Tax collector or publican
by jacethespace inluke chapter 18:9-14 says- 9 and he spoke this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others 10 two men went up into the temple to pray the one a pharisee and the other a publican 11 the pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, god i thank you that i am not as other men adulterers or even as this publican 12 i fast twice in the week i give tithes of all that i possess 13 and the publican standing afar off would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast saying god be merciful to me a sinner 14 i tell you this man went down to his house justified rather than the other, for everyone that exalts himself shall be abased and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.. now to be fair i have met some people in the tower who are generally humble, but i was wondering out of this parable who does the rank and file jw and governing body, elders, circuit overseers basically follow after.the tax collector or the lowly publican?.
i mean it is certain that the watchtower does despise others [ worldly, etc] and they do generally have the tax collector attitude of " i thank you god that i am not like other men.and a lot of them are anything but humble and abased.. this is evident even in the ministry when i was out there were some that would leave the houses muttering " its there funeral at armaggedon.. one elder even said once to me that the best part of the truth is that the wicked dont have a say in whether there going, jehovah will just remove them whether that want to go or not.. what do you think?
who does the tower represent the tax collector or the publican?

Is the NWT really the most accurate translation of the Bible?
by godsgurl ini have heard jw claim that the nwt is the most accurate translation of the bible and the persons who translated the bible were inspired by the holy spirit.
but if this is so then why was the nwt revised so many times?
did the holy spirit get it wrong the first time?

Ive examined the NWT with the king james version and was suprised to see how slanted the new world translation is.When i was questioning the elder before i left i told him i had gone back to the king james version and all he could say in an arrogant way was " but our translation has jehovahs name in its right place.

How we are dealt with when doubts arise
by jacethespace inwhen ive had doubts about the tower before i left, the elder i spoke to always kept saying that he would have to let the presiding overseer in the cong know about this, even when i said i didnt want anyone else to know.i was wondering what goes on when the po gets to know this and why do they do this does anyone know?
also in the past when i have expressed doubts they always suggest a visit to " encourage me" and then two people turn up usually an elder and presiding overseer.to me this feels like intimidation.and i have told them as such.. also when after the meetings the elders meet together will they discuss things about me amongst themselves?.

Can you say SATAN?!?!
by Uzzah inwhat is your stance on the devil, satan, demons etc?
personally i find the concept of the devil as presented in scripture to be purely symbolic of humankind's ability to chose to do good or evil.
the development of a moral compass unique to each person.. with many ancient beliefs, people tried to humanize concepts in order to better understand.

JWs Use A "Very Powerful Weapon" to Silence Ex-JWs
by AuldSoul ininsight on the scriptures volume 1,p.787expellingone who was cast out as wicked, cut off entirely, would be considered worthy of death, though the jews might not have the authority to execute such a one.
nevertheless, the form of cutting off they did employ was a very powerful weapon in the jewish community.
jesus foretold that his followers would be expelled from the synagogues.

It seems to me that the watchtower is no diffrent than the all controlling catholic church during the dark ages that would not tolerate anyones opposition and tortured and put them to death for speaking out against the church.
I think that if it was allowed the watchtower today would point to the scriptures under the mosaic law and have opposers put to death as well.

Yep the internet gets a bad rep for some reason in the tower.I was looked upon for quite a while by some in the cong as being the son of molech or something as soon as i got a computer and the internet.
Along with stupid probing questions like " who do you speak to on the web cam then eh"
When i had had enough and decided to get out of the indoctrination i let it slip to one of the elders i know that i was talking to this hot girl on the internet just to piss him off

Were you ever afraid of demons?
by Regretful_J inhello everyone, my story is a unique one i suppose but here it goes.,, ever since i was a little boy whenever i would voice my objections about this religion my parents would tell me im making satan happy and that i'm inviting demons into are house by saying and thinking things like this.
my parents are such religious fanatics that it seems like nothing i do can ever be good enough for them.
to this day they always claim that they come down hard on me like this because "they're trying to protect me".

I always found it funny when we were told in the tower that now we know the dead are conscious of nothing we are free because we dont have to fear being haunted.
I always thought " Yeah right, now were just scared that some evil demons are going to come and destroy our lives and minds for all eternity.

I remember those meetings with the watchtower studies on sex going into great detail about all the right conduct and wrong conduct in front of little kids too what iresponsibilty. And how half the congregation was trying to contain their laughing and sniggering in the hall.Even the poor watchtower reader was trying to put on a straight face. And then the older men within the cong making long winded comments on the study going into all great detail and i dont think i was the only one that was thinking " shut up you stupid prat".

Help needed: Killing the 'The light gets brighter' argument?
by jah1914 inso after the revelation study last night where the paragraph was talking about how russell's interpertation of revelation basically didn't work and got discarded, my wife comments with the same old,"the light gets brigther, that's why i respect fds because at least they will change when they figure out something is wrong.
" (insert vomit here) afterwards, me and the book study conductor(i have to at least give him credit, he is someone i can talk to freely about my questions and he has not,as of yet, turned me in) got into a discussion of what 'the light gets brighter' really means.
he basically says so the brothers have made changes, so what?
