they turned their standpoint from "disfellowshipping does not sever family ties" towards "quit mixing with them".
the evidence can be seen if you compare the statements on the jw-media.org website in the beliefs-frequently asked questions section before july 2002 and the hardened statement in july 2002. screenshots of both statements are displayed on watchtower information service.. .

Me thinks a big part of the of the challenge to be seen as a friendlier group comes from the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation's executive's unawareness of how bad they really are.
They prove that by trying to sell their shunning practice to the public.
They don't know they are bad.
I didn't realize it until I was away from the influence of the group for a time.

My gosh! The Watch Tower Corporation is shunning victims and victims advocates. They are seeing human kindness and decency as serious sin.
I revere the advocates and I love the victims. The followers of the Watch Tower Corporation are so much worse than I ever imagined they make me sick.

my sister just called me at work to let me know that her husband (until recently, unsympathetic to her doubts) is thoroughly confused and pissed off by the new 'worship' book!.
he has been comparing it with the 'united' book, has noted the obvious differences (3 missing chapters), and has begun examining it word for word...now he is raving looney about it.. to top it off, they were at bethel within the last few days, somehow ended up in brother larson's personal office, and were astonished to find a model spanish galleon replete with huge crosses, and a huge portrait of good ol' max towering over the watchtower itself.

well, the wts has directed all elders in canada to read a letter concerning the child abuse issue.
it is the same whitewash as read in the us a while back when dateline aired.
it seems that on the 'eve of destruction' (ie bbc and panorama) the wts has decided to read a letter that was obviously penned weeks ago.

So True! So often the teaching or doctrine and the actual practice do not even remotely agree. Take love for example. Society presents Witness people as loving while so many of us are aware that few are actually loving at all. They protect their leader's error and are selfish, rude, snobbish, snubbing, shunning, resentful, controlling, and devious if they suspect we do not partake in their delusion.
They are so self centered that their leaders have to print articles for them to read on human decency and they have to be instructed how to behave in public such as at conventions while wearing name tags and representing their leaders.
The practices and the teachings about the practices do not match.

i want to get one of the ray franz books and casually leave it available for them to pick up.
my mother is not that bright to where she may think its something my dad brought home and open it up.

here is what this "special topic" describes with deadly false propaganda.. "a person might ask why we would single out the witnesses in this matter.
as with other fundamentalist cults, the watchtower goes by the bible advice only when it comes to exposing crimes regarding children or anyone else, that there must be two or more witnesses to a crime.
since abuse and molestation are rarely seen by anyone other than the perpetrator and the victim (and the victim will rarely testify against himself), perhaps hundreds or thousands of cases have gone unpunished, and the perpetrator has not been brought to the police, and the congregation has not been told.
Where is the proof that the Watchtower Book Publishing Corporation is "Jehovahs people"?

Deism was a room I passed through on my way to becoming comfortable with objective reality. From Witnessism to reality was a long trip with lots of stops along the way.
If I would have challenged theism first instead of last, it would have saved me lots of time, and reading.

the wts repudiates the christian principle of "loving your neighbour as yourself " by adopting an altruistic approach which demands to 'love your neighbour above yourself ".
Now I am less intrigued by the original post, (although I do like it a lot) than I am by the response it received.
Requests to dumb down, threats, insults . . . all fascinating.
I was raised by Witness parents and was associated with the group till I was 30 years old and I could relate very well to the article.
The group sees themselves as socially upright. The walkaways / castaways apparently do to. So to suggest that the group is actually inverted socially threatens the dissenters.
