JG: From what little I know of you, I respect and admire you ...but I feel I must say something...! ;-)
A heathen didn't molest me for 12 years.
A heathen gang did not beat me up for not following God's rules.
A heathen did not kick me out of a job for not being a good Christian.
Supposed followers of the Christian God did these things to me.
And these are just the issues off the top of my head.
Heathens tended to my physical and spiritual wounds. I like Heathens.
As always, of course - your mileage may vary.

I am having a bad day
by Vivamus init is wearing me down.. my constant companion in life, my skull-breaking- mind-blowing- daily migraines finally got the better off me six months ago.
i broke down, i cried and cried and cried.
not only cuz of the pain, but more for the fact that painkillers were not helping me anymore.

Dear Viv: It's hard to appreciate anything when you're in agony! Good things remain, good people are patient, we will be here through the pain and on the other side...

A subject that rages on in various threads here.
God allows it for some reason that we cant really fathom, but somehow that is part of his plan.
I do not accept that. If the typical Christian God exists, he has left the building IMO. That kind of God would certainly have come up with a better plan than what we see. If the point is that we all have to learn how great He is, He could have done better without all the suffering - He knows what he was setting in motion from the start, He knows the end result, everything else in that paradigm is just sideshow.
Lord, save me from your followers.

Whenever you buy something new, do you take an extended warranty?
by JH ini hardly ever take an extended warranty.
call me cheap, but something new shouldn't break.
and if it does, the 1 year coverage should be enough to make sure i didn't buy a lemon.. many say that companies make their money with additional warranties, and that you're better off not taking it and paying for the repair if ever there is one to be made.. when i see a 27 tv at 250$ compared to 700$ 10 years ago, i won't pay for an additional warranty.

Not for items under $200, but for pricier things, I often have. The fun part recently was placing a call on a fancy built-in microwave/xenon oven - the conventional light bulb had gone out and was NOT a consumer replaceable part. "Sir, you purchased that item more than a year ago." "Yeah, I know - that's why I said I'm calling you about my EXTENDED warranty coverage." "Sir, are you sure your oven ever had a light bulb in it?" Oh, laughs for the whole family...
But in general, I've rarely used the extended warranties I've had.
EDIT: Oh, the exception would be a pickup we bought, 2 years old from a dealer and insisted they throw in an extended warranty for the price we settled on - that's been a good investment on little electrical things like power window switches and the like.

Lengthening the "Conclusion of this system of things."
by Cynisister inhello, i'm new, and for the present must put on the appearance of a loyal witness for the sake of family, but by patience is wearing quite thin these days.
more about me at another time.. has anyone noticed that the wts has once again changed the meaning of "generation" in the newest watchtower (feb. 15, '08 issue)?
they are connecting it in a weird way to the brothers of joseph.

Questioning the question of God's existence
by DT ini don't know if there is a god.
if i knew for certain, this piece of knowledge could serve as a foundation for my world view.
some people are confident they know the answer (both theists and atheists) and their world view is based on this faith.

We know for a fact that Santa Claus is an entirely fictional character and does not exist.
I think there is enough evidence out there that there may have indeed been an "historic Santa Claws". It is likely a stronger case than that for the "historic Dracula" (e.g., Vlad the Impaler) - not that Vlad didn't exist, but rather questioning whether Vlad was an inspiration for Dracula or just an historic figure that mirrors aspects of Dracula. See St Nicholas of Myra, if nothing else.
SickofLies and Gopher - as always, calm, collected and helpful!

I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO GROW UP IN THIS "SYSTEM"
by rache31 inoh, how many of us heard that we wouldn't make it to graduation or get married in this system?
i thought i wouldn't grow up.
no one talked about preparing for the future.

Anger and laughing (see OP) both seem appropriate responses to this ludicrous situation - like an old boss of mine used to say, You're either laughing or you're crying! I think I'd rather laugh...
Why do people so blindly follow? Are they missing something in their lives?
Yes, sadly. One of the most reported reasons of seeking therapy is to work on "an emptiness inside". Many
cultsinstitutions seek to fill that with something. Sadly, what the JWs offer is often false, and can't stand the stress of time without a good dose of desperation.
