How I obtained my personal files from Bethel
by jwfacts init has taken me a long time, but i have finally put together an article outlining how i used the law to force bethel to send me my personal files.
it is a very long article full of scans, so i have linked to it at http://jwfacts.com/watchtower/experiences/personal-files-privacy-act-1988.php.
in brief, in 2006 i requested that bethel send me my files on the basis that the australian privacy act 1988 entitles people to receive a copy of any information a corporation holds about them.

@Scott77, Taiwan is actually my adopted country; I'm beginning my third year here. I'm originally from the U.S.

I miss my Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer 2
by garyneal inwas reminiscing with a friend on facebook about our past and the thread concerning windows 7 got me thinking about the hours i spent writing programs for my trash 80 computer.
any other nerds like me who miss the old hardware?.
or does anyone miss anything from their younger days (not necessarily computers)?.

Ah yes, 1981: I'm a senior in high school, and we nerds hung out at the Computer Club at lunch and after school. I have fond memories of the Trash 80s, BASIC, cassette-tape memory, and our modem looked like this:
I miss text-based adventure role playing games.
Me too. I remember we could play those games with other users (I don't think it was called the Internet back then, but I don't remember) and we had to communicate via line printer.

What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

I was born in, but didn't get baptized until I was 20. Went to my last meeting in 1999, age 36 (faded, not DF or DA, but mom and sister shun me. Eh.)

For born ins- what tipped you off it was wrong
by teela(2) inat a young age i remember watching tv and commenting why is the red cross always helping people and we don't.
the second big one is if the witnesses only started up in 1890 - 1900 did jehovah not have anyone else doing the preaching work?.
as a child i don't think we think about theological problems so what tipped you off?

A number of things, some of which I'm still discovering, led me to leave after almost 40 years of being a born-in. Specifically, though, I'd have to say cultish, mind-control tactics such as:
1) Discouragement of higher education and looking into non-JW literature, including studying Biblical Greek and Hebrew.
2) Disfellowshipping, especially by family members.
- If I were to move back with my mom, she could talk to me about anything except spiritual matters, because "being disfellowshipped does not sever the family ties, normal day-to-day family activities and dealings may continue." However, once I move out, all contact is stopped except for "rare, necessary family matters." How has moving down the street changed my status as her son?
