  To SO CAL: What CO's and DO's do we all know?

  okay, in order it goes like this for me............brother peace 1980-83, brother rose 1984-86, brother yasko 1986-88, brother sekella 1988-91, brother billy ford 1992-95, brother davis 1996-99, brother irskin 2000-03 and then it gets kinda blurry....brother burge and another, brother hairston.

  okay, that just about does it.

  i have this topic becauce i tried reading the favorite co and do thread, but did not recognize any names......

  Does anyone remember a CO from the 60's-70's who was short, Italian and single? He served the LA area. He was hilarious...hiding people's doormats and leaving handbills in every imaginable place. He was one of the few "fun" CO's I ever worked in FS with. I think he finally got married and left the CO work. I wish I could remember his name...

  Oh wow, I was a kid/pre-teen in So Cal (Redondo Beach, Torrance) during that time, and distinctly remember a CO the way you describe. Sorry, I'm racking by brain but can't come up with a name. Too bad my older, still-in sister won't talk with me, as I bet she remembers his name.

  The only names mentioned in this thread that ring a bell (sort of) with me are Peace, Kite, Kormendi, and Sunudko.

  In this forum, I saw the Japanese letter (character) for the first time.

  Are Japanese letters displayed similarly not only with my PC but with other persons' PC?

  Actually, Possible-san, I couldn't get the Japanese characters to appear normally. I believe there are encoding limitations on this forum. What you see on my post is actually an image I created through MS Paint. (here's the file: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3423/3216812725_7876abd4b9_o.gif). I was just trying to experiment with this because I think Romaji is ugly . Perhaps there is HTML code I could use to get the correct encoding?

  Anyway, I think forum members may be uncomfortable with non-English posts, so I try to limit them.

  the new net site is working well, but i have noticed that when posting some typeface comes out looking like the fine print on the back of a credit card statement.

  assuming baby j travelled out of the birth canal on 25th december then on the 1st january his little foreskin would have been removed.. what a feast!

  as i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.

  it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

  The Reason ex-JWs Don't Communicate Well With Others

  i've been giving this a lot of thought.

  i'm thinking that, as a born-in, i was raised thinking that everybody who wasn't a dub was stupid and i had to go door-to-door to enlighten them.

  and that the ones who were so stupid and stubborn as to not respond to my message (which was all of them, lol!

  Jeremy, I've tried to discuss this with my Dad but he doesn't "get it." I'm one of six children. Three of my siblings are Dubs, three of us are out. My dad is not a Dub, except by association with my mother, which affects his mindset considerably. Anyway, he can't understand why his children don't come around him and visit him and have a strong sense of family. I've tried to explain to him that, being raised as Dubs, we had to try to distance ourselves from him emotionally because he was not a Dub and was going to be destroyed at Armageddon. We were taught to distance ourselves emotionally from all non-Dubs. Even when you're no longer a Dub, it's hard to learn how to embrace and be close to people because, even with the Dubs that you loved and cherished, you were trained to watch them with a suspicious eye and tattle on them if they did anything of which the WTS didn't approve and were taught to be prepared to switch off your heart if the person were, heaven forbid, DF'd. I feel Dubs are trained from birth to keep all good, strong emotions at arm's length. I guess I'm talking about the conditional love. But when you've been taught so well how to love conditionally, it's difficult to train yourself how to act differently.

  Thank you StAnn; what you said just switched on a lightbulb in my struggle to understand myself. I'm a born-in, who finally left 9 years ago. I've never understood why it's been difficult for me to get very close emotionally to people, even relatives. This gives me a lot to ponder.

  WT backtracking fast on Book Study -High Gas Prices

  so tonight the congregation discussed the front page of the october km -the new meeting schedule.

  straight away it was emphasized it was not because of high gas prices that the meetings were being reduced.

  it was pointed out that in parts of the world the brothers do not have cars so it was not high gas prices.

  With more and more Witnesses able to access information on the Internet, questions and doubts about the organization will rise exponentially. It seems that VM44 is onto something when he says: "Whatever the reason, The Watchtower does not want small groups of Witnesses meeting in private homes to study Watchtower publications. What could this real reason be?"
