Poor elders wives are often under so much pressure to set an example, be on time for field service, have their husbands suits perfectly clean, wait in the car after meetings with tired cranky kids when he's busy with spiritual matters must not complain and on it goes.............my husband is now able to give his undivided attention to our children as a person..granted post cult a person still formulating ideas but still an authentic man. -

My husband left before me but remained a good, loyal and loving friend and he says would have still stayed had I remained firmly entrenched as a 3 rd gen witness. Being the spiritual head of the family didnt make my husband a better man. In reality the GB are the real dictators of the family and rule with an iron fist , Nice to have them out of our life and bedroom now. Leaving and becoming his own man did. Last I checked doesn't seem to be demonized (big fear) and we still have a good moral code and ethics. -

Dr. Marlene Winnell writes in article 3 on Religious Trauma Syndrome that A religious counselor will redirect a client back to the religion, typically with biblical guidelines to repent and become more devout. The client suffering with RTS is then likely to try harder to meet the impossible demands of the religion, much like returning to a situation of domestic violence. They will do this because of the authoritarian nature of such counseling, but fail again and feel hopeless or evil or crazy. No one concludes that it is the religion itself, which is at fault. (And religious counselors often have very little training in psychology while getting exempted from standard licensing requirements.) http://www.babcp.com/Review/RTS-Trauma-from-Leaving-Religion.aspx

The JW cult mindset provides a fantasy of love, family, friendship and life. But has no substance. Real life, marriages and friendships can stand difference, robust debate if shared with mutual respect and love. Unfortunately, WT simplistic comic strip dribble, hinders converts emotional and intellectual abilities and (keeps them easy to control) and encourages very limited expectations of quality of life.................One of the hardest things to do post cult is to learn to THINK............... -

The problem with holding religions to account for their crimes.
by smiddy inlately we have seen governments from all parts of the western word challenge religious institutions on a variety of issues .
such as tax status , charitable status , child sex abuse by religious institutions , etc.etc.. just how effective these investigations are or will be only time will tell.. their are many factors that will influence the outcome.. politicians make up the government , human beings make up the politicians , and the politicians have their own personal beliefs .
and the electorates these politicians represent are made up of people with their own religious preferences ,and the politicians need to keep in favour of their electorate to remain in office.. and lobbyists whether religious or otherwise do influence outcomes .an elected politician wants to hold onto his seat , his job , his income.. the australian royal commission into institutions of child sexual abuse gives me hope that these concerns will be addressed .. i can only hope so , not just for the jehovah`s witness children who have been abused , but for all children who have been abused ,by all institutions secular and religious .. smiddy.

The court of public opinion also holds sway. hopefully, a better informed public won't see witnesses as such harmless door knockers now.
