Would you save your life ? or die for your religion?
by LadyxNova inim non- jehovan witness, i am athiest/christian.
im 15.. i just want to ask why would people die for a belief instead of saving a life.
a life is much more sacred then a religion.. life is everything, it gives you good and bad choices etc.. the blood transfusion, i was reading couple of articles on how jehovahs witness people actually would die for a belief.. it really got me mad.

Welcome.
Sadly, there are a lot of JWs in a kind of trance. They've been taught that it's sacred to kill your children for God, such as Abraham was asked to do to Isaac. Maybe some of them even think that, like in that Bible story, an angel will come to tell them the killing's been 86ed.
Kinda sick, really.
But then this is also part and parcel of the WTS mindset against really being connected to anyone or anything on Earth - the world is full of sin and error, nothing is worth saving, only following the rules of the WTS is important.
Once you believe that, any manner of evil is possible in a krazy kult.

Conversion Went Badly
by VoidEater inmy aunt's father, a formerly life-long adherent to the apostolic church, became a witness last year.. i just learned he went to the last assembly and died.
tripped and hit his head on an armrest.. i'm waiting for the next round of email that talks about jehovah protecting his people with guardian angels.
maybe he missed the memo that this guy was entitled to divine intervention..

Thanks again, all -
Dinah, yes freaky...
Zoiks, yeah, everyone is handling well...
W.Once, oh, wow, hadn't thought of that nuance, that does give the JW family something to hold on to, I guess!

How's this for a disassociation letter?:
by SixofNine insix- paul haggis is the director of the movie crash, among others; this letter was motivated by the church's action (and/or lack thereof) wrt california proposition 8.. .
paul haggis belonged to the church of scientology for 35 years, so this very public break, written in a letter directerd at scientology's current national spokesman, tommy davis, was published by ex-scientologist marty rathbun.

Eek!
Wish I could get my dad to read C of C - an insider's look at WTS. But of course the WTS is also really good at misdirection and martyrdom, and no good witness will ever pick it up.
Great letter...

"Blinded by Satan"
by Sour Grapes inthe brother who gave the public talk on sunday said.
that people who are not jehovah's witnesses are.
blinded by satan.

Well, that is one of the advantages to belonging to a Special Club - clapping yourself on the back and extolling the failings of everyone else.
...and I have yet to see a single person "fall away" from Christmas music! Just think of all the radio stations Satan is using to blast the airwaves this year.
I wonder...will Christmas decorations burn the love of Jehovah out of you through your eyes?

Is it worth upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7?
by nicolaou ini'm running vista home premium on my dell inspiron.
dell custom build to your requirements and i went for 4gb of ram from the start (almost 2 years ago).
i know vista has been much maligned but honestly, i've had no problems with it.

Anything that gets you out of Vista is worth it...IMHO.
I use a variety of machines, some old, some new, I stick mostly to Mac OS X as my client (10.6). I also occasionally go to 10.4 and Win 98 for some specialty apps.
My home server is Windows, that's what was cheapest to build at the time, it's fine as long as I don't have to use it as a client.
My work life is XP (we rejected Vista, I think it was an auto-immune response).
If you have hardware that supports Vista, it will support 7; you'll see some better performance, better stability, generally better behavior. If the money is available, I'd do it in a flash.

How long did it take before you started talking to others about being an ex-dub?
by the real life ini was just wondering if any of you took time to speak openly about being an ex-witness.. sometimes, when it came up naturally, i told some of my friends; in other cases, i felt really uncomfortable talking about it.
in fact, it's a little strange, but i felt more comfortable telling casual friends rather than the people closest to me.
i often felt like it was a huge revelation to make, often to find that people weren't really that shocked.

I didn't want to be an outcast among those still in, nor a fanatic to those out - so oI just kinda didn't talk to anyone in nor mention it to anyone out.
Looking back, I see it's taken me about 3 years for it to come up in conversation with those I meet. It's kinda like admitting I was born on Mars or something, not the kind of thing you talk about, for some reason.

Yes, true story.
I don't mean to make light of the guy's passing on, but it does show a certain irony when others talk about angelic protection.
Thanks, Priest - have to admit, I always found him a little creepy, I wasn't close to him. The Apostolic side of the family made the JW side of the family look pretty free-wheeling and carefree, by comparison. But my caution around him was more along the lines of "funny-strange" rather than "funny-ha ha".
