i have been reading and investigating matthew 12:1-8. jesus is accused of breaking the law of the seventh day of rest, the sabbath.

he defends himself and then caps the discussion by declaring himself to be "the lord of the sabbath.

" since only yhwh was ever known as the lord of the sabbath (the one who created, owned, and received worship on the sabbath) i can find no other valid meaning for the title jesus gave to himself, except that he is calling himself god.. what meaning does the wts put on this title, since i know they are not willing to allow jesus to call himself yhwh?.

sir82, that is a good question. I did not mean that the exact wording was applied to YHWH in the OT, only that YHWH was the only Lord ever to have been said to be over the Sabbath, the creator of the Sabbath, and to whom the Sabbath was dedicated. All of a sudden Jesus is claiming HE is the one who created the Sabbath and that He is the Lord to whom the Sabbath is dedicated.

but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD [YHWH] your God ; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. (Exodus 20:10)

then he said to them, "This is what the LORD [YHWH] meant: Tomorrow is a sabbath observance, a holy sabbath to the LORD . Bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over put aside to be kept until morning." (Exodus 16:23)

Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a sabbath to the LORD [YHWH]; today you will not find it in the field. (Exodus 16:25)

If Jesus did not mean to say that He was that same Lord over the Sabbath then what did He mean by calling Himself the Lord of the Sabbath?

Only God can "break" that Law and NOT die for it, no?

No. Jesus said "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath...it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath" (Matthew 12:10-12 excerpt). So, Jesus said that healing and saving life was not the kind of work that is forbidden on the Sabbath. So no, Jesus did not break the Sabbath and needed no special title to do so. I do not think that is at all what He meant by calling Himself "Lord of the Sabbath."

Is what PSacramento said really the official WTS explanation? If so, did they really expect people to buy it?

mine .... simply put, god is the invisible power which decides when things begin and end, who and what recieve which assets and/or liabilities, and how rewards and penalties are metted out according to a judicial system of which humans have no input, appeal, or even full comprehention.. and yours ....

If God has revealed Himself in the Scriptures, then He is the Creator who loved the creation, died for the created beings who rebelled, and will one day cause the created beings who believe in Him as Creator and Savior to live with Him for an eternity.

Every creationist is free to develop their own philosophy and religious convictions. I would not try to impose myself as either a spokeman for or authority in the place of any other creationist.

"After its kind" does not necessarily mean a law of immutability between present-day defined "species." The phrase may simply have meant that at the time of creation and at the time of preservation (the phrase is only used through Genesis 7) that trees would still produce seed-bearing fruit, birds would still lay eggs, and cattle would still bear young. In short, it may have been a simple statement of affirmation that life would go on replicating life in spite of the dramatic events of the moment.

It is probably a stretch to think that the phrase means very more than that.

On the other hand, it does imply that the origination of each kind (vegetation, birds, mammals, humanity, etc.) was a rather abrupt and instantaneous act of creation. So, let my ridicule continue...sigh...

Christmas Tips

do you tip your mailman, newspaper, oil delivery persons?

if so, what do you normally give?

who else do you tip?

It is illegal to tip government employees (better to just bribe them outright), so do not tip your mailman.

It is no longer considered the norm to tip national chain delivery persons (e.g. Fed-Ex, UPS, etc.). Mom and pop deliveries can be tipped. Pizza guys must be tipped 1 or 2 dollars (I think it is a law under Obama-care or a mobster thing...).

Trash haulers used to come by the door every year to get tipped...that is no longer true.

Newspaper delivery persons: yup, tip 'em, $5 minimum, cause you don't want to know where your paper will be thrown come December 26 if you don't.

JW soliciters should never be tipped or they just keep coming back, and back, and back...

Warning: tips should always be in paper currency and never in the form of milk and cookies, Santa is very earnest about that...

Santa Claus

i was thinking about if i should start telling my 2 year old about santa claus.

after realizing that i've been lied to my whole life from all the jw bullcrap should i lie to my child about santa claus?

do you think its ok to say, "be good or santa wont bring you any toys this christmas.
