HA HA, we used to do this also, years ago. Wow, what memories.
The only one I can remember now went something like "Nothing is sacred but a woman with a shorn head." That may not be it exactly, but it was something like that.

Very interesting; thanks for posting that.
Factoid from the article:
One of the big differences between ASL and many other sign languages is that ASL primarily uses only hand gestures, whereas most types of sign languages, such as BSL, rely heavily on facial expressions and other physical expressions outside of hand and finger gestures.
I studied ASL for 2 semesters in college, and we were constantly reminded that our facial expressions communicated as much as our signing. I observed the reality of this from deaf people while communicating with them.
In your opinion, Iamallcool, is the above quote correct about ASL? -

My 14yr. old daughter started "early college" this week
by Indian Larry ini finally found one good thing about growing up a witness and not getting to go to college.
because neither my wife nor myself ever went past high school that makes our daughter eligible for a program sponsored by the bill and melinda gates foundation.
she is 14. in 4 years from now when she should be graduating high school she will have two years of college under her belt, at no cost to me.

Congratulations Larry! I'm so glad I got out of JW-land before my kids were high school age. My two youngest also went through the same Gates Foundation early college program in northern California.
My son just finished his first year of university (UC Santa Cruz--go Slugs!). Because of already having received college credits while in high school (FREE through the program) he'll be getting his BS degree in just another 1.5 years. He'll be saving time and student loan money.

Were You Ever Comfortable Going From House To House?
by minimus inbecause i was raised a witness, i don't think i was "uncomfortable" knocking on strangers' doors.
(weirdo).. but as i got older, i simply didn't want to bother anyone so i was at there door for no more than 30 seconds.
at the end i hated being there..

I was born in and did field service because, well, that's what you were expected to do. I never felt comfortable with it, even though I was a regular pioneer for a year.
I did look forward to early morning streetwork coffee and donuts with my pioneer partner, though -

Sparlock spotted in Taiwan
by Steve_C inno, not 'made in taiwan,' but actually in taiwan.. i thought you might enjoy some photos of yours truly engaging in heathen activities while wearing my new sparlock t-shirt.
i'm not really a taoist/buddhist, but sporting the warrior wizard shirt while burning incense in the temple made me feel like some kind of naughty double-apostate .
the one-hundred+ year-old wu fu ("five fortunes") temple, near my apartment.

Getting ready to pray at the first of six altars.
Praying for more hair. My only hope is the combined powers of Asian gods and Sparlock
Offering the incense after praying.
My friends praying at one of the interior altars.
After visiting the altars, it's time to burn symbolic money for one's ancestors. It's sad that so many of us burnt up real money donating to the Worldwide Preaching Legal Retainer fund.
If you'd like some more information about this temple, including some cool interior shots, here's a nice blog entry I found.

Excuse me, but isn't this the 21st century?!
They had booked their wedding far in advance. The invitations had been sent, the programs printed. But one day before Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson were to be married at the Mississippi church they frequented, they said a pastor told them they would have to find another venue -- because they were black....
