What is truth? Discussion with my mother
by Soldier77 ini asked this question to my mother and her husband the other night in a heated debate about the falsehood that the wbts is teaching its members.
i reasoned that their teachings are a contradiction and how can one live their life in truth, in honesty, without deceit or lies if they accept contradiction within ones faith?.
so again i asked them, "what is truth?

Amazing they admitted that they get what you're saying. That suggests they have their own doubts. Suggest gentle but persistent pressure.
Understandable they still think they have to "go somewhere" - that's the kult mind, thinking they need to be part of that kind of herd. They may be too old ot break that hypnotic mindset. They don't have to "go" anywhere, they need to grow up and be whole within themselves (if one insist, let's say they need a *personal* relationship with Jehovah, not one depending on an organization).

has anyone looked into Buddhism?
by poor places ini've started reading a book called the modern buddhist's bible and i'm liking a lot of things about the religion so far.
of course i don't know much yet, but there seem to be some very good points to buddhism.
one thing i love is the emphasis on "killing" the ego (or whatever you might want to call what buddhists try to do with their egos!).

leaving: ;-)
My thoughts seem closest to Zen Buddhism, if a label is needed.
I find various facets of the practice of compassion very useful. Life has worked better for me when ego is placed in a greater context. Since meditating (1992) I have found a place of calm and "felt sense" that has served me well.
Reincarnation? As part of a mystical belief set, it doesn't seem important to me - karma, like "serving God out of fear", seems a finger pointing rather than what the finger is pointing to - being conscious to this moment is enough for me.

A World Suddenly Teeming with Believers!
by wannabe ina world suddenly teeming with believers!.
i'm wondering if it's for the following, prophecies that the majority of this world have no respect for the god of the bible?
try telling him at this time when it occurs that you have your own beliefs, and don't care to listen to what he has to say to you.

So What's Up With All The Anger?
by mind blown ini'm fairly new to this board.
since i'm currently having to deal with a stressful situation, i was interested in this site (friends in common and info).
when i first posted, i hadn't introduced myself (just didn't think it was important), however, my first post was met with some serious hateful "personal" attacks by few on a subject which i was just asking a question regarding the mayan calendar....... i now see there's more personal attacks on other posters.

I am less strategic in expressing my likes and dislikes, not worying so much about what I am "supposed" to like, who I am "supposed" to dislike. I am more honest about my feelings.

There are about 7,000,000,000 versions of "truth" right now...
Religion is always a divider when you get above a certain number.

When was the last time somebody proved you wrong and you admitted it?
by Terry inintellectual honesty and personal integrity depend on a fine point.
can you accept being wrong and admit it?.
nobody wants to be wrong because we have to trust your view of things to survive and prosper.

I'd rather be happy than be right. Everything I "know" is subject to review - I realize I have preferences and opinions, and these (like all mental artifacts) are ephemeral.

I'm biased, I've known since I was 5 that I would be married someday, but to another guy.
I did inherit a bit of self-loathing, but understanding how it was programmed in has helped in deprogramming.
