Governing body member engaged... Again!

just found out that the australian governong body member known as geoffrey jackson got engaged to a sister about two weeks ago.

it really shocked me at first but then i remembered how other members of the gb have remarried in the past like daniel sidlik.

what made me say "woah" was hearing that the holy bride to be is really young!

I read this post and was wondering why is there a problem with consenting adults deciding to get married.

I have been dating my wonderful boyfriend for almost 2 years and he's 60 and I'm 44 yrs. I love it...it's the best relationship I've ever had. He's mature, not worried about career issues, he's financially stable, his children are grown, he's sexy and science created options for men that enables them to enjoy life until the very end...lol

And I don't blame the ladies..if I'm going to be bored silly with JW ish...may as well marry the old heavy hitters and see the world for free.

Boy I have something else to be Thankful for....Glad I'm no longer a Witness...the scrutiny that you have to deal with.

more haphazard thougths on the recently concluded elder school..... a big chunk of time was spent on a video which traced a judicial case, all the way from the confession to the elders through the decision to disfellowship the guy.. here is a very brief synopsis of the video:.

tearful late-teen or early-20's publisher confesses to 2 elders that he committed fornication with a "worldly girl" who is now preganant and wants to marry him.

the elders give him some "homework" to do prior to his judcial committee - read psalm 51 and an old wt article.

This video brings me to my judicial meeting after I gave birth to my son out of wedlock. They asked alot of questions, such as how often did I have sex, what type of sex.

And the final questions, was I going to continue to see my son's father. My answer was yes...and I was advised that I should discontinue the relationship in order to get back to Jehovah. I responded, that I was not going to stop my relationship, because I definitely need him more than ever..because I'm pretty sure I'm going to be disassociated (was not baptized). They said, not necesarily we have to pray over it and get back with you. I told them not to worry, because I would not never be coming back to the KH ever. (lol...I wish I would have stuck to this declaration)

...any how it's really sad that they would not help out the young man with his immediate need. To prepare for an upcoming child.

God I'm so glad that I'm free from this organization.

I think this video is very dangerous because it make the elders think that 5 minutes of scripture will heal 1 years of grief....or many years of grief, depression, marital problems, etc.

I know this type of thinking was the reason why I suffered from depression. I carried so much guilt and shame because reading the WT, going out in field service and never missing a meeting did not instantly make me feel better.

alot of members don't have a flag or country name beside their user name, and well frequently one doesn't know where that particular person is from, tell us your country, state, county or what ever you feel like giving out.

if you are going to post please at least devulge your country.. me, i'm originally from taranaki, new zealand via auckland.

for the most of this decade i have been living & working in brisbane, queensland, australia.. .

Was it EX JW literature / WT's or the BIBLE which woke you up? Post scriptures if any....

i considered myself immune to ex jw stuff.

no amount of old watchtowers or anything would change me.

it was seeing treatment of others by elders and the bible itself, which woke me.

I woke up after my sister was disfellowshipped. She had been disfellowshipped for sexual issues...that definitely screamed that she was dealing with something serious.

She was going to the meetings, trying to get reinstated. My son was 3 years old and when he saw her at the KH, he ran up to her and said TT where have you been, I want you to come back to my house. (before being df she would visit almost daily). Well my sister with tears in her eyes, told my son that she could not talk to him. He started crying why....so when I looked into his face and was about to explain why, I started crying.

I immediately told my sister to let get out of her right now. So we went and discussed what she was going through. We located a therapist and during helping her with her sessions, I realized that I really was depressed and needed therapy as well.

Long story short...from this situation I have 3 siblings and all three of us are disfellowshiped, disassocated or faded. Two and myself now identify ourselves as Christian and one agnostic. And we are very happy. Our parents are still JW (father Elder) and many other relatives still devoted JW .

And it's so funny....we all could care less about what the JW believe. We still have contact with our parents and just avoid any discussions of religion. We are very blessed, to have parents that love us more than the religion.

WingCommander most Churches have a educated councelor on staff at the church.

No disrespect to anyone who is currently an elder. I do not mind the scriptural counsel, but it definitely should follow with Sister Cookies, what resources do you have for professional help. You may need more support that we can't handle.

When You Were Sitting During The Meetings What Were You Really Thinkng About?

i used to listen to all the stupid comments and wonder if i could sneak out of there and scram!

even after i resigned as an elder, i went for a while and eventually began missing more and more meetings.

but while i was there, i'd listen to comments, chuckle to myself how dumb it all was and then go home with the knowledge that my days were numbered there..

I was always trying to fight sleep. No matter how much I rested before the KH...I always fell asleep.

At the end I would look around and wonder how can I endure this the rest of my life.

