselves, that happiness can be gained internally (not externally as a gift from god), and that life is temporary so we should enjoy it!

Ditto what Cappytan said. I'm more of a Pastafarian with Buddha-flavored meatballs. -

What woke you up?
by Israel Ricky Gonzales inin march of 2014, i was a very active jw, a ministerial servant, gave a public talk, was an attendant for the memorial, and one of 4 cleaning captains for an international convention of 40,000+ attendees.
so what woke me up?
an innocent comment from a co-worker about the candice conti court case rang a bell that could not be unrung.

Need the hardest evidence possible that humans have lived for more than 6000 years
by ILoveTTATT2 insince coming out of the witnesses, i have gone through a transformation in thought and in mind.
i started with the usual: i thought that jesus was god.
then i investigated more about the bible and thought that the bible was not true, given the many contradictions, failed prophecies, etc.. then i investigated evolution and read lots and now i accept evolution and natural selection as things that are true.. now, i need to make my dad rethink everything.

Wat?
The ages of the pyramids are well-established, as is evolutionary theory. There is no "controversy."
Stop muddling things.

Here's some great evidence that I like to use. Stone spear points found embedded in extinct bison bones over 10,000 years old in Folsom, New Mexico.

Big Concepts That JWs Won't Even Allow Themselves To Consider
by JW_Rogue inbecause of the belief that the bible is quite literally the word god jws must shut out many logical concepts and theories.
it's not just evolution although that is a large one.
i know when i was in there were certain concepts that made sense to me but i would try not to think about them too much.

Hear hear! I love letting my thought train run wild watching documentaries on string theory, multiverses, the size of our own universe and the like. -

It's a great time to be alive: 'Star Trek Impulse Drive' works and could get us to the moon in 4 hours. Mars in 70 days.
by cappytan inyes, star trek impulse drive was click bait.
but this british designed engine has been compared to that.. interplanetary travel could be a step closer after scientists confirmed that an electromagnetic propulsion drive, which is fast enough to get to the moon in four hours, actually works.. .
the em drive was developed by the british inventor roger shawyer nearly 15 years ago but was ridiculed at the time as being scientifically impossible.. .

Human ingenuity is amazing isn't it? And this is just 110 years after we first took to the skies in powered flight.
Makes you wonder if ol' Jehover is asleep at the wheel or something, since he got so bent out of shape over a bunch of primitives piling bricks too high at Babel.

Earth 2.0 discovered!
by Island Man inhttp://edition.cnn.com/2015/07/23/us/feat-nasa-kepler-planet-discovery/index.html.
this planet is the most earth-like planet discovered to-date.
it's at the right distance from its sun to allow for liquid water and life, and it has a year of 385 days - only 20 days longer than our own year!.
-
marmot
Unfortunately, from what I read the star it orbits is much older than the sun so while the planet might technically be able to support life, its atmosphere and water are probably evaporating. It's a dying planet similar to what the Earth will be like in a billion or so years. -

Jesus Christ explains the particle used in my cosmology theory using parables in the bible.
by Aleon ini wrote a cosmology theory using an expanding particle shaped as a perfect sphere.
in the bible jesus christ speaks of this particle in his parables.
this is good news!.
