Are a lot of JWs lazy? Yes. I have seen it. I have heard them bitch about not having money, and then I offer them a job that they can do and they turn it down.
But, I was a JW and I wasn't lazy. My father is still a JW and he is one of the most hard-working men I've ever known. I've watched him work my entire life. I've seen him work until his fingers bled. He's in his 70s and still working.
I've known (and still know a few) brothers who work very hard and provide for their families. But you know what? The congregation looks down on those individuals because they don't more activley "persue the kingdom"! If you work hard and support your family, then you aren't viewed as spiritual. When I was a young witness, working hard and going to school, I had elders telling me that I should stop working so much and quit going to school so I can spend more time on "spiritual" things. I asked these elders if I quit school and work, who would provide for me? I could live at home until my already elderly parents were dead, but what happens after they're not around to foot the bill for me? Who would pay for my groceries and rent and medical care and my car? Could I turn in a monthly expense report to the congregation? Of course not! So, if I didn't want to be homeless, I needed to develop a skill, get a career and work. They didn't like that. So I told them to kiss my ass.
That was over 10 years ago. I'm a success, and they're still losers. The end.