And there was this one sister who was always smiling...I would look at her and wonder what is she smiling about. I still wonder if she was on some good medication. She was a beautiful sister and so was her husband and they were always so happy. I bet they were high.

talked to wife about new light!

i showed my wife the new light, it did not go over good.

i started with all the publications and asked her three questions 1 who is the fds 2when did they start 3 when did they get appointed over "all the belongings"?

using the recent publications she said 1 the fds is 144000 2 they started in the 1st centry 3 they were over all belongings in 1919. then i showed her the annual meeting report on the jw.org and went over each point.

The best way to help a JW. Is to live a happy and properous life. This will get her attention.

When I first started finding out about the truth. I was so angry and felt it was my right to tell my family about all of this knowledge I was finding everyday. It made them very scared and upset. But I was fortunate because my brother was raised a witness and was just 18 years old and knew that he did not want to take the dip. So I had him to vent to...he had started college and started having a normal life. So he said, by dear sister, you left the JW...but you are still behaving like one. Why is it your RIGHT to tell people how they are suppose to live. Get out there and start living yourself.

This makes me laugh today. I'm 14 years older than my baby brother and he gave me some life changing advice.

Long story short. I started doing things I always wanted to do. First I started with just watching TV show on meeting nights. Then I joined by kids PTA, then I started my own home based business. I visited a different church for a couple of months. etc. etc. In the end I started living and doing things that I wanted to do.

I did what you call a fade. And it's so strange...because I'm openly and actively involved in my church. Tell all of my witness family and friends how proud I'm of my son who just completed 4 years of service in the Army. Brag about how wonderful my baby son is doing in College. I'm very active politically.

So I recommend...dealing with yourself. Being in the JW faith takes alot out of you and leaves you with alot of life to go out and enjoy.

I wish you and all the exJW peace on the long journey of finding yourself again.

I received a vist from 2 sisters and a little 2 year old toddler about 2 weeks ago. My son said mom I think the mormons are in the neighborhood, the are getting out of cars. I started laughing...my parents are very active JW's with my father being an elder and my son did not know that this is how JW complete their preaching work. I said son those are JW. He was so excited to open the door because we never had a visit from the JW before.

So we both answered the door. The younger sister asked do you believe that you can live forever. My son said yes. She was very excited that he was ready to engage in conversation. She ask how, he stated it can happen through reincarnation, going to heaven. Then she asked me, I said I definitely believe in living forever by going to heaven. I'm a born again Christian. So then she was ready to open up her bible and then I stopped her. I said that I know of the JW beliefs very well. I was born and raised in the religion, my parents and lots of family members are still very active. I even let her know tht my father was an elder. She asked if I was baptised...this is where I did not tell the "Truth"...lol. I told her no..because really I do not count the JW baptism as being baptized. But the truth I was baptized, but have never been disfellowshipped and I'm very open about my Christian beliefs.

She then asked why did I not accept the JW faith. My son told her that I did, but because of my sister being disfellowshipped and the treatment that my sister received, that I quit going. She said that we should come by the hall and visit and ask if I would like a Bible study or for her to stop by for time to time. I politely declined and said that I did not understand freedom until I was released from the bondage of the JW beliefs. She was a little silent and the older lady then asked if we were interested in the Watchtower and this article about school for my College son. My son was happy to receive them and asked if they had a cost...she said about the donation. He gave her a dollar. She asked again about if we wanted a return visit...I told her we did not want to waste her time, that we were very happy in out beliefs. But when my parents come to visit we will make sure to let them know where the Kingdom Hall is located. We live in Texas and there really are not alot of Kingdom Halls. She gave us her telephone #, my son said give it to my mom..because I'm not taking my grandparents to the JW Church..it's a little too relaxed for me. My son is 18 yrs old and he joked you guys need some good music in your church and a preacher to get it going. She laughed and then asked him when was the last time he visited a KH...he said I must have been around 8 or 9. She asked why didn't my parents take him...we both laughed. They were probably afraid of me commenting about how much I love Christmas and just do not understand a religion that don't celebrate Christmas. This was something that my son has and still tell my parents all the time...(now it's a family joke).

Anyway...it was a good visit. I don't feel it's my job to tell them about their religion. But it's definitely my job to let them know that I'm very happy with my beliefs.

shawn, it's very difficult & sad to come to this decision, but because of your attitude towards the truth & us personally (thinking that we are stupid) we're going to treat you as a disfellowshipped person from now on.

actually, you're worse than them because usually they know they have not kept their oath to jehovah & don't speak abusively of the organization and don't turn apostate.

How are about keeping your views to yourself. I would not deny or would I try to convince them that they are in a cult.

She is old and she is probably happy with her choice of faith. Let her enjoy her faith and you enjoy your life and your choice of faith.

I think as ex-jw we find ourselves in the same frame of mind as JW's we feel it's our right to tell people the truth. I was the same way when I first left the organization. But now I realize he person is responsible for their own truth.

So to keep your lively hood....especially if you enjoy. I would just stay away from religous conversations.
