My situation is as follows: I used to be a fourth-generation-JW on my mother's side. My mother has a brother that used to attend meetings in his youth but stopped later. He has never been baptized and later married a "worldly" woman. As long as my grandmother was alive we only met when he was at my grandmother. The last time I saw my uncle's familiy was at the funeral of my grandmother more than a decade ago.
There is no contact at all between my mother and her brother despite they live in the same town. The reason my mother states is that they do not have very much in common without the holidays when "worldly people" meet and his wife is told not to like the JW very much.
My point is now: how can I approach a relative I have no contact with because he decided not to be a JW? To me it seems that nobody ever said "We are going to have no contact" but it just happened...
Any ideas or experienced in similar situations?
I already thought about sending a Christmas-Card or a birthday card. When I asked my mother about her brother's birtday she would not tell me... -

Did You Ever REALLY Love Jehovah?
by minimus inwitnesses are taught that they must love their neighbor and jehovah god.
when persons fade away or leave abruptly or get disfellowshipped, you often hear this statement:"well, they obviously never really loved jehovah anyway"........looking back, can you say that at one time you really did love jehovah?

I think I have never had a real relationship or even love for God. At some time I felt special being part of the JW organization. I followed the rules. Not out of love but because there were rules to be followed.
Must be a typical German thing. :-) -

Good to see that you are still active. I remember your first steps from h20 - the days when I was a WT-apologetic.

Society and AIDS
by eyeslice inthe aids epidemic is proving to be one of the most difficult and dangerous issues facing mankind at the start of this the 21st century.
especially in sub-saharan africa are the difficulties and problems of aids combined with poverty most apparent.
the numbers of witnesses and indeed the growth rate of the witnesses in many of the countries most afflicted by aids appears to be good.

I had this conversation with a CO years ago, when the AIDS question was introduced for baptismal candidates. He explained that they were asked and if they carried the virus they would be baptized after all other persons.
I, too, said that it is impossible to infect thru water and that it was a kind of stigmatisation but he said it is done not to offend the others. -

Well, time for an update.
At the second meeting, a lady from KISS was there to give us some hints how to organize the group. At the very beginning, the door opened and several people came in. We were so many that I thought some were in the wrong group and would stand up when JW were mentioned. But they all stayed. :-) So, we were 15 in attendance at the second meeting. The consultant shortened her presentation so we could get to know each other quickly.
Fortunately/unfortunately now I got a new job and have to move to another area. But there are other members continueing the group. *sigh*
We already got in contact with some reporters. The Internet is a very useful tool but you need the papers to reach those outside the internet. -

Are you serious about this?
Alton Williams is a JW and he at least used to work as an Associate Profesor at the Alabama A&M University for phsicis. He was/is a part-time professor and a pioneer.
I translated the title of the article from German. Maybe it is slightly different in English.
"As told by" means he was interviewed by Awake!-authors that twisted sorry wrote the article.
It is a five pages article about Williams. The part about 1914 is found on page 20+21.
