simons board rules "if you don't like the policies, you are free to leave" sounds a lot like the neocons battle cry of "my country love it or leave it"...the irony is palpablesimon's disdain of american political ideology is understandable.
i remember on my first of dozens of trips to europe, standing in line to board the ferry that crossed lake chiemsee to one of king ludwig's castles.
though we were talking quietly, it became apparent that we were a couple of americans mixed in with the german majority.
By the way, the term "Neocon" is just a propaganda-style buzzword that the liberal left uses to insult those who don't march in lock-step with their political views. It's the equivalent of some right-wing nutjob calling liberals "communists" or "hippie-freak-pinko-fags". That's not very nice. When people want to insult the viewpoints of others or can't come up with an intelligent response to a question regarding their opinion, they resort to name calling.

Why is it that the rest of the world feels that their opinions about the government of another nation should be taken into consideration by that government? Just about every country is sovereign unto itself and has both the right and the responsibility to govern their country however they see fit. When the British Parlaiment or the German Bundestag makes decisions, I'm sure they don't phone everyone in the USA for their opinions on their government before proceeding with their respective decision making processes. I'm sure that if I, as an American, were to travel to Europe and start offering up my opinions on the political processes of the governments of Europe, I would be dismissed as an ignorant outsider who didn't have the understanding necessary to properly formulate an opinion and I would probably be seen as a pompous ass for presuming so much.
International commerce has brought much of the world together on the playing field of the world economy. Just because countries work together toward certain common goals or engage in international trade, that doesn't mean that it is incumbent upon any government to change their government, laws, customs, etc., for the benefit of another foriegn government. To believe that governments all look out for each other and play fair is naive. That goes for my government as well as the rest of the countries of the world.
As an American, I'm always hearing about just how much the rest of the world hates us. I'm not sure how true that is. Just over 1,000,000 people from all around the world obtained Green Cards (permanent alien residency) last year. Who knows how many more immigrated here on various types of visas, or how many more came here illegally. If we're so hated, why is so much of the world's population dying to come here? I know why and you know why. It's because here in America, despite our faults, we pretty much have the best standard of living in the world and we have freedom. When my grandparents left Europe in the early 1900s and stepped off the boat at Ellis Island, they knew why they left their home. Everybody who makes the same trip today knows why, too. My wife, who is an immigrant, will be sworn in as a US citizen later this summer. She could tell you why she's here, too.
So, ,The-Rest-Of-The-World, hate us as much as you want. It's OK. We probably won't hate you back and the chances are that we'll still be here when you need us. As for myself, I try not to hate anybody, no matter where they come from. In the end, individually we're all people just trying to make a living and take care of our families and I don't have hate for anybody who is out there doing that. After all, it's the American way.
first... i am in no immediate danger of starving damn groceries are getting expensive .
as an example... i love breyer's all natural ice cream... .
first...the story of the incredible shrinking ice cream box.... for years and year the box was one half gallon (us)...2 full quarts...then somewhere a couple years back, it shrunk to 1.75 quarts...but in the same size box..... today, i was at the grocery, and seen the stuff was on sale..... hmmmmm...something fishy.... yep... it is now 1.5 quarts.... and i carefully compared the 1.75 box in my freezer with my new 1.5 box.
No matter what types of groceries we buy, I've notice that our grocery bill has gone up about 1/3 this year. We typically go to the grocery store every two weeks. Our typical bill was between $180.00 - $200.00. Now the typical bill is $300.00.
omg..sad sad sad...just heard on radio ...here in canada.......great comedian and anti religious kinda guy...always brought a smile to my face..... http://justjared.buzznet.com/2008/06/23/george-carlin-dead/.
George Carlin was one of my heros. I was watching some of his stuff on YouTube yesterday morning. I didn't hear about his death until this morning. I miss him already.
...losers?

