What did you think about "apostates" when you were JW?
by Albert Einstein ini spent 17 years in jws, first 11 were very zealous.
i feel very stupid now to admitt - but until several months ago i really believed "apostates" and all people who left jws were kind of arogant, nasty, agresive, proud and i was afraid of getting in touch with them.. i remember finding coc book in a bookstore and (since i was very curious...) i touched it (with a great guilt feeling), opend it, and read it for maybe 2 minutes.... i was so afraid it will affect me somehow badly .... and that i will displease god by doing it .... i felt so bad by sining this way .... now i see there are more kind people among those who left, than in wtbs..... i started meeting some "apostates" in my town, i see they are more reasonable and often more spiritual than jws ... it is like coming out of the darkness ...... could you believe i was such an idiot?.
what about your experience?.

The Samaritans are apostates. Don't the JWs teach that there are good apostates? There's a picture on Watch Tower Corporation's wall showing Jesus talking to an apostate. What's up with that?

"But Mom- you raised me to serve Jehovah no matter what"
by JimmyPage ini had an interesting experience over the weekend.
i took a couple of my in-laws on a trip as a present.
unfortunately they wanted to attend a meeting while they were out of town.

My parents taught me to seek out the truth although I'm quite sure that they didn't know that's what I did when I looked into the Watch Tower Corporation and claims made.

Do You See Communism as a Threat?
by sammielee24 inthis was an interesting article (part of it) from the bbc website.
sammieswife.. fists in the air.
lined up on a set of steps near the diet, wearing suits, red sashes and beaming smiles were officials from the japanese communist party.. they joined the protesters chanting and raising their fists in the air.. the communist party has always had a surprisingly large role in japan, the world's second biggest economy.. but while it had been fading towards irrelevance, now as the recession bites it is on the rise again.. the party already has more than 400,000 members and people are joining at the rate of 1,000 a month.. in comparison, the membership of the liberal democratic party, the largest member of the governing coalition, is twice the size.

I see the United States' version of a "republic" form of government as corrupt, outdated, and unreliable. In this age of instant communication, we don't need representatives. We have the ability to run a real democracy. That would be fun to watch.

I give up. Maybe they don't like a bunch of people they don't like sitting behind them. That'd be my reason. -

$6,600 Expenses For a One-Day Assembly At a Fully-Paid-Up Hall? WTF!
by Room 215 inthe wife just got back from a one-day special circuit meeting (or whatever they call it) at the regional assembly hall.
it's got a capacity of about 1,200, fully paid for, staffed by volunteers and in use for less than eight hours.
then the guy making the announcement tells the crowd that the one-day expenses for the gig was about $6,600 (?!!!)...

The nice thing about donations . . . is they're voluntary. No Witness I know paid one cent they didn't want to pay.

You wrote: ". . donations are presented to the publishers as expenses related to the cost of having the assembly."
That's what they are . . . to the publishers. Cash is the key to the kingdom. -

Turds float to the top in the pot. There were always floating turds in the Watch Tower and they're still there. No difference. They still stink too.

is it really worth trying to change their minds?
by homeschool inafter reading steven hassan's book, i really believe the jw's are in a high mind control group, like so many other cult-like religions.
one point stuck out to me though....hassan said he will not do interventions if the purpose is selfishly motivated.
i don't know why, but it's made me question some things.

is it really worth trying to change their minds?
For them? Or for me? For them . . . I don't care. For me, it's never in my best interest to get in a pissing contest with a skunk. I insist on spending my time with people I like. I insist on doing things that I enjoy. Debating with some weasel word Witness doesn't do it for me.
By the time a Witness gets around to asking me questions, their mind has already changed.
