narcissism is a term of psychology/psychiatry characterized this way.. has a grandiose sense of self-importance .
is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love .
believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by other special people .
Hi Terry et al.
If you have read, Mao The Unknown Story by Jung Chang, it is intersting that he denonstrated many of the characteristics you talk about.
Mind Control.
The almost total disregard for the welfare of the followers.
Anti education & cull of universities
Intolerance of oposing views
Ruthless supression of information (injw speak internet)
The consequent impoverishment of the people.
I could go on, but you get the picture. The theme is familiar to us all, sadly
The book is btw quite prescient when thinking about China now, and its relationships with the West and in particular with the US

Good post Terry.
I always thought narcisism apllied at a personal rather than at a group level. I do agree with your argument though.
I always felt odd preaching though. I felt we never ever taught, how could we, because to teach implies means we have to listen?

ive noticed some terse and almost nasty comments on here lately..are we all taking our meds and all?the one cool thing about this forum was the lack of ugliness and name calling.now,it seems to be leaking in..im sorta new here.does this happen on here every year when the sunlight starts to diminish?there are forums where the heated jab and stab thing is appreciated and lauded.hope this isnt becoming one.i am very thin skinned.
"cant we all just get along, man.ok?
"..no,really.im seeing newer posters taking some major liberties in the name calling.and meanness department.is this what we want for our wonderful, supportive, slightly twisted forum?..dont be mean to me,im just asking...
I am new here too. and found people very kind to me. I do also know that some have had a hard time on certain issues, which was uncalled for. I believe that those who have been unpleasant will be shown up for what they are, and we can continue to be a happy community

i'm not after a discussion on the rights or wrongs on abortion, what i'm asking is whether or not your views have evolved over time.. perhaps leaving the watchtower was enough to allow your true feelings on abortion to find expression.
maybe abortion is one of those subjects where you still find yourself in agreement with your old jw self.
did becoming a mother change your perspective in any way or solidify your views?.
Correction to above post 'the doe not have to make the decision.. Sorry!!

B_Deserter.
I appreciate where your coming from, the problem with your analogy is that whatever happens only one person will ever to do time. The guy does have to make the decision and be left with the consequence
Btw i do appreciate how civilised everyone has been on a very difficult topic

I am on balance pro choice. I think as mentioned by eclipse that abortions 12+ weeks are difficult to justify though not impossilbe. I do not think that men have the right ot legislate on it, If any men is against it let them stay at home and take the place that usualyl falls to women. I think these career orientated legilators might have second thoughts.
ps In the UK we have just revisited this and.our Government has decided no change, they allow abortions up to 28 weeks.
