  Erica's Dateline interview

  others on this board have mentioned that the jw's have dismissed erica's interview as "lies" because she wore a cross.

  i didn't even notice the cross as i was busy concentrating on what she was saying.

  however, in dubville, one must quickly discredit what a perceived opposer is saying or doing.

  German Branch celebrates 100th anniversary

  in 1902 there was an office in barmen-elberfeld (today a part of wuppertal) distributing watchtowers and russell's books.

  so, the german branch celebrates its 100th "birthday" this year.

  last weekend there was a so-called "day with open doors" (tag der offenen tur, quite common in germany) when the public was invited and anybody could come and take a look at the facilities and eat and drink.

  Dateline in the UK?

  forgive me if this information has already been put out but what is the situation for us brits wanting to see the dateline show?.

  i've got the full sky digital package and see that dateline goes out on channel 510 (cnbc) but there is no clue as to our show.. any help?.

  I don't have the digital CNBC package and MSNBC has just become a German internet program. I mailed NBC (USA) about possibilities to watch Dateline in Germany but got no reply.

  Application of "Two Witnesses" Principle
  Mr. Brumley: While the assertion has been made that Jehovah's Witnesses take no action when an allegation of child abuse comes to the attention of the elders unless the accusation is verified by two separate witnesses, and that's just simply not true. The elders are vitally concerned with the welfare of the congregation. And if even
  one credible allegation is made of child molestation, and that comes to the attention of the elders, they immediately investigate the situation, and they immediately take steps to see to it that the victim is protected. Now in addition to seeing to it that the victim is protected, the elders will meet with the accused and find out what he or she has to say about the situation. In those cases, they also
  contact our headquarters to receive any recommendations or advice that we may have. Where even one allegation is made of child molestation, steps are taken to see to it that the authorities are also involved.

  Perhaps where the accusation comes up is in the setting of what we do internally as an organization. Now there are clear Scriptural mandates about keeping the congregation clean and undefiled. The elders work very hard to see to it that those who practice such things are not part of the organization. If an allegation is raised against a certain individual, elders will meet with that individual to see if he wishes to confess or see if he wishes to seek the help of the elders in any way. If two separate witnesses raise an accusation against an individual, and if it is
  found that the practice is going on and he is unrepentant, then the individual is dismissed, or disfellowshipped, excommunicated, from the congregation.

  The difference then lies in what we do with regard to legal requirements and protecting the victim. Those steps are taken even if only one individual raises an allegation of child molestation. On a separate matter, disciplinary steps are taken
  if two witnesses raise an accusation against an individual suspected of being a child abuser.

  A Time to Reveal a Confidential Matter

  Keeping certain matters confidential can mean the difference between peace and contention. But is there a time to reveal a confidential matter? Note what the prophet Amos says about his God: "Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets." (Amos 3:7) From these words, we can glean something concerning confidentiality. Jehovah may keep certain matters confidential for a period of time and eventually reveal them to some individuals. How can we imitate Jehovah in this regard?

  At times, the appointed shepherds in the Christian congregation find it beneficial to keep a certain matter undisclosed. (Acts 20:28) For instance, with the benefit of the congregation in mind, they may decide to keep the details of some arrangements or changes in congregation responsibilities confidential until a specific time.

  In such a case, however, it is important to make clear to those who are involved if, when, and in what manner the matter is to be revealed. Knowing when a matter will be publicly disclosed may help them to maintain confidentiality. - Proverbs 25:9.

  So what is the point here? If the point was to tell the Elders that "it is important to make clear to those who are involved if, when, and in what manner the matter is to be revealed", IMHO a BOE-Letter would be more sensible.

  To me, this short article is just intended to emphasize that "confidential matters" in the congregation are "beneficial" and only "with the benefit of the congregation in mind".

  Maybe this has something to do with Dateline when many JW will get to know about confidential matters that were never intended to be revealed.

  If you live in the United States and you have German ancestors that left their home country in the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century it is likly that they left Germany via the harbor of Hamburg.

  The City of Hamburg has begun to scan all Emigrations Lists.

  4 Reasons Why WTS is Doomed

  Very good post.

  But one remark about food at assemblies: in Germany they used to serve food at the assemblies for ca$h. There was a brochure for those responisble at the assemblies that stated that the money for food (and for parking) should be more than the actual costs so that there was some money left to finance the assembly.

  German governemt found out and took the Society to court (must be in the 70s) because they were (and are) excempt from tax paying. But if they are gaining money from selling food they have to pay taxes. They lost and had to pay more than a 1'000'000 DEM by a date.

  They presented the facts to the congregations that they did not have the money and so money was collected for this special reason. (This was the only instance in Germany so far that the WTS said to be in money trouble.) They were able to pay the fine.

  So the fact that there is no more food at the assemblies is not to cut cost but a further reason for their money problems.

  when the new song book "sing praises to jehovah" was introduced from the great publishing company in 1984, it was clearly and frankly admitted (suprisingly) that some of the old songs had to be dropped due to the fact they were copied from other religions and some even infringed copyright in this regard.

  however, from an early age "we thank you jehovah" had always reminded me of "god save the queen" and this song was not dropped and continues to be regularly used down to this day.. i realise in later life that the two songs are indeed similar in a musical sense.

  you can almost play one song on top of the other in places and the starting chord structure is identical.. also, the two songs both seem to have a certain feeling of reverence which i am not sure is conjured up by the timing and the harmony alone or by the meaning the songs have in terms of their lyrics and use.. it turns out the british tune has been used many times over by different people and even by other countries, as european visitors to britain in the eighteenth century noticed the advantage of a country possessing such a recognised musical symbol - including germany, russia, switzerland and america (where use of the tune continued after independence).
