  Relaunch of "My Book of Bible Stories" in Germany

  from the german infolink-board: at this years dc in germany the wts announcend that they are going to publish a new version of "my book of bible stories".

  one of the reason is the recent change in german orthography that is going to be implemented.

  but there shall be also some changes in content.

  I Have Finally Sent My DA-Letter

  i finally did it!

  after 3-4 years of being inactive i wrote a da-letter and faxed it to the headquarters of the "christian congregation".

  i am planning to be more active in helping ex-jw and i have become a member of the newly founded "netzwerk sektenausstieg" (cult exit network) in germany.

  I finally did it! After 3-4 years of being inactive I wrote a DA-Letter and faxed it to the headquarters of the "Christian Congregation".
  
  
  I am planning to be more active in helping Ex-JW and I have become a member of the newly founded "Netzwerk Sektenausstieg" (Cult Exit Network) in Germany. Since I do not want to get kicked out I rather prefer to cancel membership myselfs.
  
  
  For decades, German JWs were not members neither of the WTS nor of the local congregations. This has changed in 1999 when they gave each publisher a letter stating that they formed a new association (called "Religious Community" like the "Christian Congregation" in the US) and that each baptized JW belonging to a congregation automatically became a member of that. We even had to sign our Publisher Card to agree that the Elders are collecting personal data.
  
  
  Okay, now I wrote the letter stating that I never agreed to becoming a member and that I want to get out of it. I also demanded all my data to be destroyed (incl. my Publisher Card) and withdrew my signature that gave them the right to collect any data.
  
  
  Now I am looking forward to their response.

  I take this as a reason for - sad as it is - many JW use this book to teach their children how to read.

  Protecting your kids

  just saw a great news report on how to protect you kids from predators.. it all revolves around a code word.. you and your kids agree on one.

  if someone different is to pick your kids up you give then the code word.

  if they don't know the word then the kids know that you did not send them.

  In German we have (like the French) two kinds of "You" one for closer people ("Du") and one for people we are not so close with ("Sie") also related with different imperatives.
  
  When there are people nearby it makes a difference tp them if the kid uses "Du" or "Sie" in "Leave me alone!" So, it is obvious that is not a familiar person the kid is struggeling with.
  
  May work in some other languages as well - but unfortunately not in English.

  The JW are struggeling to get the status of a public body here in Germany and child rearing is one of the attacks they get. I wonder if this is the reason they want to change the contents.
  
  Is this a German project or has anyone heard of a new edition of MBoBS?

  great question as i have always wondered about quite a few of our screen names.

  as i was reading the responses, i looked at holey cheeses - king of the juice's avitar and thought about how i have been wondering for the past three years, what the hell that is a picture of.

  Is The Watchtower Organization Thought Of As An American Religion?

  while we all know that the jehovah's witnesses are found throughout the world, someone once told me that in other countries the governing body does not carry the weight that they do in the united states.. do you living in germany, france, uk, australia, etc.

  feel that was the case?

  to me, it seemed that such persons as the australians were such a 'gutsy' independent, wild west sort of culture that would question authority more so than say a u.s. witness.. is this primarily thought of as an american religion by others?.

  Yes, JW are commonly seen as an American religion like many strange things that come from the US.
  
  
  But we Germans (in general) like to follow rules and look up to authority so I would not say that the GB had less importance here in Germany.
  
  
  Actually in the beginning Germany used to be the biggest branch after the US.
