Own up time...
by Chalam inwell it looks like this site is a real melting pot, a broad spectrum of views and beliefs.
for sure there are many disaffected ex jws.
so in as few words as possible, preferably not more than one sentence, how would you describe yourself spiritually?

i personally could never bring myself to do it.

Never went out on X-mas, but did on Thanksgiving. I distinctly remember going to a house in an affluent area of Ardmore and having a middle age man come to the door. In the background you could see people gathered around a large table laughing it up, a large spread of food and OMG Alkyhall, a bigscreen TV with the Cowboys pregame, and the guy at the door. The man opens the door, and kindly greets us. The brother I was with, who by the way was convicted of indecent exposure a few years later, goes into the standard "Isn't the world an awful place, under the current system of things?" bullshit. I will never forget the look on the mans face, or what he did next. He didn't get angry, and he didn't speak abusively. He smiled at us in the way that you might smile at a child speaking nonsense, he almost imperceptibly shook his head, and slowly closed the door. I swear the man almost looked sad when he shook his head no. For some crazy reason, that image hasn't left me, even though it took place 20 years ago.

Well, it didn't go down as I thought it would. My Grandmother stayed home because of work, so possible disaster averted. My mother stayed with us all weekend though, and we had a good long talk about a variety of subjects, and generally enjoyed each others company. Thankfully, the entire weekend was very anticlimactic.
Thanks for the well wishes all the same, and Merry Christmas to everybody in the JWD family.

I guess "spoiling for a fight" wasn't completely accurate. I'm not wanting an arguement with my G-ma necessarily, but I'm aware that this will probably get back to the BOE, and as far as they are concerned...well, need I go on? Seriously, I care for my G-ma very much and don't want to do anything to hurt her, but I don't think she's gonna feel as cheery about the whole thing as I do. Thanks for the advice and the good wishes, I appreciate them all very much.

Always thought it sounded cool.

Balanced!!!
by barbar inthe witnesses often talked about being balanced, but usually that meant do less of what you wanted and more "theocratic" things.
in fact if you spent 100% of your waking time in the ministry you would probably be viewed as a balanced person.. come to think of it witnesses are very unbalanced or extreme in their views.. any examples of how they are unbalanced?.

I once watched a MS feed his children raw fish at a Witless get-together, because we might not have fire to cook our food with during the great tripulation.

On Monday morning, I'm going to receive a visit. The visitors will be my sweet mother, who's OK with my views and agrees with many of them, and my Grandmother, a faithful, hardcore J-dub. I haven't been to a meeting in about 4 months. My mom knows this but my G-ma doesn't. To top it off, I've grown a little bit of a beard in the past couple months, Read C-of-C, and have been on this board. To put it mildly, I'm spoiling for a fight, a little nervous about it, but not in the mood to back down. Maybe nothing will happen, I don't really know, but whatever does, I'm willing to face the consequences. I think. Well, I'll let you all know how it turns out on Tuesday. Wish me luck people, I'm afraid I'm going to need it.
