What Careers, Opportunities Did you Have to Sacrifice - to be a Witness ?
by flipper ini know this may be an annoying subject .
but if you did have to give up doing what you wanted in a career or opportunity - what was it ?
how controlling was the organization over you, and were you counseled by elders or higher ups to not pursue certain jobs, opportunities, college , etc - so that you stayed in the witnesses for awhile ; not doing what you wanted?

Imagine if private citizens were allowed to carry hand guns in New York City?? I bet NOBODY would get mugged! Guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens is the answer, not the problem.

by Layla33 inhave any of you seen the show, "bizarre foods with andrew zimmern"?

The strangest thing I ever ate.... well.... was my ex!
Anyway, I've eaten shark, octopus, swordfish, aligator and squid. I've eaten Kimchi, which is a Korean thingie made out of fermented cabbage and hot peppers. I know I've probably eaten some other strange stuff, but I can't think of anything else right now.

Daniella, he sucks! What I would like to know is....
How do repugnant assholes like your exboyfriend get sweet, attractive, intelligent women to spend so much time and money on them? Even though you're the one in school and on a tight budget, you spent money on plane tickets to see him! Hell, most men can't get a woman to bring them a beer from the refrigerator much less travel across the country to see them!
Forget about him. My advice is to immerse yourself in your studies and totally tune him out. Change your cellphone number and email address if you have to. It will get better. If you meet a nice guy in the meantime, go for it. It may hurt for a little while getting over the whole thing, but it will hurt the rest of your life if you get stuck with that guy.

Witness Kids - Scared silly by the WTBTS
by misspeaches ini wonder if anyone else who grew up as a jw can relate with me on this subject.. i grew up hearing stories of 'faithful brothers & sisters' being tortured to a point where they were almost dead.
all they had to do to be set free was renounce jehovah and their religon.
the stories i heard of torture were graphic in nature and to this day i can not handle hearing about torture or watch it being portrayed in movies.

I remember.... EVERYTHING was demonic! The Smurfs, Superman, you name it! I spent most of my childhood scared of "demons" that were inhabiting every day items. But, my fears began to fade when we started studying the "Revelation" book. That book was absolutely rediculous in its illustrations! The graphics in that thing were more like the cover of a Black Sabbath album than they were about God! Pictures of demons and death and destruction! Suddenly, the Smurfs didn't look too bad anymore! I think that book is the most demonic thing I've ever come in contact with. The JWs are truly twisted. I'm not scared of demons anymore. In fact, the only entities I find disturbing are the ones I see walking down my street on a Saturday morning. You know the ones.... they have suits on and carry briefcases and they want to save you from demons......

DID YOU KNOW ANY JWs WHO ACTUALLY LIKE BEING ONE ?
by Summer wine inwhat i mean is, ones who loved the meetings and field service.
ones who loved telling a person why they dont celebrate christmas, birthdays etc etc.........................ones who thought it wonderful that their children missed out on so much, and stood out in school and became a target for bullying.. i myself did everthing because i was terrified of the big "a" and so thought everything was worth it.
but i hated going to meetings, hated going on fs, hating not celebtating christmas and never really excepted the birthday thing.

I knew very few who actually enjoyed it. Those very few were actually pretty good people, too. Then there were the assholes who just wanted to gain recognition so they played the game. It wasn't really in their hearts. Me? Well, I was born into the whole thing, so I had no choice. I never liked it, either. A complete waste of my life.

Have U Ever Realized No One Wanted To Work With U In Service?
by minimus inwere you ever out in a service group and either everyone was paired off or it seemed that you were always the last person to be worked with?
(like it kinda made you feel unwanted)......

I usually ended up working with my dad because I didn't fit into any of the cliques at the hall. Everybody paired off and had a good time yaking it up while they walked door-to-door.

Wives be in subjection to your husbands.
Boy, do too many people interpret THAT statment the wrong way! First of all, being in subjection to someone doesn't mean that they must beat the shit out of you. At work, I'm in subjection to my boss, but if he hit me, I'd kick his ass into next week! For someone to truly be in subjection to you, they first have to respect you. Without respect, there is no headship. If you aren't a person worthy of respect, nobody would ever subject themselves to you, nor should they. A man who beats or otherwise abuses his wife isn't worthy of respect and should not hold a position of headship at home, and definitely in the congregation. Now, let's look at the other side of the coin: if you are a Jehovah's Witness, you probably have a good understanding of what is to be expected in the marriage relationship as taught by the WBTS. The husband is to be the head of the family and the wife it to be in subjection to the husband. This relationship may work for some, if not most, of married couples. But, if you are the type of man who can't get his shit together and be effective in the role as described, why on earth would you ever consider getting married? Likewise, if you are a woman who just can't see herself in the role of wife as defined by the "Organization", why in the hell would you ever consider getting married? I think too many JWs make that mistake. They think that just because they happen to set foot in a Kingdom Hall several times a week that means that they have mastered the fine art of marriage by osmosis. It just doesn't work that way. There are many different types of personalities out there, and one size doesn't fit all. Most JWs are in such a hurry to get married to the first person they can get their hands on because there just aren't that many choices to pick from in the JW world. As a result, women get married to men who think that their special position as husband means that they can treat their wives like punching bags. Also, many JW men get married to women who absolutely run roughshod all over their husbands because they know they can, because divorce isn't an option for JWs who desire to remain in good standing with the congregation.
The best advice is to first examine yourself and find out what type of person YOU are and then based on that knowledge find out what type of person you're compatible with and what type of relationship you'd like to be in. Usually, if somebody is in a big hurry to get married, there's usually a good reason why. Usually, that reason is that they want to sink their hooks into you before enough time goes by for you to discover what a nutjob they are. By the time you discover what a nutjob they are, it's too late because you're already married.

I'm pretty ugly. I'm convinced that I'm the result of some sick genetic experiment conducted in the 1970s.
