I thank them. They are saying they are having good thoughts for me. It is a compliment unless the statement comes in a condescending manner like when the booksellers would tell me I needed a "Bible study".
Mostly I have felt complemented when a theist tells me they will pray for me. It's like me saying "Best wishes!" to you. I guess it's the context that supports or depreciates any statement.

I'll Pray for you. What's your feelings when someone says that to you?
by El Kabong infor those of us who left organized religion, how does it make you feel when a xtian says they will pray for you because you don't believe the same as they do?
personally, in my opinion, that is a very obnoxious statement, especially if i don't ask or want someone to pray for me.
to me, that's saying that i am wrong and they are right, and they are praying to god that i will see things their way.

Amazing!!
by DIM inwell, now that my wife michalina is 20 weeks pregnant with our first girl (or child i should say), isabelle rose, people who have treated us like we are dead for the last 15 months are coming out, pretending to be our friends all of sudden.
even people we considered friends when we were in pa who have basically shunned us want in our lives now - of course - we are having a baby!
this religion and people within it never cease to amaze me.

Congratulations! I'm sorry such a happy event has to have sort of a down side.
Will you welcome them back in the fold? Or do you wonder if they are just positioning to have access to another future recruit.
I gave my parents full access to my sons and they used that access to influence 2 of my 4 sons into working for the publishing corporation and following the corporation's shunning policy. I had not done any exit counseling or challenged my own flawed core beliefs early enough to know to keep relatives who are also recruiters for a high control group away from my family.
Best wishes, gary -

Three Things Witnesses Will Admit
by metatron inso, the organization never makes any mistakes, the elders are appointed by god, you should attend all the meetings.
because "it's the truth", blah blah, blah.. .
in my experience, as long as you're not too aggressive about it, there are three serious problems in the organization.

Hi Rebel,
I was a silent, believing walkaway, not disfellowshipped. I was known by the majority of the Corporation's agents here.
In November of 1992 I had been out of town for the day on business and when I got back I went to the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation sponsored assembly on Sunday afternoon to pick up my wife and take her to dinner.
I got there early and sat through the last hour or so of their meeting. When the meeting ended, all 600 people there got up and made a line to file out the door. I stood there by the line to watch for my wife and all 600 people filed past me without looking at me or without saying one word to me. I knew over half of them. Many of them were my relatives.
Which one of those 600 would I not have contempt for?
I'm not critical of your acceptance of members or your ability to separate them from their group. Your experience with them was / is different than mine.
Every day on my way to town I drive by a grave on a hill. Every day I look at the picture on my wall of my 4 sons and am reminded that two of them shun me by order of the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation. Every day I am reminded in some way of my parents and their last comments to me. I still hear their door slamming behind me.
I view them like I view Hitler's SS. Were some of them decent, misled people? Maybe! Did they support a system that hurt people? Yes! Do I have contempt for them? Yes! If they leave the SS and make amends for their crimes and start to treat me, and people who are important to me, nice, will I view them different? Maybe. Will I ever really trust them? Possibly.
Some of my best friends and favorite people are former Witnesses. Some post on this list.
Do I have contempt for all believing practicing Witnesses supporting a system that has not been good to me? Yes! Do I want to be friends with them or live with them? No!
Thanks for your replies. I appreciate them. -

Sentinel, You wrote:Say, just what kind of person was he anyway????? He must have been a JW for sure.
He had just graduated from university with most school and living expenses paid by me and he was looking for an excuse to dump me out of his life and the Jehovah's Witnesses gave it to him. He is a JW of the worst kind. He has disowned us for a religious book publishing corporation of a secular nature, prone to speculation and error. I am glad to be rid of him. The family is much better off without him and his condescending attitude. I have more time and recourses available for the two non-JW sons and their families.

Rebel, you wrote:I don't know anyone who objects to their family members mixing with JWs or even becoming a JW.
I object . . . . because I have been there. When my wife was a practicing JW I didn't even have a marriage. I had a live in book salesperson and a part time cook and almost no company as she was gone to publishing corporation sponsored activities or to private social things that I was excluded from. If she had continued, I would have sought other living arrangements.
When my sons started practicing, they started to snub and shun me while they were living with me and while they asked me for favors and money. Based on my past experience, I would never want to live with a Jehovah's Witness ever again.
I don't know anyone who dislikes JWs.
I dislike them very much. I dislike them more than I dislike any other group in the world. I have nothing but contempt for them and their book publishing corporation. They have cultivated me into their enemy for life by their dishonesty, their fatal medical advise, their protecting their errors and omissions, and their treatment of me and people who are important to me.

I asked my Witness son about all the wrecked Jehovah's Witness families, including ours, and he quoted me a scripture and it said Jesus came to wreck families and since our family was wrecked by the Jehovah's Witness's interference, that was proof that they have the right religion and it was Jesus that wrecked our family. -

All the Corporation's meetings focus on the books / writers of the books
by garybuss ini have been to lots of sales meetings and sales training sessions and they are exactly like the watch tower publishing corporation's franchise book distribution division, jehovah's witnesses, meetings.. .
all the corporation's meetings focus on the books or the writers of the books.
the books are all written about the writers of the books and how all prophecy and all history relates to them.. .

Putting on the NEW personality
by Lady Lee inthis whole concept of putting on the new personality when one becomes a jw is a lot more serious than most people realize.
people truly develop a second personality.
this personality is child-like and obedient.
