The Biblical Flood Thoroughly Trashed
by Farkel inthere are many new ones on this board who may not have seen this.
my old friend alan feurerbacher who has done an unbelievable amount of scholarly research on many subjects must have spent about two or three thousand years researching virtually every aspect of the biblical flood story, and am providing the link to this subject (together with links to other excellent work by him).
it's long and detailed and definitely not for those who get bored with more than four sentences of information and sound bites.

I wasn't planning on going. But that does look pretty awesome! The part about "pioneering glorifies god" - wow. I didn't see that coming. I've been waiting for an invitation to expand my priviledges.
I think all athiests/agnostics can appreciate the program because it appears to have 0 bible based talks! Its going to be 100% "you should do this, you shouldn't do that because we say so".

Here's the reason for the 3% jump in publishers for the past year
by sir82 init is immigration that explains the vast majority of the increase.. who is it that immigrates?
the poorest of the poor, the desperate ones that would be dead from starvation or execution by gangs/guerillas within 5 years anyway.
these were not the ones being converted in their home countries - when you have to work 14-18 hours a day, 7 days a week just to feed your family, there is no time to "study", attend meetings, go out in field servce, etc.. so, they go to their new country.

I thought it was worth mentioning that 30 countries either had a zero or a negative (growth ?)
I was thinking about this. Take for example Poland. It lost about 1000 members. But this was less than 1% so the report shows 0%. If all of those 1000 jws moved to Ireland (and a LOT of them did), then that would be a 20% increase! This is because of our small population in comparison to Poland. I know this doesn't account for the toal 3% growth, but it explains why numbers are rising in some educated areas where you'd expect them to be dropping.

For the society owned facilities the expense is not just for the 2 days. They take the anual expenses and divide by the number of assemblies. I know at least some of these facilites have full-time caretakers on location. These are paid pioneers. So their wages might be coming out of this fund, as well as construction/maintenance costs and utilities for the year. If there are only 4 circuits sharing, and they're paying 2 salaries out of this, then you can see how this might get expensive.
But they don't have paid clergy.

Ireland had a 6% increase, but I can tell you this is definitly due to massive immigration from Poland, Brazil, and Nigeria.

"Ring" or "Knock" ? --- "Once" or "twice" ?
by JH inin the field service, i never rang the door bell.
i would knock all the time, because a person could be working midnight to eight and i could wake them up.
ok, the real reason was that i didn't want them to answer the door.. and i would knock like this: "knock knock knock".......then i'd wait about 30 seconds and then another "knock knock knock" but not any harder...and i'd walk away with contentment.

Tap lightly. . . don't wake the baby!
There was an old fella in the cong where I grew up. He was a boxer when he was young, but now he was in his final years - nearly blind and nearly deaf. But he would knock on the doors with the tip of his middle finger. Old dude was like a freakin rock. His one finger banged louder than I could with my fist.
