Accessibility to guns to blame for violence?

with all the talk about the increased violence in schools and among society, it still surprises me that the accessibility to guns argument often tends to trump the cultural argument.. maybe i'm out of touch but showing saw iii uncut on hbo at 10pm and releasing the most violent video games in history and the marketing of violent and perverse music, these are the things to me that desensitises young people first and then may trigger some hurt and unstable kids long before they go and buy a gun.. okay, ready to be blasted (pardon the pun)!.

Accessibility to guns is naturally a factor; if guns were inaccessible to people, gun violence would certainly go down.

But let's not confuse accessibility with legality.

The criminalization of gun ownership has little bearing on their accessibility.

Hey... drugs are illegal... that sure keeps them out of the hands of our citizens, doesn't it?

Taking away our rights to bear arms to try to prevent violence is like... well, it's like something that's a good analogy. Maybe it's like a ship "tacking" back and forth in the wind....

One thing I do know. If everyone in that school in Illinois had been armed, there would have been no massacre.

Attempting to further criminalize weapon possession is useless. The arguments are tired but absolutely true. Outlaw guns and only outlaws will have them. Think that someone willing to shoot up a school is going to be stopped by a LAW against getting a gun? "No but it'll make it harder." No it won't, because there are plenty of ways to get the goods illegally. Here's an undeniable fact... if the OTHER people in the schools had been armed, the carnage would have been far less severe. It is true I am advocating an armed society. But the alternative is what we have, the violent psychos have the power and the "normals" are weak and defenseless. Then they cry when exactly what you would expect to happen happens. Also there's that whole crazy "personal freedom" concept that someone put in our constitution. Hey, I figured this post was a quick way to gain some popularity. ;-) ::duck::

I watched two of the videos... it's been two years since I last bought anything the WTBTS was selling, and it's amazing the repulsion I feel watching these. Like a physical reaction, heart rate goes up and everything. Feels like falling back into the pit you finally managed to climb out of.

anyway, i have lurked here off-and-on for a while.

as i stated a couple of days ago, i am impressed with the level of knowledge of many of the posters on this board.

Hi OMG, it would be hard for me to agree with you more, especially the part about the organization apostasizing.

Before I really started looking for anti-WTS material online, when my concerns were raised only by the WT's own statements, contradictions, and weirdnesses, that's exactly what I suspected.

Like you, I thought, every time God has had a chosen organization, it went bad, and the individuals needed to have the insight to disobey the organization and stick with God.

I even went so far as to discuss this very subject with some family members, like when they would make a particularly mind-controlled comment like "Well we'll just have to wait on Jehovah." Fortunately it never got beyond that, except with one person who I was actually able to deconvert.

It is very reassuring to know there are other non-psychos out there who felt the same way... assuming you're not a psycho, of course.

I am also in the "in the closet" club... only the person I deconverted knows my true feelings, and I'm just trying to figure out a game plan for the others I care about. After that, the org can do what they want to me.

BTW, I should just point out that your user name and avatar have spiritistic overtones and promote the Babylonian teaching that souls live on after death. I may have to "mark" you until it's changed.

Sumerian texts and the Bible

i have been doing a lot more research lately on the issue of religion, its beginnings, as well as civilizations, namely the oldest known culture of sumer.

i have posted some other findings on the relationship between yahweh and satan, and the indication, according to the sumerian texts that they were brothers.

it is also interesting to note that most of the initial creation stories, and flood stories, are not unique to the jews but are in fact a rip off of the sumerian texts - which predate any other civilization.. as we all know, the "new testament" does not contain the jewish name of "god" or yahweh.

If in 6,000 years the Bible has become so corrupted from the true version of events, and you feel better about getting your info from the presumably more accurate Sumerian texts, and they tell you that King so-and-so reigned for 38,000 years, doesn't that pretty much blow out of the water any chance that your Sumerian texts are not equally corrupted?

After tens of thousands of years, does it really matter if one story is a couple millenia older than another? They'll both be in pretty bad shape.

a question on a recent application that my husband filled out for a state job, substance of question was: 'are you now a member of or have any affiliation with any organization or association that inhibits you or prevents others from the practice of their constitutional rights?

' while jw membership is essentially voluntary, when you think about it, in what ways do their rules impede the constitutional and civil rights of its members?.

their anti-gun/anti-every-form-of-self-defense policy is one.

That is a very odd question. We all have to give up our constitutional rights at times to get along in society.

You want to go to college? Well, just try to bear arms on campus and see what happens!

Want to keep posting on a message board? Better keep your comments acceptable to the board owner!

i'm not sure if it was mentiopned.

but i think that we are talking about not just one call from each person, but we are talking about spending a good length of time calling repeatedly.

othrwise it just won't have much of an impact.

#1 My time is more valuable than theirs and I will not exchange my time for WT time unless I am getting a damn fantastic exchange rate.

#2 I could give a crap about anyone in the org other than my family and a few friends.

#3 It won't make any difference in what they're doing and will continue doing.

#4 They don't control me anymore.

Those of you who plan to participate, I'm wishin' you the best, but it seems like a lot of people are ignorant about it... maybe it'd be best to take another week to better advertise it and get some decent participation?

yep, there's no excuse for any of you lot.. if a sister of 106 can auxiliary pioneer last memorial season, so can you.. this ancedote was in the jan km - puke making - what the heck was a 106 year old doing going from door to door, and i mean this literally, not just phone witnessing.. have these people got no sense?

i mean 106 years old and making 50 hours a month - for what?.
