I have held my tongue thru all the bashing on this poor woman. Let me add my bit, as I know first hand. I was her and I made the same choice she did. I also would have left a husband and two precious children. What you may not understand is that she felt she was doing right. I was faced with die now and be with my kids forever as a reward for being faithful, or compromise and live now. And then be killed by a vindictive God for disobeying him. Would you rather have forever or a few dozen years? I wanted forever with my children. When you have a belief battered into your brain for YEARS you begin to believe it. I have no doubt she wanted forever with her kids too. Maybe she felt as I did,"I can provide a good example to my kids and fellow Witnesses. Maybe the hospital will learn something in treating me." Maybe she didn't have the opportunity to think anything, maybe it all went down too fast. We don't know.
Yes, I hate the Society for making this an issue and for killing innocent people. Their blood is on their heads and they will pay. Yes I am mad that intelligent people blindly do what they are told, without using their God-given brains. But none of us should ever forget that THIS GIRL DID WAS SHE THOUGHT SHE SHOULD, SHE WANTED FOREVER WITH HER CHILDREN!! Please don't judge her unless you have faced horrible choice yourself.

Growing a Beard.
by Priest73 inso, why is it that we (xy chromosomes) feel obligated to grow beards once we leave the org?
i've had a little 'chin' beard for about the last 8 years, but every year in november i try to grow the whole thing out... but inevitably i fail miserably.
maybe my facial follicles are still jws.

My husband officially has a circle beard, and we've been calling it a goatee all these years. Shame! He started growing his hair and beard the day he left the borg. His hair is 3/4 down his back and his circle beard is so long that when he rides is Harley he has to tie it. I personally like it.
At one of the last meetings I went to the brother said one of the first signs of a man leaving was his growing out his facial hair. I thought it was meeting attendance, service, etc. I guess I'm wrong.

I LOVE where I am now, about 30 miles North of Nashville. I just had a doe in my backyard. We have a beautiful home that they will carry me out of feet first! But a summer home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming would be nice to have.

Are there things you can't get rid of?
by faundy infor instance, i still can't bring myself to say 'bless you' when someone sneezes.
i still cringe when saying 'good luck' and even now i feel i am being really naughty when shopping for a birthday card for someone.

A&W:Now I decide what is truth and what is acceptable.
So true, that may be the best thing for me about leaving. My husband and kids and I make our own decisions, without unwanted input. If we decide to not do something it is simply because we don't want to.

If I am disfellowshipped, will my family get disfellowshipped they...
by LayingLow ini have some family that would continue to associate with me even if i were disfellowshipped.
it is known by them that i am not truly an apostate (from yhwh and jesus).
i have come to a different conclusion than them after three years of intense activity at the hall.

Laying Low,
Welcome to JWD. There are several instances of families still associating with disfellowshipped ones. I think they just can't discuss spiritual matters with you. My dad was DF'd and I still associated with him, not often but I did.And he had been an elder for several years. I have also read that exerpt from Pay Attention. Some of your family may choose to speak to you some may not. It is a difficult situation because the info that pubs get is different from what elders get. So it may depend on the attitudes of the elders in the cong.
I have been fading too, but just quit altogether last month. May I suggest getting friends that are not Witnesses, so when the time comes and you are out you have a good support system. I can't tell you how much this helped me and my 3 kids. Besides having holidays and no more meetings, they have really not been affected much. My sister is in your situation I think. She really does not want to get DF'd or DA herself. And she has several in her hall calling her. She just avoids them. All she told our Mom was that she wasn't going to be going to meetings anymore. Simple. As an adult you really don't need to explain yourself.
I really don't care if I am DF'd and may DA myself. It is just judgement from men and I answer to God. My mom doesn't know about me yet. I moved to another hall last year and they don't have my cards. I went to meetings for a while, but no service. No one has called me, I thought they would when they saw the Halloween stuff up, but no.
I know I didn't offer much on the "rules" of DFing, but look at some of the old posts here. They will more than likely give a clearer answer. Just know there are others here facing similar situations.