I can't speak for the rest of the world, but here in America, there are more and more men who get well into their 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. who are divorced or never married to begin with. Why? Men are afraid. They aren't afraid of marriage; they are afraid of divorce. They are afraid of getting screwed when their wife wants to dissolve the marriage to go out and "find themselves". For the majority of men, marriage equates to divorce, unhappiness and financial ruin. When they asked the late, great writer and comentator Lewis Grizzard if he was ever going to get married again he said "No, I'll just find a woman I don't like and buy her a house!"
More and more men every year make the calculated decision to not get married so as to not expose themselves to the threat of unhappiness and financial ruin. Does that mean that those men don't want to get married? No, it just means that if 50% of marriages end in divorce, a toss of a coin decides if you're going to get screwed. The lonliness of not being married isn't as bad as the stress, pain and financial issues that are a result of divorce.
Say what you will; those are the reasons why and everybody knows it. Every time some woman files for divorce and says to some 1-800-LAWYER type-person "I'm going to take him for all he's got", somebody is listening. The message is clear; if you get married, there is a very good chance that a woman will be sitting in a shifty divorce attorney's office uttering those very words in reference to you!
Yes, I'm married. Yes, I love my wife. Yes, I trust her. I'm not sour on women, or at least I'm not sour on MY woman. But, it's interesting, even my wife has cautioned her brother about getting married and she has told him all of the things I've just said here. I think it speaks very poorly of our culture that marriage is not taken seriously and that people jump into and out of marriage so quickly. When you get married, you swear an oath before God and the government that you will be by that person's side no matter what. It is a contract not to be breached except by death. Yet, so many people break that contract. That speaks poorly to the integrity of at least one person in that relationship. I think that divorce should be handled differently by the courts. Perjury is a felony. If you swear an oath before the court and enter into a contract and you don't live up to that contract, doesn't that amount to lying to the court?? I think that people who file for divorce for no apparent reason (i.e. "incompatibility" or "I don't feel fulfilled") should have some sort of legal penalty assesed to them. Additionally, they should be barred from ever entering into another marriage contract. Barring infidelity, physical or emotional abuse, there should be no reason to breach the marriage contract without impunity. I think that if this were the case, people would carefully consider the prospect of marriage and carefully examine the person that they are considering entering the marriage contract with.
Nobody buys a house without researching EVERYTHING about that house. Why? Because it is the single largest financial investment a person will ever make in their entire life. I think there should be at least that much care and examination given to what will be the greatest emotional investment you will ever make for life.
So, I've rambled on again for a few paragraphs.
for the last 5 and 1/2 weeks i have been at the gym mostly twice a day except saturdays - i only have one training session.
each of my sessions is at least an hour long but can go for two hours.
i do various cardio in the evenings and do strength training in the morning.
I've always been fat. Notice that I didn't say "big" or "overweight". If I were skinny, I'd still be "big", just not fat! When I was younger I used to work out and my job was physically demanding, but I was still fat. I even set a county record for the leg press and squats when I was in high school. I've never been able to lose the weight. Granted, when I was more physically active, I felt better and I had more stamina. When time permits, I still do a couple of miles on the treadmill at the gym or go hiking with the wife-type-unit on the weekends, but that's about it. Now most of my exercise consists of yardwork twice a week and general crap I clean, paint, repair, etc. around the house. I wish I had more time to take better care of myself. I'm up at 5:30 AM and I get home from work no earlier than 6:00 PM. Between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, I'm usually engaged in some household task like cooking, cleaning, child-rearing, etc. I'm in bed by 10:00 PM so I can get up and do it all over again. If I can find a way to exercise in my sleep, I'd really be on to something!

chinese-made automobile tire valve stems are failing due to manufacturing defect.
as many as 70,000,000 may have been sold to the us.
I try not to buy foriegn made stuff, when possilbe. But, most of the time, it's impossible to do so! My all-American Dodge Ram truck? Most, if not all of it was manufactured in Mexico and Canada. My Levis?? Made in Bangladesh or some damned place. The T-Shirt I'm wearing says Nike, but it's made in Taiwan. My shoes are New Balance, which I know were made in the US. I'm not even gonna guess where my socks and underwear where made! You can't buy a TV or a DVD player made in the US. You can't even buy groceries that were made here anymore! All of the fruits and vegetables are comming from Mexico or South America. That's why every summer we have another scare about some terrible disease emanating from imported produce. This year, Mexican tomatos are spreading salmonella. A couple of years ago, it was spinach spreading E. Coli. The year before that, it was green onions spreading whatever-the-hell it was spreading. I knew my parents where lying when they told me vegetables were good for me! Last year, it was contaminated wheat from China. Just why in the hell are we importing food from China, especially wheat??? Hellllooooo???? WTF?
As I type this on my Japanese-manufactured laptop, I just can't help but wonder just what in the hell we make here in America anymore. I know that even here where I work, we manufacture a product, but many of the parts we used come from other countries and not because of cost, it's because nobody in the USA makes the stuff we need anymore! We HAVE to buy crap from other places.
I think I'll just go home and commit suicide by eating a tube of contaminated, poisonous Chinese toothpaste.
my father-in-law heard from someone who has connections with the higher-ups that the society thinks gas will be $10 a gallon in january.
i'm "bookmarking" that statement on my calendar.
if january comes around and gas isn't $10 i'm going to remind him of "what the society said".
The government can do little to nothing to reduce the price of oil, because the price of oil is determined by a middle-eastern terrorist organization by the name of OPEC. But the government can reduce the price of gasoline. They can eliminate federal gasoline taxes. That would take about 50 cents off of each gallon.
Oh, they can also let the oil companies drill for oil in the US, both on land and offshore, but that isn't an immedate fix because it will take time to drill for that oil. But that would kick OPEC in the balls. Maybe they'd play nice again if we told them that they can keep all their oil because we've got plenty of our own. Or, maybe they'd just sell it all to China. Either way, the price of oil isn't going to go down unless China and India decides that they don't need any more of it!
this is actually hilarious to me.
i am not df'd or da'd.
i just haven't gone for 3 years.. this woman (sister) works at my daughters school.
Personally, I wish everyone at Wal-Mart would shun me. I wish they would all just clear the aisle when they see me comming. Think how great a shopping experience that would be? Sadly, I know this will never happen to me. If it did, I would start shopping at Wal-Mart. I really hate Wal-Mart. It drives me nuts. I avoid it if at all possible.
