Anyone that says mom and dad are going to die because they aren't JW's are poison to kids.
I would get DF'd in a heartbeat if that was the consequence of keeping my kids away from the religion. Oh, wait. They did DF me for that! I taught my kids to think for themselves and to find their own path in spirituality. And I was DF'd.
And I would do it 100 times over again. In fact, I wish I had wised up long ago and NEVER exposed my kids to the damaging trash.

The only problem with letting someone so strong in the religion study with him, is that he will not get an objective lesson. He will hear the rhetoric that is repeated, and that we heard as kids.
I would personally study with him yourself. Study all the materials. But objectively compare it strictly to the Bible, and ask those probing questions.
If Grandpa does it, he will have literature and Bible verses bent to suit the needs of what is written there.
I did that with our kids, when we were leaving. It did get a bit hard, because we really couldn't find Biblical backup for many things in the literature.

It is the parent's job to teach and train, not the grandparents. I know that they are told to try to train grandkids if the parents are slacking, but it is mom and dad's responsibility. Whether Grandpa likes what you are teaching or not.

a friend is being hassled by a body of elders to go to a judicial committee.
i have advised against going but if they go ahead.... the question is are you entitled to have a representative of your own at a judicial committee?.

That's what I keep telling them when they call me. They also asked me if my husband would meet with them. I said no. They wanted to hear it from him, so they wanted to call him. I said go ahead, but let me listen on the other line!
Learn, learn anything. I have a new job and I crave learning everything I can about it. And everyone else's there for that matter.
Find something you like and become the master of it. Learn it inside and out.

I think I am here and have the people around me that I do because of things in my past I wouldn't change if I had the chance.
And even though I don't have a clear view of the future, I know who will be by my side when the future is now.
I have debated the "if I could go back and change.." different idiot moves on my part. I do have one time period of about 6 or 7 months that I would like erased. My actions caused nothing but pain to everyone involved, and I didn't learn anything from the whole fiasco. Except to not repeat it. But I could have looked at other people working at ruining their lives to learn that.

the sister who studied with me is older and she's been having a very hard time getting around out in service, i heard she was ill so i called her and this morning she came by my office and we started to talk, her kids have all moved away and she's lonely, going out in service is hard for her but she tries her best to get out there, she asked me if i would consider a study with her and i said yes.
i miss her terribly, she's the closest thing i've had to a grandmother and i adore her, also i'd rather she be with me indoors instead of walking around house to house when her legs give her so much trouble.
You can keep things neutral. Focus more on visiting and latest news from family. That's kind of you to do.
We were out in service when I was small and we went to the door of an old lady. She had just fallen. She had been a widow for decades and the nephews she raised moved away. We kind of adopted her. I'm sure our visits started off like RV's, but soon she was Grandma. She was at my wedding. She never became a JW, we never became Mormon. But we became family.
